~Von and Elora~

Initial Post From: ladielina2
Despite the lines her thoughts were taking, her new master proved to have none of the afflictions she feared. Then seeming to examine her quickly with his eyes, he says "Time to go." He gestures for her to enter the carriage before him.

Very brief synopsis: Elora is transported from the auction block to her new master's desert abode, to be greeted by the strong fragrances of desert flowers, and a short woman, whom she learns is called Cass. Von leaves her in the care of this woman, who is to show Elora the ropes, and guide her to the slave quaters. Elora's eyes drink in the amazing beauty of the household, and explains to Cass that she has a little experience in serving, having worked in a city bar before training as a temple priestess. She is shown to her room, and notes how it reminds her of some, desert harem. Cass leaves her to bathe and change into a blue garment. Then she returns soon afterwards, to give Elora her first task : serving Von and his guest dinner.

Guided through the various corridors and kitchens, Cass explains that Von must drink from the white pitcher, and Oron from the black. A simple thing to remember, or so Elora thought. As she enters to dinning hall, she finds Von discussing business matters with his guest, a podgey man called Oron, whom she was warned could not hold his drink well. After serving dinner, Elora accidently serves Oron's drink from the wrong pitcher, and discovers that Von can speak to her through her thoughts, as he partially scolds her. It is soon after, that Oron over-indulges, and the following events unfold:

At the sight of Oron's pudgey fingers reaching out to suddenly grip her arm, Elora inhaled a sharp breath. The way he suddenly tugged her, unsettled her balance so that the wine within the pitcher she currently held spilt over the top slightly. Though the man's voice was angry, Elora seemed to be currently more concerned about the spillage of the floor, and hoped that the red liquid wouldn't stain it. Though she disliked the way he labelled her a wench; seeing as no man had taken her, and she liked to keep it that way in honour of the goddess Hestia. Narrowing her cold and icey blue eyes at the piggish man, Elora didn't struggle within his tight grip, since she knew that would only provoke him further. Even as he yanked her arm once more, forcing her lower body to arch, to that her eyes were level with his own. She could hardly bare to look into his ugly orbs, ugly being because his inner personality right now, was not something she would like to be around. Hence she swallowed hard, trying not to let his hateful words harm her. But his comment about her bedding any man was the last straw. Not only was he insulting her, but he disgusting her with the foul stench of his drunken breath.

"You, sir, are not my master." Her tone cold, she refused to wait for any signals from Von, instead acting on her own impulses, as she tried to wrench her arm free. Her skin seemed to drain in warmth, her ice magic cooling her blood so she was cold to the touch. "Unhand me at once! Foul creature, how dare you insult me!" What he didn't realise that, this woman dressed so princess like,...really was a princess. Though she had lived a life of poverty, the royal attitude ran through her blood, as thick as ever. She would not stand around to be insulted by such a pathetic mortal.

From: ladielina2

Von had expected Oron to pull something of the like as he slowly became more and more intoxicated, which was encouraged by the fortified wine in the pitcher he was being given. It wasn't exactly a rare occurance. It was always easier to get useful information from the otherwise useless man when he wasn't thinking straight. Unfortunatly, it also made him very unpleasent.

He had been a little surprised when Cass sent in Elora to serve them, and her current actions proved that he had been right to think her unsuited to the task. Any of his more experienced servants would have simply agreed with him or brushed him off completely, instead of challenging him like Elora was now doing.

He wasn't in the least surprised by her magic, after all it was only natural, but what did surprised him was the instinctive way she used it. As if she wasn't even thinking about it. He hoped he was mistaken in what he was thinking, but he had had more then enough children and dangerous slaves to know the signs of untrained magic. He would have to find out soon, if just for the safety of everyone else who was under his care.

"You disrespect me wench." Oron said in drunken slur, to out of it to even realize the danger he was in. Her arm pulled easily from his grasp and his arm fell down, almost as if his hold on her arm had been the only thing holding it up.

"Elora!" Von snapped loudly to get her attention, though there didn't seem to be any real displeasure in his voice, "Take the dishes and go. I will speak with you later." sitting back in his chair.

The twinkle she saw in Von's eyes wasn't so much alarming as she might've thought before, but it still made her feel slightly uncomfortable around him. Men were dangerous, that was something she had been told by her fellow priestesses. But Von seemed so casual about his offers, and she was now more astonished by the ball of light in which he created. Gaping at the voice whispering in her mind, course it wasn't the first time he had done such a thing, but she was still not quite used to the mental invasion. More alike and yet more different? Talk about an oxymoron, she was still staring at the light orb though. Until, his more scornful voice caught her attention, frowning eyes flickering back to him.

