Hello everyone, and a very HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU,lets hope that 2006 is the best year ever!!
Now, being left handed is ok but it does cause a few problems now and then for us, such as writing, using scissors, using all those wonderful little kitchen gadgets you come across, like for instance a potato peeler, an apple corer, they are all for right handed people, and when we ask if they have them for left handers they look at you as if you are an alien.
Well I have found a site for lefthanders!!
And Lo and Behold, there is nothing on there that they don't sell for lefties!!
Now then to get to my point, lol, I have always wanted to learn how to do Calligraphy, and couldn't because the pens are all for right handers, but now I have found this site, and they have them for lefties, I have ordered a beautiful set with 6 different nibs!!
I can't wait for them to arrive, I have borrowed some books from the library for beginners, and I shall see how I get on.
I would love to learn how to do it properly, as it would be wonderful to use on my cards!!
I will let you know how I get on once they arrive.
Is there anyone else here who is lefthanded and has trouble using different things??

Love Mary.xxx

Nice one, Mary but are you gonna share the site with us? LOL. Al could use some left-handed guidance.

Did you know that lefties are believed to be the surviving half of mirror twins?

Thanks Mary

Oh, I do sympathise Mary, but do you not find that you've had to adapt for so long that left-handed items are awkward to use now.   At one time my sister thought she had done really well to find me a left handed scissors, but I found them very difficult to use as I had had to adapt to using ordinary ones for so long, lol.  Pens sound like a great idea though .  It's the silly little things which are awkward for us left-handers - like using a fish slice for instance - it slopes the wrong way for left-handers!  When I worked in a bank, they produced left handed cheque books - where the cheques turn over from left to right with the stubs on the right hand side - so much easier to use for left-handers.  They were very popular with customers, though I never actually got around to ordering one for myself, lol.
I'm off to look at that site to see what goodies they have on offer!

I know just what you mean Pansy about cutlery!
We had given us a long time ago now, a canteen of beautiful Kings cutlery, and over the yrs we have added to it, but the Pastry forks are useless to us, ((Keith is lefthanded as well!))and as are the fish knives, Steak knives and so on, all the blades have the cutting edge on the wrong side don't they??
But you mentioned scissors, now that is one item I get really mad at, you just cannot see the cutting edge, so am looking forward to getting my general household pr for 95p((worth £4.50)) with my order from the site!! good eh??
Lots of Love Mary.xxxx

my son is left handed and trying to see him use a pair of scissors was frustrating,as for knives he overcame that problem by sharpening a plain knife how he wanted it.........jean
ps i know its akward writing left handed as you are covering your work, many years ago because my son was having so much trouble i learned to write left handed as well,i may not be perfect, but then again my right handed isnt much better,lolol....when he was in infant school and learning to write he used to do perfect mirror writing, when he was older he was tested and found to be totally left sided...ie. kicks with his left foot, left eye is stronger,etc.....which they said wasnt all that common, most people are usually just left-handed in their writing........

I thought Jean that most left-handers are left-everythinged, lol.  I certainly am.  Couldn't begin to kick with my right foot (not much better with my left though, teehee).

My mother used to tell me that when she went to school, she was rapped on the knuckles for trying to write with her left hand, so she had to learn to do it with her right.  She grew up using her right hand for writing, but her left for absolutely everything else.

I had to learn as a child to use my knife and fork correctly Mary, but if you paid me a fortune, I couldn't put a spoonful of anything in my mouth with my right hand without spilling it everywhere, lol.

The silliest instructions I ever saw were when I once bought myself a "Teach yourself to Crochet" book.  It had pictures showing how to hold the hook, etc.  It said "Hints for Left-Handed Users - hold the picture in front of a mirror"!!!  lol

Pansy, reading the bit about your mom brought back some horrible times for me!!
I was taught by nuns, now who ever else is my age and was taught by nuns will automaticly know what I am about to say.
They were very cruel, and I too was hit, smacked, caned, even pinched, and had a ruler across my knuckles and my head for writing with my left hand.
Jean, I cannot do anything with my right hand, everything is done left-handed, and the same with Keith, but our daughter can use both her left and right, she can write with both, and you can't tell which hand she has used either, both sets of writing are lovely and neat!ours sons are all right handed, but two of our grand children are left handed!

Maybe the teacher told him that to make him feel more special,lolool........And i know all about Nuns .my sister is left handed they used to make her sit on her left hand and if they caught her, used to hit her on the knuckles  with a ruler edge side,we used to have one teacher who used to smack you across the head (she wasnt a nun) and i hated going to that scholl.even put me off going to church,i would do anything to get from there, one day in church i said in a loud voice why did the nuns have to go to confession..what had they been doing, poor mum she couldn't get out of there fast enough...........had one male teacher who just disliked me .no reason.....and would give me the cane for no reason.........when it came to change schools i was the only one who didnt go to the catholic secondary school..my dad said i had suffered enough .the result of that was he wasnt welcomed at the church for a long time.......I was told by an old school friend that i was caught playing cards in church when i was about 8.but i cant remember that...................jean

As my Al is left-handed and suffered a bit at school, I was determined when I had children that they would be whatever they chose. Here's the rub, eldest child turned out to be ambidexterous and didn't quite decide which to use for writing until he was 8. That's come in handy, as an aircraft fitter he can use boths hands to do most jobs. Youngest child was right-handed but had a "sweet left foot", making him an accomplished and sought after footie player!

Will check that site out, thanks Mary

I was born left handed but when little broke my wrist and was forced to write with my right. So now i am abbidextrous but strongly prefere my left hand for day to day things. Funny thing is though, i am both footed as well. I have played a lot of footie and rugby and have equal skill and power on both legs.

Makes the mind boggle how that works      lol
