CANDLE CHANT
When you are ready to light the candle, chant something like:

Candle of power, candle of might,
Create my desires here on this night.
Power, stream from this candle's fire.
Bring to me my heart's desire.
My words have strength, the victory's won.
So say I, this spell is done.
*********************************************************************************
LIGHTING, EXTINGUISHING AND DISPOSAL
Light all candles with a lighter or another candle. Never use matches, as the sulphur will disrupt magickal workings.
To extinguish a candle, use a candle snuffer, or wave your hand over the top of the candle to create enough draft to extinguish it.
If you plan to use it again, store it carefully. If the spell calls for a virgin candle, bury it off of your property for spells involving the movement of things away from you and on the property if you wish to draw something toward you.
Keep candle drippings from all rituals, except those where you are repelling. You can add drippings to healing pouches (if the spell was for healing). Remelt them on a talisman consecrated and empowered during the same ritual, or keep them simply in the bottom of a purse or coat pocket for good luck, fertility, romance and fortune.

*******************************************************************************
CANDLES AND SYMPATHETIC MAGIC
When candles are molded into shapes, it is called sympathetic magic.
To assist in finding a familiar, burn a candle in the shape of the animal you desire
Fertility spells can be cast with a phallus-shaped candle. Healing uses human-shaped candles or skull candles. White ones are for healing, black ones for reversing spells and warding off negativity.
Another type of candle magic uses pins. Stick a pin in as close to the top as you can without breaking the wax.
As you insert it, say:
When this candle burns to the pin,
The process of (name the desire) will begin.
Insert a secont pin close to the first and say:
When this candles burns to this pin
The process of (name the desire) will come to a successful completion and end.
You can use birthday candles or very small candles for a spell that needs to be done quickly. You can also put drops of colored oil or food coloring into small tealite candles which also burn quickly.

Depending on your goal, you will need to choose a candle color that is appropriate for your task.
Different colors represent different things, for example, if you want to use this spell to gain money,
you choose a green candle, because green represents money (as well as other things).
If you wanted love, you would use a pink candle (or red if it's actually lust you want).
Take the candle and make 7 notches in it, all equally apart.
Using virgin olive oil, dress the candle, rubbing the oil on it from the middle to the bottom,
then the middle to the top.
Place the candle in a sturdy candle holder (preferably metal, glass may shatter) and light the candle.
Concentrate on your task while the candle burns down to the first notch.
Burn the candle each night to the next notch until it has completely burned out.
Look at any god correspondence chart on a wiccan website to see which color you
want for the different types of spells you could adapt the above basic one to.
You can also write out what you want in rhyme and burn it after saying it like an incantation.
3x3 times works well. Keep any ashes and wax and make into a ball as a Talisman or keep in
a spell box in case you wish to reverse the spell.
CANDLE RITUALS
Candle rituals have been around for centuries.
You light the candles, maybe close your eyes while repeating a spell or that which you
wish for and visualizing it coming true.
It is a combination of the need or desire, and the ability to visualize the outcome.
Candle burning spells and rituals are very easy to do and to have success with if they are
done correctly and you truly believe. The different colors of candles each have their own symbolism.
Here is a table of the colors and their meanings.
White: truth, purity
Red: love, health, sex, strength
Green: money, luck, fertility
Black: discord, evil, negativity, confusion
Brown: neutrality, uncertainty, hesitation
Pink: love, morality, honor
Purple: power, business progress, ambition
Orange: attraction, stimulation
Greenish Yellow: jealousy, anger, discord
Gray: neutrality, stalemate, negativity
Light Blue: tranquility, patience, health
Dark Blue: depression, changeability
Candle spells can be very easy or complicated.
It all depends on how much time you want to put into a ritual.
It can be as simple as lighting a green candle and chanting... money money come to me.
It can also be very long and complicated lasting several days with the repositioning of
the candles each day. The choice is always yours.
The first thing you want to do is get the appropriate color candles for your particular desire.
Then you need to anoint the candle with oil. Olive oil will do fine.
You need to rub the candle with the oil from the middle outward to the ends.
As you are doing this you need to be thinking of your desired goal.
Then sit and meditate on your desire after lighting the candles, then read your spell
or chant your appropriate mantra.
You don't need some elaborate spell with a bunch of big words or words you don't
even know how to pronounce. You can make your own spells or rituals.
Think of your desire then make a simple little rhyme that tells about your desire in it.
It doesn't even have to rhyme. This is all about will power, the power of positive thinking,
and creative visualization. If you can do these things then you will send those vibrations out
into the universe and eventually they will materialize.

FRIENDSHIP CANDLE SPELL
Pink Candle Good Luck/Friendship Oil Pink silk Ribbon White Silk Ribbon
Cast the Circle, Arrange altar, Invoke Goddess and God
You will want to anoint the pink with Good Luck oil all the while thinking of the friends you want to make.
Imagine yourself laughing with them, going out with them. Really see yourself with them.
After your candle has been anointed, you may light it. At this point you may call out the things that
are important to you in a friend: honesty, trust, open mindedness, humor, whatever.
As you light the candle, see the flame as being the energy that burns between any two close friends.
When this is completed, take your two pieces of silk ribbon and weave them together.
Simply winding them around each other will do.
While you do this, think of bringing that friend closer to you.
This binding process is reminiscent of pagan handfasting rituals.
You are binding that friend to you, making them loyal to you, a way any good friend should be.
You do not want to bind a specific person to you, as that kind of magic is harmful since is
harms the other person's free will. Only bind the idea of the perfect friend to you.
Once you have done this, tie the ribbon to the base of your candle as best as you can.
The candle's light is a beacon to bring friendship to you and another person.
When this is done, you may wish to sit and meditate on the spell that you have just cast,
sending your energies out to bring that perfect friend to you. When you feel that your spell has
been completed, then it has. Let your candle burn all the way out and release your circle,
thanking the Goddess and the God.
LOVE SPELL
Light a candle (I tend to use a blessed white tea candle) and place it by the window sill at night.
This is you calling out to your love.
CAST A WITCH'S LUCKY CANDLE SPELL
take an orange candle anointed with cinnamon oil, clove, or lotus oil.
Light the candle and say 3 times:
"brimstone, moon, and witch's fire,
candlelights bright spell,
good luck shall I now acquire,
work thy magic well.
Midnight twelve, the witching hour,
bring the luck I seek.
By wax and wick now work thy power
as these words I speak.
Harming none, this spell is done.
By law of three, so mote it be!"
Do this spell at midnight.
CANDLE SPELL TO STOP HARASSMENT
Timing: During the waning moon. Use a brown candle (an image candle, if you can)
to represent the person who is harassing you.
Write the person's name on the front and back of the candle.
On a small piece of parchment paper, write:
'From now on, (name) will say nothing but sweet words about me and to me.
By the power of Aradia, so mote it be!'
Put a drop of honey in the middle of the paper and roll it into a ball.
Heat a knife, pin or your athame, make a gash in the candle (in its mouth, if it's an image candle)
and stuff the paper ball into it.
Let the candle burn a little while every night for an odd number of nights, to a maximum
of nine nights. Throw the remnants into flowing water, but save some candle drippings
or ash to sprinkle in the path of your oppressor.
WHITE CANDLE SPELL FOR BLESSING
Get a white candle -- either a plain one (offertory, pillar, or taper) or a figural one in the
gender of the person you want to bless. Carve the person's full name on the candle,
then dress it with Blessing Oil or Holy Oil. For more power, you may place a name-paper
of the person, or a photo, or some personal item of theirs (such as a bit of hair or a snippet
of clothing) either under the candle or next to it. One easy way to do this is to place the
paper or personal concerns under an overturned saucer and put the candle on top of the
saucer. Burn a portion of the candle every day for seven days, pinching it out between burnings.
As you light it each day, say this
[Name], may you be blessed
May all good things come to you
May nothing whatsoever harm you
May your heart be light
May your travels be safe
May your health be good
May your mind be sound
May your friendships sustain you
May you be blessed in every way
If you have a special request for this person (such as that they find a lover, get a
good job, come home safely from a war, or whatever), just add it to the list.
Some people use a large pillar-type candle and keep it going for longer than seven days.
They may make a habit of burning such a candle every day -- or once a week, on Sundays --
for as long as their friend or relative needs help, even doing so for months at a time.
If the candle is large and it is to be burned in this way, it should be re-dressed with
Blessing Oil or Holy Oil once a week: after the initial dressing, you can drop a tiny bit of
oil into the "well" or hole in such a large candle just before lighting it each time.
A CANDLE BINDING
Get a large white candle, the kind that drips wax, and set it up on a tray.
Affix to it a photograph or other image of the person you wish to bind.
Make a ring of sea salt around it. Make a second ring with protective herbs.
Some dried rosemary from the kitchen will not break your bank. Or use sage if you like.
Fill the rest of the tray with images that represent what you are binding the person from: pictures
of your family, keys to your house, legal documents, whatever.
If the problem is too complex for images, write what the person is bound from on slips of
paper and place them around the candle. Maybe they are gossiping and making your life
a misery. Write it down and explain what you want stopped.
Papyrus, or good thick paper made from cotton or linen work best for this.
I have pinched the first blank page of old books at sales!
Use red ink if you are angry, purple ink if you are sad.
Wrap the candle and the image with black thread (use cotton tread or linen or even wool, if possible).
Invoke Isis and "Linda the Binder With Linen Thread."
Say out loud what you are Binding the person from.
Light the candle and leave it burn until the wax begins to drip over the thread and image.
Burn it every day for a week, until the image is thick with wax.
Use this as a meditation device to direct your will to Binding the person.
You will have direct results if you have a just reason for this spell.
You can also Bind a person from harming themselves.
TO REVERSE SPELLS CAST WITH CANDLE MAGICK
Light two black candles and chant:
In the name of the Gods and all ye Spirits
In the name of Kernunnos and the light and the dark
And the Gods of the Netherworld
And whosoever shall be casting a curse against me
Let them suffer their own curse
Let these candles be their candles
This burning be their burning
This curse be their curse
Let the pain they have caused me and mine
Fall upon themselves
Do this spell for five consecutive nights (as close to midnight as possible) and each night
chant the spell until the candles are spent.
BASIC CANDLE SPELL
This type of candle magic is very basic, yet quite effective.
This is a good time to iterate how closely Karma and ethics are intertwined.
You choose your own color of magic, not once, but each time you practice.
Some traditions believe in Karma as "What you do comes back to you".
Keep in mind that for any magic it is best (though not necessary) to do calling
magick, such as money, love, health, luck or anything that brings
something to you, during the waxing moon (first quarter) to the full moon. Banishing magic,
such as bindings, quitting bad habits, curses or anything pushing energy away should be
done during the waning moon (last quarter) to the new moon. These are optimal times,
but you cannot always base your magick around the moon. Basic candle magic deals
only with two colors, white and black Correspondence tables at good Wiccan sites.
Envision the white candle as the waxing to full moon and the black candle as the
waning to new moon. For any calling purposes, use the white candle.
For any banishing purposes, use the black candle.
(Note: Always use candles that are one solid color throughout.
Scratch some wax off to test this if you are not certain.)
You Will Need:
One white or black candle Candle holder Matches or lighter Olive oil
Basic Candle Magic Spell
Perform STEP ONE, Meditation.
For white candle:
Rub oil from the tip of the candle towards the base, while humming and visualizing your
reason for doing this spell. Continue humming and visualizing for about five minutes.
For black candle:
Rub oil from the base of the candle towards the tip, while humming and visualizing your
reason for doing this spell. Continue humming and visualizing for about five minutes.
Continue for either candle. Place the candle into the holder and light it.
Chant your chant for as long as you can while visualizing your purpose.
To chant, use a monotone humming voice.(You should create a specific chant for your purpose.)
It can be as simple as one word or as complex as you wish.)
(Examples: "Money, money, come to me", "bring love", or "Protection surround me, complete serenity".)
When you cannot chant and visualize any longer, put the candle out and repeat the
spell the following night (or day).
After you see the first glimpse of the results of your spell, let the candle burn all the way out.
Remember, after the completion of any spell or ritual, say: "So mote it be."
CANDLE MAGICK
Depending on your goal, you will need to choose the candle color that is appropriate for your task.
Different colors represent different things, for example, if you want to use this spell to gain money,
you choose a green candle, because green represents money (as well as other things).
If you wanted love, you would use a pink candle (or red if it's actually lust you want).
Take the candle and engrave it from top to bottom with what it is your need, using the
back side of the blade of a dull knife. (Yes, you can use your athame, but a common butter
knife works if you don't have one).
Engrave the first and last initials of the person you want to cast the spell on (your own initials
if it's for yourself) on the bottom of the candle in the same manner.
After you have engraved your candle, rub incense ashes all over the candle.
This means bottom, base, middle, tip, and wick.
If you wish, the ashes of the incense may also correspond with your goal.
Place the candle in a sturdy candle holder (preferably metal, glass may shatter) and light it.
Leave the candle to burn in a safe place. In order for this to work, the candle
must be left to burn all the way down.
(Optional) If you think it would help, sit in front of the candle for a few minutes and
concentrate on your goal. Meditate on it. Before you leave your candle to finish burning,
repeat a few times what it is your wish for the spell to accomplish.
After the candle had burned out, clean the excess wax away from the candle holder,
and throw it away. It should take about 24 hours to start working, depending on the goal.