"You dislike humans, m'lord?" She assumed simply by his tone and choice of words, and naturally, she was intrigued as to the source of his hatred. And it seemed to outweigh her curiousity in regards to the orb of light. "May I ask why? The old hedgewitch who raised me, was kind to me. I would prefer it if you did not insult her, please." And then, feeling as if she needed to expand to back up her reasoning, Elora paused only briefly, to continue. "You see, my life has been threatened, by demonic beings and those of celestial natures. I do not hate them all though. Like I do not blame all humans for Oron's, well, foolishness." Blue eyes looked down, "forgive me if I over-stepped my boundaries."
From: ladielina2

With a soft laugh, "I don't hate them." he says matter-of-fact, snuffing out the ball in his hand. "And I ment no disrespect toward the dead. I have simply found them to be innoying creatures that tend to cause more problems then they solve." explaining simply. He couldn't hate them, they ment too little for him to hate them, indifference was more the word. His ancesters had felt so inferior as humans, that they had mated with other creatures to spare their children there weakness.

"Now, what have you done, that those from both sides of the spectrum wish to end your life?" he asks. He had not missed her comment about being hunted and now he was intriged. What could this seemingly innocent woman have done to incure the wrath of creature's who would want her dead.
From: Ruby_Temptress

Eyes lowered at her own misinterpretation, Elora muttered a soft and simple "oh" as she was corrected. Fumbling the material of her dress with her fingertips. The problem was, there was truth in his words, and she of all people knew it. War mongers in particular, she hated the soldiers that wrecked havoc on the temple of paradise she'd so happilly resided in. Her teeth grit together, the sounds of chaos and war cries filling her mind. Memories of the day she'd escaped one slaver, only to give herself up to another. The sight of blood tainting the temple step, the sacred fires snuffing out, and the treasuries being raided. Then her saddened eyes looked to Von, his question invoking other memories, and ones she had hoped to forget.

"Ss-simply by, living." And that was the strange part about it, she didn't expect him to understand since neither did she. "Angel mother, demon father. I, guess I'm, some sort of, walking sin. Some, disgusting creature that was, never meant to be." When had she started crying? Or was it just one single tear? Elora hadn't shed one in so long, simply because she refused to succumb to such self-pity. But perhaps it was the toils of the day, and now the invoking of bitter memories and facts, that caused the crystal tear to roll down her cheek. She tensed her shoulders, feeling the sting of her sinuses as she held further tears back.

"I suppose being the last of those who ignored the war between celestials and demons, the enemies of my parents, my real parents that is, wish to end the chain for good." Speaking in a tone as if it didn't matter to her, Elora quickly attempting to change the subject none the less. "That orb of light, I...I've seen it somewhere before. But I thought, only celestial blood could create such a holy thing?"
From: ladielina2

He didn't need his power to see what was happening as she relived old memories, he had seen it many times before. One of those times being with his own twin sister, so he had had the displeasure of reliving it with her. He wasn't quite sure what to do, woman tended to react in very different whys to things, and he didn't know her well enough to accuretly judge what the right response should be.  But he did step nearer, though not close enough that she would feel he was invading her space.

Listening to her story, he couldn't say he hadn't heard of such things, fractions in the celestial and demon ranks that felt a blending of the two sides was something that couldn't be allowed. He had had to kill more then one such creature in his life time, so had most of his family. They were perhaps the top targets for some groups. The only reason it didn't happen more often was because his clan was numerous and powerful, making them a hard and dangerous target to deal with. Feeling sympathy for her, he brushed his hand lightly on her cheek wiping away the tear, though he would normally have tried to do more to comfort her, he felt that was about as much as he was going to get away with.

Allowing the change in conversation so she could get over the effect her recent confesions had had on her,"There are others who can do things like that, but yes, it's possible my ability stems from my divine blood." he answers softly, not knowing how that information would effect her.

Blinking with a further lack of assurity, Elora lightly frowns at Von's clear amusement, and at her own curiousity towards his response. Divine ancestory, and other things? He sounded complicated, and her mind wasn't clear enough to delve any deeper. As he turned therefore, she finally released the yawn shed been fighting back, only to snap her jaw shut the moment he looked back.

"I suppose you're going to tell me to get some sleep if I pry anymore?" She quieried, following obediently the moment he was stepping away from her. Well, actually she hesitated at first, breathing in the fresh outdoor fragrances for a moment. Then, realising he was walking farther away, she hurried to follow. She didn't expect him to answer her every question, it wouldn't be proper for her to delve into his history and bloodline afterall. She was just a slave, some, priestess infact. Which reminded her...

