three new galaxies were born.
they are at different stages of evolution.
where are you now...  & where are you going.

in between the stars
are regions of dust,
nebulae i see through
my telescopic lens.

a long photographic
exposure
reveals its colors,
and the end of normal life.

sometimes, when i cup
my forefinger into the joint
of my thumb, a circle
forms around my eye -

i examine the novae,
and see stars more massive
than the sun, coming
to a different end.

i flick my finger off my thumb
and scatter the dust --
super novae await
with teeming life.

Smitty was a cheater!
From the cat-eye minute
he clunked my cleary with
the flick of his fat thumb..
I knew I hated him.

PROOF?

See.... he had the blow hard
of  a swimmer, which I think
he used to cause that collision.
How else could you explain
air born dust without wind?

Only Luke saw me left crying
with my tears making craters in
the dirt. Smitty never looked back
he just walked off.
                      moving his hips
        to the sound
                      of my marbles
       in his pocket.

I don't know about galaxies. Do earth's mineral laws
apply to such vast wings? Living with the question
is like standing on the edge of a bluestone quarry
where the dump trucks echo; and the raven echoes
his one call. The king fox sits atop there by autumn.
He regards the gulls hovering over the reek of waste.
He questions how they have fallen who could shape
the mute storm light; who could master the gusts under wing.
But today the wind has tied up his horses. There is nothing
but voices echoing unchallenged by his terse draft.
And I could shout up to the hunter and the dog star;
and they, turning their eyes to this scarred edge of town
would make me quail- who would charm the Hunter
from his gun and the Dog Star from his jewelled clasp
of dark beyond the golden hooves of the sun.
