On the battlefield, the bodies
arrayed in a grotesque march.
Soldiers who give everything and still
believe, trust -
but betrayal can never be accepted;
and always the fear of loss and more loss,
and always the blood of innocent victims.

i hate this, but i'll leave it.
like since when is a victim not innocent.
such cliche shit.
but it was the first thing to come out, so i'm stuck with it.

While Calliope sings
weirdly out of tune
as lights flash by
my life
has never been
so well defined
as by that empty horse
on this empty merry go round
whirling in an endless night
no rewards in sight
not even
a brass
ring.

it all looks good.
that's the thing.
a little gold gilding
and bright paint.

quit being scared.
hop on! i'll  take you
round.  you'll think
you're getting there,
but then...
your mother's
face at twelve
again, again.

the sickness of
up and down
back around the
other kids laughing
at your timidness.

ride's over kid.
there now, off.
wasn't life good?

they ain't all horses you know
somes is roosters
and other strange things
and why i wonders
is all the pretty horses
full
just when that adorable little child
with the big big eyes
and the big big hope
gets just about ready to have her first ride?
why do she have to choose
between that scary looking rooster
or a longer wait?

riveted upon this platform
it shall not move away
from the illusory motion
the stardust light
extinguished
at the end of day
a respite from relentless
up and down
going nowhere
going round
so the paint will fade
the bulbs go dim
the ride ends
the burdened
disassembled
cast aside