SPELL TO CHANGE A SITUATION FROM BAD TO GOOD
Burn 7 white candles at 7pm on a Friday evening.
Place another shorter candle into a pot of soil.
After 10 minutes, blow out the white candles in turn and allow the shorter
candle to extinguish itself in the soil.
WITCH'S HEALING CANDLE SPELL
To help speed a recovery from illness, write the sick person's name upon a white human-shaped
candle of the appropriate gender. As you anoint it with three drops of myrrh or mint oil, visualize
healing energy in the form of white light flowing from your hands into the candle and say:
In the divine name of the Goddess
Who breathes life into us all
I consecrate and charge this candle
As a magical tool for healing.
Place the candle on top of a photograph of the sick person and then light the wick.
As the candle burns down, concentrate upon the person in the photograph, willing him
or her to be well again, and chant the following incantation:
Magick mend and candle burn,
Sickness end; good health return.
REVERSING A CANDLE SPELL
Do this 5 nights in a row, at dusk - as the sun dies and darkness descends.
Light 2 Black candles and as they burn, speak this invocation:
In the name of the Gods and all ye spirits,
In the name of Kernunnos, and the light and the dark
and the Gods of the Netherworld,
Remove thy curse and sting from my heart and mine.
And whosoever shall be casting a curse against me,
Let he or she suffer their own curse.
Let these candles be their candles,
This burning be their burning,
This curse be their curse.
Let the pain they have caused me and mine
Fall upon themselves.
The two candles are completely burned each night.
SPELL TO CHANGE FATE
(the wishing candle spell)
Be forewarned, changing may make some parts of your life stronger, yet other parts weaker.
Materials:
- A special candle chosen especially for the spell
- A pentacle with corresponding symbols like Saturn and symbols of what you wish to change written on it.
- 4 black candles smaller than the special candle (wishing candle)
Preparations:
Set up altar with the four candles in each corner, and in the center put the pentacle and the
wishing candle over it. Wait to do the spell until the full moon, and then make sure you do it
at night and where the stars are in full view.
Procedure:
On the new moon, look unto the sky for the 7 brightest stars. Hold up a lighter and say/chant:
"I wish I may, I wish I might, have the wish I wish this night.
For change of ______ this night I ask, and by the flame, I ask it last.
Seven brightest stars in the sky, light the flame I hold high."
With this light your lighter, light the wishing candle, and light the little candles in it's flame.
Now go about business as usual.
NEW JOB CANDLE BURNING MAGICK
Goddess Candle God Candle Incense Green Candle Good Luck Oil
Black Candle Banishing Oil Petitioner Candle
Build your altar. Place the Petitioner candle beneath the Goddess
candle and place the green and black candles beneath the God candle.
Light the incense. Anoint the black candle with banishing oil and say,
" empower this candle to absorb all negative forces acting upon me.
As this candle burns, let it's powers engulf all obstacles in my way,
leaving my path clear for success."
Light the black candle. Anoint green candle with good luck oil and say,
"I empower this candle to bring me good luck, prosperity and success
in acquiring a new and better job. As this candle burns, so might it
be a beacon for good fortune and prosperity." Light the green candle.
You need not anoint the petitioner candle, but focus strongly on this person
(if it is yourself, see yourself in your new job) as you light it, saying,
"As this candle represents {name}, let it be a beacon for positive forces and energies.
As this candle burns bright, so does the light of {names}'s heart burn bright with ambition
and desire for a new, better job."
Concentrate firmly, directing your power to the petitioner candle, which is receiving the
energy from the green candle that is burning. After ten minutes or so of concentration,
extinguish the candles in the reverse order in which you lit them. Each day, repeat the spell,
moving the green candle two inches closer to the petitioner.
Your spell is complete when the two candles touch.
NEW EMPLOYMENT JOB SPELL
Materials:
Goddess Candle God Candle Incense Green Candle Good Luck Oil
Black Candle Banishing Oil Petitioner Candle (see astral chart)
Place the Petitioner candle beneath the Goddess candle and place the green and black
candles beneath the God candle on the altar.
Light the incense. Anoint the black candle with banishing oil and say,
"I empower this candle to absorb all negative forces acting upon me.
As this candle burns, let it's powers engulf all obstacles in my way,
leaving my path clear for success."
Light the black candle.
Anoint green candle with good luck oil and say,
"I empower this candle to bring me good luck, prosperity and
success in acquiring a new and better job.
As this candle burns, so might it be a beacon for good fortune and prosperity."
Light the green candle.
You need not anoint the petitioner candle, but focus strongly on this person
(if it is yourself, see yourself in your new job) as you light it, saying,
"As this candle represents {name}, let it be a beacon for positive forces and energies.
As this candle burns bright, so does the light of {names}'s heart burn bright
with ambition and desire for a new, better job."
Concentrate firmly, directing your power to the petitioner candle, which is receiving the
energy from the green candle that is burning. After ten minutes or so of concentration,
extinguish the candles in the reverse order in which you lit them.
Each day, repeat the spell, moving the green candle two inches closer to the petitioner.
Your spell is complete when the two candles touch.
CANDLE SPELL TO GET A JOB
This spell should be used only after you have submitted your resume or application.
With a pin or sharp knife, write the name of the company(s) you want to work for on the
side of a large green candle. On a red candle, you need to carve the victory rune
(Tiwaz, it looks like an arrow, pointing up) and your full name. Burn both candles for
30 minutes on Thursday after the sun sets, while visualizing yourself getting the kind
of job you want. At the end of the 30 minutes, snuff the candles (do not blow them out).
Burn them each Thursday after that for 15 minutes until they burn out, or until you get the job.
Dispose of the candles and leave a small bowl of milk outside overnight as an offering.
SINUS-CLEARING CANDLE
This is a candle you can make easily with household items.
It's good for clearing sinuses, and I've seen the aloe portion cure colds.
This is an effective form of aromatherapy.
Take a small votive candle holder, enough green candles to melt into the holder,
a large amount of fresh garlic, a spike from an aloe plant, (ask permission first,)
and a handful of cloves. Melt all these into the candle carefully.
Leave overnight for the wax to dry. Then, burn.
ALL PURPOSE CANDLE ANOINTING OIL
--1 cup rose petals 1 cup violets 1 cup water 1 cup olive oil 1 tbsp clove oil
--2 teaspoons powdered cinnamon 1 tablespoon powdered myrrh 1/4 cup wild fennel seeds
Gather rose petals and violets at sunrise. Place them in a clean ceramic crock.
Cover with water (fresh rain water, preferably) and let crock sit in a sunny location for
three days until an oily film (the essential oil of the flowers) is seen floating on top of the water.
Remove oil from water by carefully absorbing it into a small cotton ball.
Squeeze out oil into a clean, long-necked glass bottle. Add olive and clove oils, and swirl
gently in a clockwise direction to slowly agitate oils. Next, add cinnamon, myrrh, and fennel seeds.
Seal bottle tightly and store it in a dark, cool place.
After four weeks, strain through cheesecloth and use to anoint candles

