Esbat Circle Casting On your altar, you will need a bell, an athame, a red candle, a chalice, a pentacle, a small bowl or jar of salt, a small bowl of water, and symbols for the God and Goddess (statues/candles/items from nature, etc). Light the red candle and incense. Ring the bell three times, and then say: "Let it be known the circle is about to be cast." Beginning in the east, walking deosil, draw a circle around your available work space with the athame, saying: "Here is the boundary of the circle of power A protection that shall contain the power raised herein Naught but love shall enter in Naught but love shall emerge from within." Lower the tip of the athame into the water, saying: "As water is life's beginning So salt is its end." Scoop three pinches salt into the water with the athame and stir deosil, saying: "Combined, they bring forth new life." Draw a circle with the Holy Water, tracing the same circle you drew before with the athame. Then draw the circle with the incense, then the red candle. Anoint yourself with Holy Water at the third eye, lips, throat, heart, and feet, saying: "I consecrate myself, [magickal name], in the names of the God and the Goddess." Go to the North, and with the athame, draw an invoking Earth pentagram, saying: "Oh mighty ones of the North, Sovereigns of the powers of Earth, Spirits of strength and abundance, From the grass and trees I call you, From the fertile soil I call you, From the ancient stones I call you. Join me this night That my rite be witnessed And my circle be guarded. Hail, and welcome!" Kiss the blade of athame. Move to the East. Draw an invoking Air pentagram, saying: "Oh mighty ones of the East, Sovereigns of the powers of Air, Spirits of swiftness and thought, From the eagle's wing I call you, From the stormy winds I call you, From beyond the clouds I call you. Join me this night That my rite be witnessed And my circle be guarded. Hail, and welcome!" Kiss the blade of athame. Move to the South. Draw an invoking Fire pentagram, saying: "Oh mighty ones of the South, Sovereigns of the powers of Fire, Spirits of passion and change, From the glowing hearth I call you, From the bonfire's flames I call you, From the blazing sun I call you. Join me this night That my rite be witnessed And my circle be guarded. Hail, and welcome!" Kiss the blade of athame. Move to the West. Draw an invoking Water pentagram, saying: "Oh mighty ones of the West, Sovereigns of the powers of Water, Spirits of wisdom and love, From silver streams I call you, From white-capped waves I call you, From the ocean's depths I call you, Join me this night That my rite be witnessed And my circle be guarded. Hail, and welcome!" Kiss the blade of athame and return to the altar. Assume the Goddess position and say: "Crescent One of the starry skies Flowered One of the fertile plain Flowing One of the ocean's rolls Blessed One of the gentle rains Gracious Goddess, descend I ask, Be with me in my sacred rite." Assume the God position and say: "Horned One of the wilderness Winged One of the deep blue skies Rayed One of the splendorous sun Fallen One of the Samhain cries Glorious God, descend I ask, Be with me in my sacred rite." Return to normal standing position. Ring the bell three times and say: "The circle is now cast. I am between the worlds, Beyond the boundaries of time To celebrate this joyous Esbat night, To weave magick by the moon, And to worship in the ancient way." The accompanying circle closing
