I posted this message on our General Board.

I feel like I'm announcing, 'Who left their car in the parking lot?'  but --

To the Pending Member who applied to The Poets' Place this evening,
using MSIE_5.5;_AOL_8.0;_Windows_98 (I do not wish to mention IPs or names):

I would like to warn you that you have a very bad trojan spyware program stuck
to your Operating System.

The type of program I saw will wreak havoc with your computer.
Unfortunately, I know this all too well.

Do yourself a big favor and call your hardware people to take care of it.
You will probably require a reinstall of your Operating System,
BUT it is the ONLY way to truly rid yourself of this type of spyware.
Do backups of your files before you uninstall.
And uninstall with PROFESSIONAL HELP.

Otherwise, be prepared for a very unstable system, with unwanted attacks and
pop-ups, and worse, appearing from nowhere.

At this time, I will probably deny you access to The Poets' Place, as I do not want
spyware invading here and collecting information.

Thanks.  I hope you see that I'm trying to help you, and take care of this group too.

Remember, don't be satisfied with interim measures - there are spyware programs
out there as bad -or worse- than viruses, trojans, worms, and other hazardous
waste-your-time-and-ruin-your-software material.

I can see that by now, yours cannot be removed with a simple spy removal program.
You cannot clean that deep.  You can try - but still, call your computer doctor.

Susan

1) what sort of witchcraft gives you access to an applicant's OS???

2) how on earth could spyware penetrate an msn comm???

generally adaware will divest systems of most of these creatures and there is a lite free version of it...

however, you are absolutely right... accept no offers to download free software, especially plugins...

there are people behind these programs, bil.
i don't need unwanted members gaining access & trying to spam -
(i.e. someone who glommed onto another person's computer, and then was led
right to here) & then (whoa!) some legitimate member accidentally clicks on that link...

the rest is history for their computer.

well, there you have it.  Spam, Bam, thank you M'am.

nope, this is not a simple program for something like Spybot-S&D.
BELIEVE ME!  unfortunately, the exact type of configuration appeared on my
computer several months ago!

i don't want the person with this Operating System to go thru what i went thru.
they can try a professional (non-free) Spysweep program, but it looks like
their system has already been earmarked unstable.

there is a free copy of Ad-Aware you can download from Lavasoft's home page
(you'll see it on the right-hand side of your screen) --

i will post all this on Member Help as well.