CREATING CANDLE MAGICK
The best type of spell is one you have created yourself.
Remember, as much energy as you put in your magick, is as much energy as you'll get out.
You may also wish to enhance the effect with an appropriate scent and/or an appropriate
Gem or Stone and even an Herb. There is also a corresponding color, day, element and
moon phase, all in which, not really necessary, but will give added enhancement and power
to the magic desire. All of these elements together will manifest to one heck of a wish being
put out there upon the elements. Now a perfect moon or day is not a mandatory condition,
neither are all the rest of the enhancements. Sometimes, just the simple act of lighting of a
candle will do. For example, the in-laws are on their way over. In order for the night to go
well and no tensions or worries for the night, light a scented candle, perhaps with Jasmine
or Lavender and a pink or Blue color too. This not only looks very warm and inviting, but the
candle is sending out your wishes for a stress free night and the scent is working to calm
and ease the tensions in the room at the same time! Your mother-in-law just may think you
are okay after all while the whole time you were performing magic!!!! In your magic journal
or on parchment paper list your goal, the intended result, and a chant, prayer or poem for
your spell. For example if your goal is true love and a marriage proposal, your magical
journal (or parchment paper) may look like this:
GOAL: TRUE LOVE
INTENDED RESULT: Happiness, Marriage
CHANT: TRUE LOVE, FIND ME NOW,
BRING WITH YOU, HAPPINESS AND MARRIAGE VOW
The whole time you are saying this, you will be concentrating on the outcome of the wish
as you have envisioned it along with the way in which it will be fulfilled. Picture yourself with
your desired results, happy, in love, married, home, etc. Take a few moments to do this make
it a complete picture in your mind. Then take your candle (for this example a pink one) place
in an area so it will be undisturbed. (Please use all precautionary actions in this too.
Remember safety of yourself and others.) Determine the day of the week (Friday for manifesting
new love) and determine the MOON (in this example, you will need a WAXING MOON, to bring".)
Gather all your energy, thoughts, concentration and picture your desired results as you light your candle.
At this point you have now all the elements of the magic working for you.
There is the Air, Water, Earth, Fire, Spirit and Will that you have just released and sent out.
Stay thinking about this for a few minutes more of uninterrupted thoughts.
At this time, you can see whether your wish has or is having an effect by the way in which
the flame is behaving. Study its movements and the speaking it is doing.
Remember to relate it to the situation. If your candle goes out, it may be telling you to try again
on another night when you can concentrate a little more. Never relight the same candle.
The same is true if the candle breaks or is broken. Do not use it again.
It is best to just use the one you tried with for other non-magical purposes and get a new
one to try again. Let the candle burn undisturbed until extinguished.
At this time too, take a look and see if the melted wax from the candle left you a message.
See if you can discern anything from the image the melted wax left for you.
Please, don't be disappointed if you do not see anything remarkable or even fairly recognizable.
A further message is not always necessary and will not always be there.
But when one is, wow!, really neat and fun too! When you are through, you can throw the
remains away or bury them outside in the ground if you are so inclined.
If you have used a "petition card" (the wish written on a piece of paper or actual cards intended
for this reason and burned during the wish making), blow the ashes to the wind in the appropriate
direction of your wish while at the same time, thanking the elements for taking up your wish and
fulfilling what you desire most. Your thoughts again, at this time are highly tuned and you must
be careful in where they are going to fly. Try to ground yourself and your energies after you
have completed the task so that the energies you produced can be released to the elements
in hopes of fulfillment. You will find Candle Magick is a wondrous and powerful tool.
The above is an example only, again the best one is one you make yourself.
Use this as a guideline and remember the intention and the sincere wish is what is important.
CANDLE SPELL AGAINST PSYCHIC ATTACK
--white candle red candle black candle
Imagine a blue ball of energy inside the candles. Caress the candles as you chant:
Goddess of Three, I call upon thee,
To protect from those who wish to harm me
Keep them from using the gift from thee
Keep them from using thy gift to harm me
When you finish chanting, imagine the blue ball exploding into lines of blue.
Imagine the lines surrounding you and wrapping you in warm blue energy.
See the blue light as a shield. Know that it is unbreakable.
Think about how it is the Goddess' Light protecting you.
Then put the candles someplace where they can burn undisturbed and let them burn themselves
out, sending all the energy into your shield. This spell is best performed during the full moon.
For longer effects you can make it a seven-day spell.
ADORATION CANDLE MAGICK
On your altar, place two red candles at either end. Before doing this, rub the two candles
with rose essential oil. Again, on Friday, the day of the week devoted to the Goddess Aphrodite,
perform this task to attract your beloved. Write your name on one candle, and your beloved's on
the other. If you do not know his or her name, simply write "my beloved" or "my true love".
Again try to use language that will ensure positive magic. If you simply write "handsome" you
may well end up with someone gorgeous, but who is harmful for you in some other way.
Each evening at seven, light the candles and move them slightly closer together.
Carve into your candle a word of special significance to you, perhaps taken from your insights
when you performed the wishful thinking task. Perhaps the word "devoted" should be carved
into your beloved's candle. On your own, write the same. Meditate on this quality for several
minutes, then snuff out the candles. Repeat this for seven nights, using a different quality each
time, until on the seventh, the following Friday, both candles are finally standing as close together
as possible. Light them and let them burn down and out. If any wax remains, scatter it before you
as you walk through a beautiful place, wishing it to bring good fortune to others hoping for love.
CANDLE BINDING
Get a large white candle, the kind that drips wax, and set it up on a tray.
Affix to it a photograph or other image of the person you wish to bind.
Make a ring of sea salt around it. Make a second ring with protective herbs.
Fill the rest of the tray with images that represent what you are binding the person from:
pictures of your family, keys to your house, legal documents, whatever.
If the problem is too complex for images, write what the person is bound from on slips of
paper and place them around the candle. Papyrus, or paper made from cotton or linen
work best for this. Use red ink if you are angry, purple ink if you are sad.
Wrap the candle and the image with black thread (linen, if possible).
Invoke Isis and Linda, the Binder With Linen Thread.
Say out loud what you are binding the person from.
Light the candle and leave it burn until the wax begins to drip over the thread and image.
Burn it every day for a week, until the image is thick with wax.
Use this as a meditation device to direct your will to binding the person.
CANDLE SPELL FOR JUSTICE OR HELP IN LEGAL MATTERS
It does not require a sword only Tarot and candles.
You might want to burn some herbs or incense associated with justice while doing this spell.
Also a simple yet incredibly powerful protection spell is done with a small or medium sized
mirror you can hold in your hands.
While holding the mirror facing outwards in other words not showing your reflection but
turned to reflect out, turn in a counter clockwise circle to banish while saying:
Circle of reflection, Circle of protection,
May the sender of all harm, Feel the power of this charm.
This does not send any negative energy at the sender hence eliminating the cause
and effect portion of negativity adding to negativity but it reflects back anything being
directed at you. So it bounces off you instead of affecting you.
Circle three times full round chanting this or until you feel it is complete, then make
a closing statement such as: So Be It
HEALTH SPELL
Description:
This is actually an example of candle magick. Grind some nutmeg and mix it into
the wax as you prepare the candle. Add some vanilla extract to the wax for smell.
Light the candle and let the fumes fill your house.
This works well against the flu and the dreaded cold.
If you combine this with some jewel therapy remember that sapphire is a general
enchanter and that agate is said to reduce fever.
TO MAKE A CANDLE:
First you will need to buy a sheet of wax from a craft or hobby store.
Cut it into several chunks and fill a coffee can roughly half full with it.
Place the can in a pot that has water in it. The water level should not be higher than the
can because sometimes water will spill or boil over. Heat the pot of water and when the
wax has turned into a fairly clear liquid, use a pair of tongs to pour it into a frame.
Some people make their own frames out of sheet metal. Keep the frame upside down
and suspend a wick with an extended rod, letting the wick hang down with a little extra
at the end to light. It's okay to use empty tuna fish cans to create votives and feel free to
experiment with other designs.
HEALING FIRE CANDLE SPELL
You will need: -- Three Purple Candles Three Blue Candles Photograph of yourself .
Place the candles in a circle around the photograph. Charge each candle individually:
"I charge you by the powers of fire East, South, West, and North;
I charge you by the powers of The Earth, Air, Fire and Water.
I charge you by the powers of The Sun, the Moon, and the Stars:
To heal me of this disease (or ailment) Its causes and its manifestations.
So mote it be!" Now, after you light each candle, say:
"Burn the sickness in your flame Burn the sickness that would maim.
Burn the illness by your might Burn the illness in your light.
Heal me of illness and pain Heal me of all that is bane.
Heal me and set me free With my will so must it be!"
Do this spell as many nights in a row that you need to.
QUICK CANDLE HEALING SPELL
On a blue candle, use a pin to inscribe-moving from the base to the tip-the name
of the person who is ill. Pierce the candle with the pin and leave it there.
Let the candle burn down and extinguish itself.
HEALING CANDLE SPELL
You will need 7 candles. One white for the Lady, one yellow for the Lord.
One orange for encouragement and attraction, one for yourself according to your astral
color, and three red candles for strength and health. You can burn some type of light
incense if you like. Light the Lord and Lady candles first then light the incense.
Sit for a few moments and think of goodness and health coming into you.
Light the petitioner's candle and picture the person and say:
Here is ________ in excellent health.
Blessings from the Lord & Lady be upon him.
Light the orange candle and say:
This flame draws all that is good to _________.
It draws health and strength and all he desires.
Light red candles saying:
Here is health and strength three fold.
Take into _________ to serve and build him as the Lord and Lady would wish.
Sit and meditate on your good health you desire. Extinguish the candles.
Repeat this every Friday for 7 days, each time moving the red candles closer to the
petitioner candle. On the 7th Friday they should touch the petitioner's candle.
CANDLE JUSTICE SPELL
First, you must recite the opening chant:
" I move outside the limits of time to work my spell
The dragons help me weave the universal energy
The things that now exist become what I desire
The tides of Magick answer unto me"
Then, you need a tarot deck. Cards needed: Justice, The World, and nine of cups
Candles needed: gray, orange, indigo, purple, black, and gold.
Arrange the cards IN ORDER, left to right: Justice, The World, and then 9 of cups.
Arrange the candles below the cards IN THIS ORDER: gray, orange, indigo, purple, black,
and gold. Light the candles and after clearing your mind, say:
"Gray mists to hide what I must do.
Orange light to change my luck and give me power.
Indigo strength to stop gossip and lies.
Purple power to break bad luck and drive away evil.
Great black walls to protect me from my enemies.
Sun-gold beams to give me fortune and success.
I stand surrounded by these powerful lights.
I ask the dragon's help to succeed in my case."
Concentrate a few moments on the cards and your objective.
After this you must say the closing chant:
"My thanks to the dragons, great and small, who came to answer my call,
We wove the Magick, wild and free, And as I will, so shall it be."
Place the candles in a safe place so they will not catch anything on fire,
such as a sink or even in the bath tub, and allow them to burn themselves out.
REVERSING CROSSED CONDITIONS WITH A BLACK CANDLE
If you know who has put a crossed condition on you and you want to reverse the jinx onto them,
burn a black candle on their name (putting their name on a paper beneath an overturned saucer
under the candle) or carve their name on the candle.
If you don't know the name of the person who did this trick to you, carve the words "My Enemy"
on the candle. Any black candle will do, but if you use a black candle in the figure of the Devil,
carve their name on it, and dress it with Cast Off Evil Oil, things will go harder with them.
Burn the black candle on the toilet tank, a little bit each night, pinching it out between burnings.
Burn it while the moon is growing smaller -- then, on the dark of the moon, the darkest night of
the month, turn the burning black candle upside down and extinguish it in the toilet bowl, saying
"Thus will you, [name of enemy], meet your fate!"
Throw the remaining black candle stub and wax into a crossroads -- or into the yard of the person
who had put the roots on you or jinxed you.
PRESSED FLOWER CANDLES
These candles are a great bathroom accent. Pansies make some of the best candles.
You can also use greenery such as fern or leaves, those purple leaves are great.
You display the flowers and greenery on the candle beneath a thin layer of wax.
You will need: Pillar candles Pressed flowers (your choice) Pressed greens (your choice)
raffia, (optional) craft glue or hot glue paraffin wax sauce pan metal bowl tongs
news paper, an old towel, or use wax paper.
To make these lovely candles:
Very carefully, or with tweezers, pick up flowers and greenery. Arrange on candle.
Also very carefully add a touch of glue to the backs of the flowers and greenery you can use
a tooth pick or Q-Tip to make it easier.
Let it sit for about 15 minutes to allow glue to dry completely.
Fill sauce pan with water and warm over medium low heat.
Balance metal bowl on rims so it sits above the waters surface. Melt wax this way.
Hold candle by the wick, either with your fingers (long wick) or for safety with piers or tongs.
Dip candle into the wax entirely. Remove slowly.
Place candle on wax paper and allow to dry very well.
Most flowers are great with this idea, and fern, cedar and oak leaves are very nice.
You can also splash things up a bit by adding colored leaves around the candle before
dipping for a stunning effect. You can also adorn with wheat or cat tails.

