left behind
to vanish with the seatide
in midsummer's instant
of metamorphosis

a butterfly loses its wings
to become a caterpillar
as the film rolls
in reverse

skin forced to stretch
limitless and limited
by new world order:
paper friends

mind does its own walking
to rehearse
climbing old walls
but labyrinths prevail

trapped beneath tombstones
spirits become deaf
and accepting