"Oh, I was told there was a room where I could, pray? May I, go there?"

From: ladielina2

"You do need some sleep." he says, it was clear to anyone that she needed it. Even if she was trying to hide it, and her presence was making him tired, for all it was still a few hours until he usually went to sleep. Living where they did. most activity around the palace happend in the earily morning and at night, with very few exceptions.

Though he wouldn't have cared if she had asked about his history, he doudted she would have believed him. She hadn't lived long enough to beleive the things he had seen in his long lifetime.

Looking back at her question, while continuing his journey down the hall, "If you want?" though it was clear he didn't understand why she would want to do that now.

Leading her down a series of corridors, it slowly got darker as fewer lights lit the hall. The coat of dust that seemed to cover everything made it clear this was an infrequently used part of the palace though it was well maintained. Turning a corner, the hall they now entered could hardly be called that, as archways lined both sides of the corridor, spaced out every few feet or so. Leading her thru it, each archway had a name carved into the stone above them, and were bordered with detailed stone work that even an expert mason would have had to take a life time to finish.

"I'll begin soon enough." he answers bluntly in refrence to her training, "Most activity takes place in the early morning and late evening. Mid day is your's to spend as you please. You'll figure out why soon enough. Cass will be in charge of giving you any duties, though my orders come before her's."

Stopping in front of one of the archways, bordered by sencees of women at varies domestic chores and adove was the name Hestia, framed by flames coming out of a hearth craved into the frame just above the arch. The archway appearently lead outside with a cobble path leading to a stone structure some 20 feet away. Following the path to the structure, the front was constructed of nothing but colomes, and the other three sides solid walls. Walking inside, at the back was a large statute of Hestia, and in front of it was a hearth lit by magic fire that was blue in color. It seemed a proper temple though puny in scale when compared to the one Elora had lived in and by all appearences the were no attendents to this temple.

From: Ruby_Temptress

Her clear blue eyes adjusted with the change of brightness, dimming to a dull darkness around her. The dust immediately agitated her nose, causing Elora to sneeze twice consequtively as a natural reaction. The sound seemed to echo, as if they had entered some sort of labrynth or catacomb area. She could tell hardly anyone used this corridor thanks to the mass dust amounts. Perhaps she might offer to clean it...but it would take her a long long time to remove the ancient grime. She decided if the temple area was dirty, she would strive to clean it, but the corridors were none of her concern.

Following ever obediently, Elora listened to Von's instructions, nodding and making mental notes. Then as he stopped, so did she, to inspect the doorway and smile. Yes, remenants of Hestial, shown by the sacred blue flames and the domestic roles of women. She felt at home and a sense of peace, and that was before even entering the 'temple.' She walked through the archway, a little suprised to see that the worship structure was situated outside down another path...Better than nothing though, she supposed. The cobbles could be felt against the soles of her feet, digging in through the thin shoe soles. It didn't bother her though; she just wanted to reach the temple and say her nightly prayers. Perhaps she might remain in silent prayer, until sunrise, to repent for her sins.

The temple itself was alike to the one she has resided in, though indeed, not nearly as big. There and then, as her gaze met with the statue of Hestia, a smile lit her face. Elora decided she would be the vestal priestess of the sacred flame again, here. Afterall, there was no one else to do it. No doubt she would be spending whatever free time she had, right here. "It's wonderful," she commented, though her gaze was fixed on the idol. Instantly, her knees lowered to the stone floor, and her back arched upwards in ceremonial prayer. Her upper body leant forwards to the ground, her arms sweeping up, fingers spread, to circle gracefully to face the statue, and then rest against the floor. Total submission to all that is holy and just, such a position might start to ache after awhile, but Elora could remain there for as long as she desired.
From: ladielina2

Leaning against one of the columes in front of the entry way, Von watched as she examined the temple, not daring to enter himself. Ancient sanctions dictated that he and his were forbidden to enter the sacred space of any god or goddess. Granted Hestia was more forgiving then most, but he wasn't about to be the one to break a sacred oath on a whim. It was a fruit of the tree type thing. He was requiered to keep an alter to each of the gods, but was forbidden to enter any of them. A temptation he easily avoided.

Looking around, he hadn't been near any of them since there construction which was well, a long time ago. Statues of celestial beings were arranged thru out the structure. Stone picture carvings were on the walls, lit up by the blue flames from the fire.

Watching her display, he was fasinated. So much...piety, he supposed. Not feeling the desire to say anything, he just stood there and watched. If he wanted he could stand there all night.