one pink and one red, and some red thread and jasmine oil.
Anoint the candles with jasmine oil using your fingertips, then light them while visualizing
the flames of passion growing between yourself and new, but yet unknown, love.
Link the candles together by making a figure eight between them with the thread while repeating:
"Flames of passion and seeds of romance grow;
I open my heart to love. Now the one who seeks me shall come."
For best results, enact the spell on three consecutive nights.

While purifying the candle with the oil you want to recharge the candle with love and desire,
so visualize love and channel all your emotion into the candle.
After the oil is finished, take a knife and carve what it is you want into the candle.
CREATING CANDLE MAGICK
One of the simplest of magical arts which comes under the heading of natural magick is
candle burning. It is simple because it employs little ritual and few ceremonial artifacts.
The theatrical props of candle magick can be purchased at any department store and its
rituals can be practiced in any sitting room or bedroom.
Most of us have performed our first act of candle magick by the time we are two years old.
Blowing out the tiny candles on our first birthday cake and making a wish is pure magic.
This childhood custom is based on the three magickal principals of concentration, will power
and visualization. In simple terms, the child who wants his wish to come true has to
concentrate (blow out the candles), visualize the end result (make a wish) and hope
that it will come true (will power).
The size and shape of the candles you use is unimportant, although highly decorative,
extra large, or unusually shaped candles will not be suitable as these may create distractions
when the magician wants to concentrate on the important work in hand. Most magicians
prefer to use candles of standard or uniform size if possible. Those which are sold in different
colors for domestic use are ideal.
The candles you use for any type of magical use should be virgin, that is unused. Under no
circumstances use a candle which has already adorned a dinner table or been used as a
bedroom candle or night-light. There is a very good occult reason for not using anything but
virgin materials in magic. Vibrations picked up by secondhand materials or equipment may
disturb your workings and negate their effectiveness.
Some magicians who are artistically inclined prefer to make their own candles for ritual and
magical use. This is a very practical exercise because not only does it impregnate the candle
with your own personal vibrations, but the mere act of making your own candle is magically
potent. Specialist shops sell candle wax and molds together with wicks, perfumes, and other equipment.
The hot wax is heated until liquid and then poured into the mould through which a suitably
sized wick has already been threaded. The wax is then left to cool and once is this has occurred
the mould is removed , leaving a perfectly formed candle. Special oil-soluble dyes and perfumes
can be added to the wax before the cooling process is complete to provide suitable colors and
scents for a particular magical ritual. Craft shops which sell candlemaking supplies can also provide
do-it-yourself books explaining the technicalities of the art to the beginner
Once you have purchased or made your ritual candle it has to be oiled or 'dressed' before burning.
The purpose of dressing the candle is to establish a psychic link between it and the magician
through a primal sensory experience. By physically touching the candle during the dressing
procedure, you are charging it with our own personal vibrations and also concentrating the
desire of your magical act into the wax. The candle is becoming an extension of the magician's
mental power and life energy.
When you dress a candle for magical use, imagine that it is a psychic magnet with a North and
a South pole. Rub the oil into the candle beginning at the top or North end and work downwards
to the half-way point. Always brush in the same direction downwards. This process is then
repeated by beginning at the bottom or south end and working up to the middle.
The best type of oils to use for dressing candles are natural ones which can be obtained quite easily.
Some occult suppliers will provide candle magic oils with exotic names. If the magician does not
want to use these, he can select suitable oils or perfumes from his own sources. The oils soluble
perfumes sold by craft shops for inclusion in candles can be recommended.
the candles you use can be colored in accordance with the following magical uses:
white- spirituality and peace. red- health, energy, strength, courage, sexual potency.
pink- love affection and romance. yellow- intellectualism, imagination, memory and creativity
green- fertility, abundance, good luck and harmony blue-inspiration, occult wisdom, protection
and devotion purple Material wealth, higher psychic ability, spiritual power and idealism
silver- clairvoyance, inspiration, astral energy and intuition orange- ambition. career matters and the law.
If you wanted to use candle magic for healing, you would select a red candle to burn.
To pass an exam, burn a yellow candle, to gain esoteric knowledge burn a blue candle or for
material gain, burn a purple one. It is obvious these colors relate to the signs of the zodiac
and the planetary forces.
The simples form of candle magic is to write doesn't the objective of your ritual on a virgin
piece of paper. You can use color paper which matches the candle. Write your petition on
the paper using a magical alphabet, such as theban, Enochian, malachain, etc. As you write
down what you want to accomplish through candle magic-- a new job, healing for a friend,
a change of residence, a new love affair, etc.-- visualize your dream coming true.
Visualize the circumstances under which you might be offered a new job, imagine your
employer telling you that your salary has been increased or conjure up a vision of your
perfect love partner.
When you have completed writing down your petitio, carefully fold up the paper in a deliberately
slow fashion. Place the end of the folded paper in the candle flame and set light to it. As you do
this concentrate once more on what you want from life.
When you have completed your ritual, allow the candle to have completely burned away.
You do not need to stay with the candle after the ritual, but make sure that is safe and that
red-hot wax will not cause damage or fire. Never re-use a candle which has been lit in any
magical ritual. IT should only be used in that ritual and then allowed to burn away or be
disposed of afterwards.
If you are conducting a magical ritual which involves two people (e.g. an absent healing for
a person some distance away) then the second person can be symbolically represented
during the ritual by another candle. /all you need to do is find out the subject's birth date
and burn the appropriate candle for that zodiacal sign. These are as follows.
ARIES red
TAURUS green
GEMINI yellow
CANCER silver
LEO orange
VIRGO yellow
LIBRA pink
SCORPIO red
SAGITARIUS purple
CAPRICORN black
AQUARIUS all colors
PISCES mauve

