Once in a Blue Moon ... is a common way of saying not very often, but what exactly is a Blue Moon? In modern folklore, a Blue Moon is the second Full Moon in one calendar month, and this happens every two years—so we are blessed to have one occurring this May 31st for all those living in North America !! According to Greenwich Mean Time, which is 0 degrees longitude and falls in Greenwich , England , the Blue Moon occurs early in the morning of June 1st, and for them, the month of the Blue Moon will be June, as the next Full Moon falls on June 30th, making June their "Blue Moon" month.
Some of the lore associated with the Blue Moon is: do something strange, something you have never done before. Write letters to folks you have not seen for years, plan a surprise for someone you love. Howl at the Moon!
For Witches today, the Blue Moon is a time of magic and mystery. On the night of a Blue Moon, the magical energy is very powerful and enduring. Spells cast during a Blue Moon are said to hold until the next Blue Moon. That is quite awhile at about 2.5 years!! This is a fantastic time to work for love, protection, prosperity, wisdom, or any kind of divination. Selene is the Greco-Roman patron Goddess for all witches at this time. We will be doing a short spell for everyone of the Temple for the prosperity of each of us participating. This will hopefully last until the next Blue Moon, which is December 30, 2009 !! We hope you can all take advantage of the wondrous, Magickal and blessed time!!
