seaweed grabs my feet;
chill blows black waters
under white foamy surf.
mossy rock juts out wet,
covered with droppings
of gulls.
it is so easy to drown
in those waves.

Unnameable stuff moves at different speeds
and with varying strengths, stretching, thinning
or nearly imperceptably shrugging

A siamese tortoise and hare, the one sleeping
away a course dream with it's sight and hearing
muffled with grass and clogged with sand's dampness

Like watching a speeding child skip past solid
cemetary headstones - tossed as they are
like sail boats on the sea this way that way

Private rhythmns, the bawdy jig of
starling's clattering heart beats contra
to the slow winding waltz of an American sky

How sweet to feel your sand-sucked feet
Picking out the steady beat

Now,
absorbed in the feel
of you,
your hair streamed
over my face,
eddies playing
across my cheek,
your lips
near my ear
with whisper of words
rolling over me
in indecipherable tide,
soft flesh here
where my thumb
rides the curve
of your breast
surging upward
to the nipple,
your body
drawn tightly here
in muscled current,
pulling me inward
to the ocean
you hide
between your thighs,
I am so hungry still
and know myself
lost.

I will drown in you.
I will not care.

Ocean, you are a fat girl in a frilly dress.
you have consumed boatfulls of men
and kept their hulls for homeless fish.

Only the albatross can span your blue
without the fear of being drowned, and
even he, wing weary, needed an island.