Finally, blow out the candle, whisper the word "sleep" and turn in for the night.
Note that this spell does not need to be repeated to continue working.
Instead, simply light the candle for a few minutes each night, then whisper "sleep" again
before getting into bed. When the candle is completely spent, repeat the original spell
with a new white candle.

Meditation is a conscious mental state where our body and mind are purposefully focused and relaxed. Expert meditators swear that doing it regularly, using the right meditation technique, leads to a higher state of consciousness. They say meditation gives you better focus, sharper concentration, and increased awareness, plus a healthier positive outlook.
You don't have to be mystic, or a 'guru' to enjoy the acclaimed benefits of meditation and you can literally meditate anywhere, but preferably where you don't have to concentrate on driving a car or machinery.
Meditation has many different disciplines and approaches, but the basic fundamentals remain common to all. The ultimate focus is getting rid of negative, wandering, and obstructive thoughts by disciplining the mind to become accustomed to a higher plane of activity. Meditation seeks to get rid of the the 'flak' and 'junk' that fills your mind, replacing it with more meaningful ideas and thoughts.
Reigning in the mind through meditation, seeks to tune your thoughts to a better purpose; to clean it of rubbish and self-defeating thinking.
One school of meditation requires the removal of all outside sensory stimulation so that exterioir noises and sights are phased out.
Other meditators deliberately focus their mind on some meaningful and important thought. This is not easy because we are all very accustomed to sensory overload in our daily lives. The paradox is that by settling the mind and training it through meditation, practitioners become much more aware of what's going on around them.
Traditionally, we are familiar with mystics contorting themselves into all sorts of weird positions when they meditate, but rather than jumping in to try yoga meditation, those starting out should simply find a comfortable position to calm the body and the mind. You could lie down, sit cross legged, or even be walking as you meditate; anything that induces an atmosphere where you can both relax and concentrate.
Ensure that your back is straight and that your muscles are not tense or uncomfortable. But, don't become so relaxed that you fall asleep, because this is a different mind state.
You should dress in very loose, comfortable, baggy clothing that does not constrict you in any way. Many expert meditators barely cover themselves at all; maybe just with a loin cloth.
The environment for your meditation should also be peaceful, pleasant, soothing and relaxing. It could be your favourite room in the house, or in your garden, or even in a warm bath.
Should you be a bit more advanced in your meditation journey, you could consider using an exercise mat. Some people even have a favourite meditation chair. Try some of the challenging positions you might have learned from your yoga or even Pilates class. But, don't be too hard on yourself. Practice easy positions first and build your meditation approach as you become more confident.
Some people prefer a silent atmosphere when meditating; others like some appropriate relaxing meditation music or recorded natural sounds, like whales singing, birds quitely chirping or water flowing. There are even good recorded guided medition CDs you can use to enhace your practice.
You might also like to have some pleasant incense burning, or even some nice smelling candles, to add to your peaceful meditation environment.
You will need to get instruction about this, but one school of meditation involves chanting, or humming what sounds like a monotonous noise. This is actually a mantra which has a mystic value to the person using it. Meditation chanting is a more advanced technique.
Breathing is an important part of meditation. Yoga teaches us to breath in through our nose to the count of five, then out through our mouth, to the countr of 10. You can use this tecnique to become calm in stressful situations.
The whole purpose of all these techniques; breathing, chanting, relaxing; is to focus and discipline the mind. Another meditation technique is to singularly focus on a particular object or idea.
A good meditation technique is to calm your mind and then to quietly, without speaking, only thinking it, name each part of your body, progressively focussing your consciousness on them in succession. You'll find it works very well to mentally visualise each body part as becoming completely relaxed, and without any tension. Some people visualise the tension flowing out of them like a soft flowing stream.
IF you are interested in taking up meditation, it's definitely worth getting some lessons from the experts. Researchers have discovered that meditation has a beneficial impact on the mind and body, but it takes practice.
Even medical doctors are coming around to the view that a healthy mind leads to a healthy body. Meditation, or disciplined relaxation of the mind, has spin-off benefits to the body's biochemical processes and organ health.
After all, practitioners have been advocating meditation for many thousands of years and, in today's frenetic world, deliberate and regular 'calming of the mind', through meditation, should be a daily practice for better mental and physical health.

Fire Gazing
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This ancient technique can produce surprising results. Sit before a roaring fire. Ask your question. Gaze into the flames while the fire burns down. Within the flames, or in the sparkling, glowing coals below them, images of the future may appear. Interpret them with symbolic thought. It's best to limit gazing time to about five minutes, but there's no need to check your watch. Allow the images to come to you for an appropriate time.
Burnings

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Write a question concerning the future on a small piece of paper. Place it face down on a flat, heat-proof surface. Light one corner of the paper with a match. If the entire paper burns, the answer is yes. If only part of the paper is destroyed, the answer is no.
Candles

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To perform any of the following rites, choose a room not usually subject to winds or drafts. Night is the preferred time, and it's best to lower the lights. Use whits candles except where otherwise indicated.

Light a candle and place it in its holder. Sit or stand before it and search for signs from the flame itself and its wick. If the flame seems dim, it may be best to hold off on plans for the time being. An extremely bright flame is a sign of good fortune, but if it quickly grows smaller, the luck will be temporary.

If the flame waves about, bad weather may be coming, or a great change in circumstances is foretold. A spark visible in the wick indicates the imminent arrival of good news. If the flame turns in a circle or seems to form a spiral, danger is forecast. Finally, a halo around the flame indicates an approaching storm.

Another method of reading candles involves watching the manner in which the molten wax drips down the candle sides. Place the candle in a holder. Ask a yes or no question while lighting the wick. Watch it for some time. If the wax drips only on the left side, the answer is no. If on the right, yes. If equally on both sides, no response is possible. If no wax drips down, ask again later.

A rather unusual form of candle divination involves the remarkable properties of fresh lemon juice. Obtain a clean, non-ball point or felt-tip pen. (The type used for calligraphy). Since neither an ink-filled pen nor a pencil can be used, a sharpened, short stick may be substituted.

Squeeze the juice from a lemon into a small bowl. Lay three, five or seven pieces of paper on a flat surface. Dipping the pen into the lemon juice, (write) a possible future on each piece of paper with the juice; the juice here acts as the ink. Since lemon juice is invisble and difficult to write with, reduce these futures to just a few words. Allow them to dry.

Light a candle. Place the slips of paper into a bowl. Mix them with your left hand, then choose one at random. Hold the chosen piece of paper close enough to the flame to heat it but not enough to burn it. The heat will reveal the future written on the paper as the lemon juice darkens. This will determine the possible future.
Smoke

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One method is known as "smoke reading." Light a candle. Pass a plain white card through the flames three times while asking a question. (do this quickly to avoid setting the card on fire.) Interpret the resulting carbon deposits left on the underside of the card with symbolic thought.

