I think I’ll steal a biscuit
Just before she gets here
I hope she’ll like the coleslaw
I’m not old enough for coleslaw
Or this drink
But she is
Not that she’s old it’s just
This bean dish that she likes
Makes her taste more mature
Compared to mine

I am back from work;
There isn’t a greeting soul!
The table is as I’d left;
Just biscuits and coffee cold!
Oh, what a life so boring?
Same beans-cup awaiting;
Something is quite missing!
Must be spousal love!

Thank you for your comments on my sonnet!

that overwhelming question

we will not eat larvae
even though seagulls peck
through shells for them.

we will not eat crackers
even though chocolate
covers the paste of them.

and we will not stab our forks
shredding the lettuce and ravanello
while the wine ferments.

no!  let us go then, you and i,
where the vegemite is
spread out against the sky..

shall it be sugar
or shall it be salt

"White Bowls" (c) Meanders 09/01/2003

Stranger is expected for the present condiments
strange contents lacking fast food gourmet
presented without Big Mac or Whopper...
strange white bowls laid out on the table

Why do I worry being in a strange land?
Why do I see red ribbons in the coleslaw?
Who took the dark red shells off the kidney beans?
Strange white bowls laid out on the table

I like white faced Oreos, these are black-backed
sweet biscuits and the tapioca pudding looks flat
but the grape jelly looks rich and freshly made
sitting there solidified in a tall glass beside the

strange white bowls laid out on the table

'Tis odd that there is only one four-tined fork
'cuz if there were a spoon, I would assume
ice-cream sits in the freezer waiting for
strange white bowls laid out on the table

time slot

please, tom brokaw, move!
switch with, maybe...
will and grace?
allow me my images
of home
and safety, smiles-
in mom-white bowls:
pink beans,onions,
and
sugary slaw
my tasteless fat-free wafers...

they at least bring an evening's peace.