Remaining in her position of solitary prayer, Elora was aware her mysterious desert master was keeping some, watchful eye over her. Though she supposed he might leave after a few moments of the uncomfortable silence, it begun to grate on her nerves when, his presence didn't falter moments later. On the contrary, while she strived to be chaste and obsolete in thought, his presence there was just, irking her. Distracting even though, he wasn't really anywhere near her. Why was that though? Why did he not venture a step forth into the chapel area? She shifted slightly in her bent over position, her forehead touching the cold stone below her. Curiousity was irritating her, he was irritating her. Was she not allowed a space of her own, to be alone? She did not approve of the chambers of those, wanton servants. Now, this place she did approve of, was not her own. She felt trapt, claustrophobic. True she had never really had a real place of her own but, at least she would share her surroundings with people of a like-minded view.

"Is there a reason why you linger so?" Elora rose suddenly, to sit up on her knees. Her question rather pompous, but she did not turn to face Von. "Rather than standing there like some, spare rib,...well, why don't you, join me?" Well, she'd rather he 'buggered off' to be frank, but at least if he was praying too, he would be out of her way. "Have you ever stayed vigil before?" She shifted on her knees slightly, getting into a comfy position again, before resting her hands on her lap, and lowering her head slightly to the goddess statue. Her icy voice with it's cold tone, booming slightly within the temple. She recalled he might've said something about, not bothering with religions and faith. From the condition of the passageway to the temples, she could easilly beleive that. So then, what was his sudden fascination?

A tilt of his head gave him a strangely predatory, yet seemingly innocent appearence. With his crooked smile "I am forebidden. Were I to enter, for all I know Osiris himself would strike me dead. Though the rules are somewhat unclear on that part."

Anticipating what she would be wondering, "Mine broke with the gods millenias ago. In the ancient pact that was formed, it dictates that we do not pray to them and we are forbidden to enter their sacred grounds. They are almost non-existant. And in exchange we are denied there kindness, and free of there anger. Our fates are our own to decide. In short... we are free." with a soft smile, his voice sounding almost happy, and amused. Clearly he had long since made peace with the fact. With a grin "So it's odvious that I have never stood vigil."

Moving on as if the matter was of little importance, "As to my reason's, I find it interesting. You're kneeling there, praying for forgiveness that will never come, from the goddess that abandoned you. Left you to the mercy of those who put a leash around your neck and then put you on stage to sell you off like cattle. It's, odd." confusion and wonderment coloring his voice.

She did not look at him and yet, Elora could tell his words were held with a tone of amusement layered beneath. Did he take anything seriously? She wondered, but closed her eyes, clenching her jaw in defiance to his speech. She had never read of such a pact; the scriptures failed to mention yet, she supposed such minor, petty feuds weren't worthy of the ancient scrolls. Free? She beleived it was impossible to be free of the hands of fate...what of destiny and guidance? But, she had never dared to think of such blasphemous thoughts. If only the head Priestess could hear her now...most likely five lashings for talking to man, and another five for talking to a man of no faith. Elora shuddered at the thought.

"You, only think it odd be-because, you.....you lack faith!" She retorted quickly as if, she was enduring some verbal battle. "The Gods gave me a choice. It was to die in hopeless sorrow, or to make amends, and start anew. I beleive I chose correctly...and the fates directed me here." She clenched her jaw again, as if to silence herself before she spoke too highly of him or his home. But she felt so strongly about her words that, it just wouldn't do to hold in her explanation. Or maybe she just wanted a chance to fight in a way that would vent her anger...

"Destiny urged you to purchase me, nothing else. You may laugh all you like, but for some reason, the Gods wanted me to come here." It did hurt though since, what he said did hold some truth. Her mind was filled with the memories of the block, how she felt like some, piece of meat, to be leered at and examined. Elora had never felt so...worthless, in all her life. It was not an experience she would wish to feel again. "Since I don't know what that reason is," she swallowed hard, trying to avert her thoughts. "I will pray for guidance."

"My own desire brought you here, nothing more. And if it was the gods, then it is only because they have foresaken you." matter-of-fact.

"You have been given a chance that many would die for. You have the chance to see the world thru your own eyes, and to make what you will of it without something looking over your shoulder telling you what you should think or feel. To make your own destiny. Try walking in my world, you may find it to your liking." He wasn't laughing now. Looking at her back, his face seemed to hold a glint of hope, but just as quickly as it came, it was gone.

In all seriousness, "If a reason is what you need, by all means look for it. I suppose some need more out of life then simply living. But don't expect to get it from this place of cold stone and dying echos." he warns not unkindly. Taking a step back, he starts to turn as if to leave.