There are many older techniques. For example, build a fire outside in a safe place while asking a yes/no question. Watch the smoke. If it rises straight and lightly into the air, a positive answer has been received. If, however, it hangs heavily around the fire, the reverse is true.
Ashes

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Collect ashes from dead fires or the fire place. Outside, in a place where the wind usually blows at some time, scatter the ashes to a good depth in a rectagular shape on the ground. While asking your question regarding the future, use a finger to write the word yes in the ashes to the right and no to the left. Leave them undisturbed overnight.

In the morning, study the ashes. If both words are clearly legible, no answer is possible at this time. If one has been erased by animal tracks, the wind or by some other force, the remaining word reveals the answer to your question. If both words are gone, again, no answer has been given.

A vital contributor to candle-making is the wicking. There are many different types and sizes available for every kind of candle. Choosing the right wick for your project can be tedious, but not if you have all the information.
Flat-braid cotton wicks are perfect for pillar candles but should not be used with gel candles, since the wicking will have no support and will simply drown itself in the melted wax. 30 ply wicking should be used with 3.5 to 4 inch diameter pillars, 24 ply for 2.5 to 3 inch diameter pillars, and 18 ply for 1 to 2 inch diameter pillars.
Used often with beeswax candles, square braid wicks curl and bend at the end during burning, which prevents mushrooming (carbon buildup) at the end of the wick. The reason this type of wick is popular with candle-makers using beeswax is because the melted beeswax gets drawn up through the wick for better burning. #1 should be used for 1-2 inch diameter pillars, #2 is for 2-3 inch diameter pillars, and #3 is used with 3.5-4 inch diameter pillars.
Cored wicks have either zinc, cotton, paper, or tin within the center of the standard braid. This keeps the wick standing straight instead of drowning itself in the melted wax. Because of this benefit, cored wicks are maybe the most popular. Sizes and applications are as follows:
36-24-24 - for use with small container or votive candles
44-24-18 - for use with votives and 2-3.5 inch diameter container candles
51-32-18 - for use with 3-4 inch diameter container candles
60-44-18 - for use with 4-5 inch diameter container candles
Because different wicks produce different heights and strengths of flame, it is a good idea to test different wicks and see which ones work best for you. Because wicking is so inexpensive, it's easy to experiment with different wicks.
If you find that the candle is smoking, the wick is probably too large. When the wick is too large, it burns the wax too quickly, which results in soot. If a candle burns down the middle, leaving much of the outer edges of the wax un-melted, this means that the wick is too small. This generally results in the wick drowning itself in melted wax.

Pros and Cons of Using Soy Candles
Here are both sides of the story.
Clean and Green?
Soy wax was developed as an alternative to petroleum or paraffin based waxes. These are by-products of the fossil fuel industry, produce carbon dioxide and can give off harmful soot and pollutants when burned. Soy is a natural, plant based wax that produces a clean flame with relatively no soot given off. It burns for longer and gives a brighter flame, reducing the amount of candles needed to give the same amount of light.
Enthusiasts point out that soy candles are helping to reduce the amount of petrol used ?thus helping the environment. They also have benefits for people who suffer allergies, and add minimal pollution to the atmosphere of your home or the planet! Soy is a natural resource, and therefore fully biodegradable.
Another area where soy candles are advantageous is safety ?they burn with a cooler flame than paraffin which means that containers or candlesticks are less likely to heat up to a temperature where they may crack or split. (Of course, any naked flame can still be a safety hazard, and should never be left unattended.)
While beeswax has long been the alternative natural choice for quality wax, it is also known as a relatively expensive product. Soybeans are cheap and easy to source, and the process is less complex than that of beeswax collection. This means that soy wax and candles can be produced at a lower cost than pure beeswax ?with many of the same benefits.
The case against...
The evidence that paraffin wax and candles are harmful to health has been contested by some. There are those who argue that the soot produced is of a miniscule amount and is natural carbon ?any quality, well-made candle should produce a tiny amount of wax and few harmful by-products or pollutants. They claim that the wick is more important than the type of wax used. As soy is such a new product, the evidence either way is as yet inconclusive. Experts recommend keeping wicks short and choosing unscented candles.
Another issue is the environmental one. Soy wax is made from soybean oil, with a process of mechanical extraction. Detractors point out that soy is one of the crops that are most likely to be genetically modified, and the growing methods are often harmful to the environment, using pesticides and forest clearing to produce large soybean crops.

Candleburning is a powerful tradition. Learn the secrets of doing a job with candles.

Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Matthew 5:14-16
How Do I Dress My Candle for Ritual Burning?
This is a common question we receive at the MISTIC. There is no single right or wrong answer.  In the end Readers, do what feels most right to you. We dress candles every day for our customers and are happy to share our thoughts on making such devotions with you.
I can tell you this, however, the procedure of treating and preparing your candle is just as important, if not more so than actually burning the light. Go into the preparation of candles as if you are performing surgery. Take a spiritual bath before you begin. Dress in light colored, comfortable clothing. Work in a sacred space or at your altar. Light altar candles to illuminate the task at hand. Burn incense related to the job your doing. Say prayers to God, the Saints, your Spirits, Ancestors or Alignments to witness your work. If you do the job half-baked, your results will be half-baked. Remember, they call this Spiritual Work not Spiritual Easy!
Looking at the Candle section of the website, you will find many types of candles. It can be difficult to decide which type of candle is going to be most effective for the work you are doing.
I categorize candles into two easily distinguished classes: 1.) Glass Encased "Jar" Candles and 2.) those not in a glass casing.
The When and How of Working With Glass Encased or Jar Candles
Glass candles are used primarily for vigils, novenas and are a present day replacement for magical lamps. I never use them on their own for spiritual work on specific targets (people or institutions). When working on another person, the visual symbolism of a figural candle is too strong to pass on. Plus, because this is the most difficult type of work, you need all the extra steps and help that you can get. Figural, Pullout and Jumbo candles allow you to spend a lot of time focusing and visualizing your intentions. They also allow usage of the maximum amount of herbal material (oils, powders, herbs). Lastly, because there is no barrier (the glass) between you and the wax - your influence is pervasive on the candle.
Glass Candles work great for drawing new things - working as a receptacle for prayers which are building up over a number of days. Use them for increasing luck, success, spiritual power, mastery, money drawing and finding new love. They also can be used to promote health, encourage peace in the home and find new employment.
It is also good to burn jar candles during long term uncrossing rituals or for spiritual protection.
Jar candles are great when you need to keep "heat" on a situation. If you are performing work for seven or nine days, you might keep two altar candles lit during the process. Or, if you are doing something more specific, like "Come To Me", you might keep a dressed Come To Me Jar Candle lit on the altar for the entire time you work a figure candle.
The same applies to work done with Saints. For instance, if you are using St. Anthony to find a lost boyfriend, work a male figure candle on him, but also keep a Saint Anthony candle lit the entire time you are working.
Dealing with the large variety of non-encased candles is a whole 'nother ball of wax - so much so that I have written a separate article on the variety available. Furthermore, due to the multitude of applications non-encased candles are used for, I have broken down their preparation into four distinct articles:
Candle Marking - Designating the intended target of the candle.
Candle Dressing - Applying the appropriate herbal materials for your work.
Candle Measuring - Dividing the candle up for sequential days of ritual.
Candle Naming - Blessing, Consecrating and Making a statement of your Intentions to the Higher Power or Universe.

Jar Candles are easy to prepare. All candles should be cleaned before use. You might do this when you receive them so they are dry and ready to go for ritual.
We clean our candles with Florida Water before doing anything else to them. This not only removes dust & debris but also takes off any negativity that may have attached itself to the light. Many spiritualists use Holy Water for this job or blessed salt water that they have consecrated to the Spirit.
Preparing Jar Candles for Ritual
1. MARK THE CANDLE ~ Each candle should be labeled according to its intent. We use toothpicks to mark ours, but any small, sharp implement will do. At the Mistic we carve the Old Testament Star of David into the top of our Jar candles. This consists of two triangles, which can be traced around the wick. We further label each candle by adding the target’s initials in the wax.  Or if it is for money we write the amount in the top of the candle. If we don’t have a person’s name we might write something to identify them like: "the judge" or "nosy neighbor"?The only candles which do not need markings are the basic altar candles.
3. DRESSING CANDLES ~ We are finally ready to put oil(s) and whatever other ingredients we desire onto our Candles. Some people like to punch a number of holes into the wax of the candle to make little wells for the oil.
For Jar candles, anoint the exposed wax at the top with your index finger (projective, magic finger) in a clockwise direction for DRAWING and counterclockwise for REMOVING. This mimics the movement of the Sun. If you put holes in the wax, pour in some oil and then rub it in with your finger. Now sprinkle your powders, herbs, glitter, magnetic sands - whatever else you are using in the same manner.
As you add each ingredient, make a statement of what you need it to do for you. For instance, if doing a love drawing work on a specific person, you might state:
Come To Me oil is for drawing "John Brown" to me with passion and love.
We KNOW that what is most important in dressing the candle is your PRAYER and FOCUS on your intentions.
4. NAME THE CANDLE~ Even if you have already marked the candle with the target's initials, you should also create a name paper for the work. Or you might want to place a petition under the candle. By the light of your altar candles, and before the candle you are using for work, create the written document or record of what you intend the candle to do.
Take your marked and dressed candle and dedicate it to the Spirit. Many old Hoodoos present their candles to the four directions  (North, South, East & West) then offer it up to God, Jesus & The Holy Spirit. Or they may sprinkle Holy Water on the candle three times and actually baptize the candle in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
Some further dedicate the light to a Patron Saint by saying a simple prayer: “Saint so & so (or Holy Spirit), confer your Blessings upon this instrument which I use in thine name.?/DIV>
In most instances, you will want to place your candle on a plate or saucer under which you have put the name paper or petition. When you light the candle, once again state your intentions. For instance, with a Come To Me candle you might state,
"With this candle, I Susie Smith will draw John Brown to me in love, friendship and passion for a romantic relationship."
The last step is to say whatever prayers, affirmations or incantations you desire over the candle flame. Remember to repeat the prayers whichever number of times applies to the type work you are performing. Lastly, spend some time (after praying) visualizing the end result of the candle work - what your ultimate goal is for the candle burning.

Steps of Candle Magick
When performing Candle Magick (or any magick) there are steps one must take to ensure the desired result. First and foremost, you must DEFINE the magickal goal you wish to reach. Be very explicit and clear as to this wish. Write in a journal the goals or desires, clarifiy exactly what is is you you wish or desire and how you will obtain it. You must be very careful in this. Remember the old saying, be careful what your wish for, you may get it?, that epitomizes the caution in which you must exercise in defining your goals.
In developing your goal, it will come as a desire/wish. Take this and dissect it. Write it out. Loak at it from every conceivable angle. Question every word. Dissect it into seperate vowels and consonants. Does it feel right? Will it harm you? Will it harm anyone? Should it say "we" instead of "I"? Is it imposing on another? Ask yourself, Why? you are asking for this. Is it reasonable? Do you need to reword? Is that love you are looking for in a certain person? If so or not, have you asked their permission to perform this? What is to happen if you do this, do you really know this person enough to give of yourself that much? Are you in any way perhaps subconsciously preventing this from happening? Have you really thought this out? What about the way in which you wish to manifest? Have you thought out all the possibilities? Again, will this have any eventual harmful effects on you? Another? Have you done everything you know how to make it manifest before this? Are you truly sure of this wish?
Now that you have thought it out, visualized the way in which you wish it to manifest, what about the result? Have you truly thought of all the ramifications? What then will happen when it does? How will it affect you? Others? What if it comes and you find yourself unhappy? If you can honestly answer all those questions and have the wish thought out and written down, you can then proceed with the following steps:
Preparation: You will need to prepare youself for magick. Your state of mind is of utmost importance. Now you must take great care in drawng energies upon yourself, which will be released by your concentration as a thought form when you light your candle. You will need to know how to harness, work within and then release the tremendous amount of energy you will be dealing with. You should also learn all you can of these and the one or many elements you will be working with. Fire is one, if not the, most strongest and potent form of the element. You may want to read some meditation and chakra information on balancing your energy and clearing and grounding yourself for magick. Thought forms are powerful at this time and you must learn how to control them, otherwise things can literally go backwward on you or just plain bad.
Choosing your candle: One you have clarified your desires and prepared yourself, you are now ready to choose your candle. There are many colors, scents, herbs, elements, directions and day associations that we align when choosing your candle. There are also many shapes and types of candles you can use.
Remember to light your candle with a match, do not a lighter or other artificial means. Do not blow the candle out, use a snuffer or wet your fingers and pit it out. Blowing out the candle is considered an affront. Please use caution and think of your safety when dealing with fire, do not use anything flammable around your candle and most important of all, keep children away.

Tips on Candle Magick
Because there might be a mess of hot wax, it's important to mention the where and how to burn candles. After a few hours spent ironing red wax out of my livingroom rug a few years ago (Important tip: If you have a candle spill on carpeting, the best plan of action is plenty of paper towels on top of the wax and ironing it to get the wax to absorb into the paper toweling), I have found that in addition to the regular candle holder, it also helps to put a serving tray or extra large plate under the candles to catch any flow of hot wax that might get out of hand. My favorite things to put on an altar or a table are the metal beverage trays that you find at novelty stores. Any tray with an edge will protect not only your carpet, but also your altar tools if they are nearby. I have been known to burn more than one candle at a time on the large trays. Also, if you are scouting around at auctions or second hand stores, saucers, dinner plates and shallow bowls from chipped or mismatched china sets make absolutely wonderful extra things to set candles, on either with a holder, or if it's a fat pillar, you can place it on the plate if there is enough of a rim. Scout out second hand places for old elegant china. One of my best investments is an entire box full of china nobody wanted at an auction because a few pieces were missing and a few of the plates were chipped. For ten dollars I had enough plates with gold edging and roses to not only fit under candles, but to use under leaky plant pots. It is also important to keep an eye on candles while they are burning. Those warning labels on candles that say "Never leave a burning candle unattended" should give you room for pause. Several people I know who are reluctant to pinch the flame out when they have a spell candle going, have suggested that the safest place would be to place the candle in a bathtub. I have never taken that risk. If in doubt, I snuff it out (which is why I have a candle snuffer in almost every area of my house.) I never "blow" a candle out which is being used for spellwork. If I do get called away for an emergency, I use a candle snuffer to put the flame safely out until I can get back to re-light it. Before lighting a candle, it's best to plan to stick around the house for a few hours. Safety first! Many firemen can probably attest to the number of fires that have been started via unattended candles. It's also important to factor in the possibility of pets and small children, and to place lit candles in a fairly protected zone. Choose where you plan to have open flames carefully. There are several places in my house where I quite often have several candles going. If you do leave the room they are in, it is a good idea to pass by quite often to keep an eye on things.. After all, the candle and flame is a symbol of your will and intent. In checking on your burning candle, you are reminded of what has been set into motion with your spell, and you focus again on it. If you aren't watching or keeping an eye on your candle how can you be in the right mindset to do the mental work? If you happen to find a quality candle supplier and are ready to put some candle magick to use, the first question is what size candle will best suit your need? Many of my altar candles - those that serve a dual purpose of honoring the Goddess and the God, and those that correspond elementally with the four directions - are my primary candles in addition to any other candle work I might do. Quite often those six main candles are lit in addition to any spellwork type of candles to aid in the energy. This might not be important to everyone, but in my own workings it is primary to be balanced. In this type of situation, since they will be used daily, weekly, monthly, large candles come in handy. Anointed and dedicated to the individual purpose they serve, they serve as constant reminders that it is the "religion" and "honoring" that is daily of my focus, regardless as to whether or not there is a spell candle present on the altar.
Votives are an excellent choice for candle magick work. Most often when you think of votives, you think of their association with Catholic mass and services. A Mass offered for a votum, is a special intention. So we frequently find in prayers the expression, votiva dona "gifts offered with desire [of receiving grace in return]". Votives have even derived their name from Latin "Votum" which means prayer, wish, desire/vow, promise to God. I like to think they are superb beacons and messengers. They are quick (usually can be burned completely in an evening or a day) and usually inexpensive. Those handy little glass votive holders are easy to be found and really contain the wax so you usually burn the entire candle without much waste at all. For this reason I find them exceptional value-wise and extremely handy to have around because they store easily and make "quick work" of things. Take comfort in the fact that many church sanctuaries also use votives for the parishioners to light for rememberences and special prayers. Because they are small but stocky, you may find it helpful to inscribe a small sigil, rune or magickal symbol on them. Tapers are wonderful to work with as well. Quite often you can find excellent quality tapers on sale when stores change their stocks. As they are widely available in a variety of colors. Because they may be fragile and can break, long slender tapers should be carefully stored. Due to this fragility, they are best left either unscribed or with minimal inscription and enjoyed in a elegant standard type candleholder or some beautiful ritual candleholders. However, I find tapers a joy to anoint and nearly as fast as a votive to burn. Quite often when I am planning to do hours worth of work in a room, tapers will keep me company throughout the night. Perhaps it's because of their classic candle shape, but they really do offer a unique feel in candle magick.
Pillars - Short squat pillars, mini-pillars and the larger column candles offer a unique opportunity because they can not only be inscribed with many magickal sigils, runes or drawings, but offer enough surface area to often etch in or write out the entire working. In fact, you may come across a need to not only work out prose on paper, but feel compelled to inscribe the entire candle with it. Even if left uncarved, multi-hour candles like these can continue to burn with the same energy you need daily until the entire candle is burned if you have a particular working that you know will take some time. Making or buying quality candles - Anyone can make their own candles by simply following a good guide on candle-making available at any bookstore or library. Molds can be purchased or even made from household items (such as milk cartons and coffee cans) Sputtering wicks, or smoky wicks, or wax that burns too quickly are all problems which can occur in either store bought or homemade candles If the wax cracks, it could be that the candle was cooled at too rapid a temperature. Most chandlers use silicon spray on molds to help in getting a candle out. Candlemaking is a fine art to perfect.
Here are a few tips on some candle problems:
* Excessive Dripping - Usually this happens when the wick is too small and cannot absorb the melting wax. Be sure the candle is not in a draft that is blowing melted wax over the edge. Sometimes if the wick is the proper size, the wax is too soft or has too low of a melting point for the wick to absorb the wax.
* Rapid Burning - Not enough stearic acid in the wax, and the candle has been cooled too rapidly
* Cave-ins on the sides -The candle was not pierced in the center of the cavity around the wick well, which leaves the cavity in the middle of the candle to contract inwards.
* Excessive Smoking - When the wick is too large for the candle, the flame consumes wax faster than the wick can absorb it.
Again the key to a quality burning candle whether you make it yourself or buy it, depends upon the materials: the wicks, the wax, the stearine additive, the dye and the oil fragrance.
Some wax formulas that are used today:
70% paraffin + 20% stearic acid + 10% Beeswax
90% paraffin + 10% stearic acid
48% paraffin + 52% beeswax
It's important to select the right size of wicks for candles too: * Nightlights, tea lights and low light long burning candles-usually use a wire wick that has meltable wire inserted into a cotton wick * 1- 3 " votives and columns should use a 15 ply mordanted wick * 4" pillars and taper should use a 24 ply mordanted wick
* over 4 " should use a 30 ply mordanted wick If you were like me as a kid, and baked crayons in your Easy Bake Oven, you probably thought that crayons were wax, and would probably make a good candle. This turns out not to be true. If you use crayons in your homemade candles as one of the dye ingredients, the crayon will cause a chemical reaction that "eats up" the wick and put the candle out. The best dyes to use for coloring homemade candles are those MADE for being used in candles; oil-soluable aniline dyes which can withstand both the heat and the acid nature of stearic acid.
If you are creating your own candles, there are ways of making your candle flame burn a unique color, if you add some ingredients to the wax. Sodium chlorate or potassium nitrate added to the wax will give you a yellow flame. Strontium nitrate added to the wax will produce a red flame. Calcium chloride makes an orange flame. Borax, copper nitrates, barium nitrate will produce a green flame, and Lithium chlorate will produce a purple flame. You can either add the chemicals to the wax or soak the wick in them. If you are adding an essential oil or fragrance to a candle, it should be added just prior to pouring the wax. Too much oil will cause the wax to mottle. Three pounds of wax can be scented with a quarter of an ounce of oil, or you can saturate your wick in essential oil.

Timing

Much has been made of the astrological influences of candle magick and spellwork. Ideally, I personally consider the moon phase to beone of the most important considerations.
NEW MOON - If the goal you desire is one of a new beginning or a "start", the best time to do this is during a New Moon (this is when the moon is dark in the sky) While many do not like to work with a New Moon, I have come to discover it's one of my favorite times to work. This is the time I can to tie up loose ends, smudge the house, seal and protect. This is also a great moon to work with when you need to retreat a little bit and revive yourself. As it is the moon of "hidden knowledge" this would be an opportune time to try to ferret out information that you feel you need to know. Although the darkness in the sky is startling during a new moon, it is often associated with dormancy. We know the moon is still there, even though her reflection may be hidden. I prefer to think often of some of the darker sides of the Goddess or the darker Goddesses themselves.
WAXING MOON: While the moon is slowly filling in from a crescent on it's way to full is the best time for work that "increases". I find this an excellent time to do financial, job, attraction or anything else that needs "increasing" in volume or intensity.
FULL MOON: The full beauty of a full moon night is enough to make you gasp. Ideally, this is the time for things to come to full fruition, especially if you have been working on candle craft goal to coincide from the waxing moon into the full moon. I like to think that the Goddess can hear you better on a full moon, but seriously, whether culminating an "increase" to end on the full moon, or starting a "decrease" to begin on the full moon to decline on the course of a waning moon, the full moon has an advantage because it seems like our invocations and focus are all in high gear.
WANING MOON: When the moon is slowly crescenting bit by bit into the new moon, this is an excellent time to work on banishings or getting things out of your life that you need let go of and leave behind. Again, if it's taking you longer to let go of things or get rid of situations in your life that have outlived their usefulness, you can always gear your candleworking to culminate on the New Moon.
Often, a situation might arise which must be dealt with immediately, and cannot wait until the appropriate lunar phase. Listen to your gut instinct, and act when you must. Of course, there are always "ideal" times to light a candle. In fact, if we were to get really obsessive about perfect timing, we could consider the appropriate positioning of astrological elements, days, hours, months, and corresponding archangels to help us along. Let's face it, it's struggle enough to keep track of corresponding colors and oils to meet with our end goals!
Naturally one should rely on one's own instincts as to which color of a candle would work the best purpose for a healing, or a sabbat. We can sometimes associate what is best for "fertility" or "money" simply by visualizing the green of a field or cash and associating that with the color of a candle. There are ancient ties with candles and scientific methods too. Within the color spectrum there are seven primary wavelengths or vibrations. Ceremonial Magicians have even ascribed colors to the Kabbalah. Without overwhelming yourself on technicalities of color, you can always make exceptions or go with what feels best. If you have a friend who's going through a tough time and pale blue does NOT feel like the right color to use, why not send healing energy with an orange candle to give her the zing and zest (and not to mention the strength) to handle whatever she may be dealing with? One of my favorite candles to make is one that I call "Justice". The inspiration for that candle came from watching a woman judge on television. I loved her no nonsense approach to the riff raff that came before her bench. Wouldn't it be great, I thought, if I could create a candle that would push justice along? It was my way of focusing on letting the gods sort out whatever cluster of mess was coming across my path.
Funny thing about that candle is that I was willing to own up to my own actions and take on the self responsibility for my part in the mess, but in real life, just because "you" may be paying attention, doesn't mean other people are. There was no color correspondence in anything I ever came across for "Justice" , but in my visualization the color black seemed most approachable. It was comparable to a judicial robe, and I also felt strongly that it banished negativity and protected. So black candles became my own very own "Justice" candles.
The most important point in selecting a colored candle is to find one that relates to your own path, your own tradition and most importantly, to your "will" and "intent."

Types and History of Candles
Early candles were made of vegetable waxes produced from plants such as bayberries, candelilla leaves, candletree bark, esparto grass, and various varieties of palm leaves such as carnuba and ouricury. They were also made of animal tissue and secretions, such as spermaceti(whale oil), ambergris, and beeswax (insect secretions). Sometimes entire animals such as the stormy petrel and the candlefish of the Pacific Northwest were threaded with a wick and burned as candles. Tallow candles were made of sheep, cow, or pig fat. All these candles were rather crude, time-consuming to make and smoky.
Of the two kinds of candle fuel, beeswax was considered the better since it burned cleaner than tallow and had a lovely odor compared to tallow's rancid, smoky smell. Being scarce, beeswax was expensive. Only churches and the wealthy could afford beeswax candles.
By the 17th century, European state edicts controlled the weight, size and cost of candles. In 1709, an act of the English Parliament banned the making of candles at home unless a license was purchased and a tax paid.
Matches were invented in 1827, using poisonous phosphorus but were improved by the end of the century, eliminating the need for sparking with flint, steel, and tinder, or for keeping a fire burning 24 hours a day.
Probably most important of all, Paraffin was refined from oil around 1850, making petroleum based candles possible. The combination of paraffin, which burns clean and without odor, and stearins, which harden soft paraffin, with new wick technologies developed in the nineteenth century, revolutionized the candle industry, giving us the tools and materials we still use for candle manufacturing.

Candle Shapes
Container: Any candle that is poured into a container and intended to be burned in the container is a container candle. These candles are often made of soft wax and would not be able to stand on their own outside their enclosures.
The container also prevents soft wax from dripping. Since these candles are safely contained in a vessel, they are often used in restaurants and in religious rituals that require long-burning candles.
Pillar: A thick candle with a geometrical cross section such as a circle, oval, or hexagon is called a pillar. It is usually referred to by its diameter followed by its height. For example, a 3-by 6-inch pillar would be 3 inches in diameter and 6 inches high. Some pillars come in standard sized for commercial and religious use but you can make many variations of pillars by using molds.
Novelty: These are irregularly shaped candles made by molding, sculpting and/or pouring.
Taper: These are the long cylindrical candles that kindle memories of historic candle-dipping. Tapers can be made by dipping wicks into melted wax, by pouring wax into a mold, and by rolling wax around a wick. No matter the method, the result is always candles made to fit into a holder.
Tapers are generally made 1/2 inch or 7/8 inch in diameter at the base because most holders are designed to fit these two sizes. There are, of course, exceptions, such as birthday candles (3/16 inch) and Danish tapers (1/4 inch). Some specialty candleholders are designed to hold a taper larger than 7/8 inch.
Votive and Tea Lights:
Although these candles originated in the church, the term now refers to small plug-type candles that are 1 1/2 inches in diameter by 2 to 3 inches high. This shape has become popular for scented candles because their small size allows them to fit easily into small rooms, such as bathrooms. As votives melt and become liquid in their containers, the wick uses up all the liquid fuel. If you burn a votive on a plate, the burn time will be shorter because the wax will drip and the wick will be unable to use it.
Tea lights are small votives used to warm pots of potpourri and to heat foods. They fit in smaller-than-standard votive cups.
