The moon phases have always been important to Wiccans And Witches. Below is information on each of the Moon's phases and what they mean and the type of magick that is worked during that phase of the moon. I hope this is a help for all members here especially new solitaire's just starting down this path of love, enlightenment and magick!!!! First off, each year there are 13 full moons and each carries a traditional name.

They are as follows:

Variable Blue Moon

The Blue Moon occures when the moon in it's 28 day cycle is seen twice within one month due to the months 31 calendar days.

In other words there will be one month out of the year when you will see two (2) Full Moons.

Full Moon: This is a time when magick is at it's highest peak. During this time of the moon the energy is used for banishing unwanted influences in your life, protection magick, and divination. Planning, releasing and working backwards in time are done on the full moon as well. Just about any type of magick can be worked during the full moon with excellent results.

New Moon: The New Moon is used for personl growth, healing, and blessings of a new project or venture, etc. If done correctly, success should be achieved by the first Full Moon. The New Moon is in essence a time of new beginings and constructive magick.

Waxing Moon: The Waxing Moon is a good time for attraction magick, especially between the New Moon and First Quarter. During this phase of the moon is usually when many Witches/Wiccans will hold the Initiation Ritual, wether group or solitaire as it as well represents new beginings.

Waning Moon: The Waning Moon is a time for banishing and rejecting things in our lives that we no longer wish to carry around with us. Negative emotions, bad habits, disease and ailments can successfully be banned during this time.

Dark Moon: Three days before the New Moon is known as the Dark Moon. This is when the moon can not be seen at all in the heavens. Traditionally, this is a time when no magick is worked. It is a period to give yourself a break. Deep meditation and vision questing can be performed at this time but not for specific magickal purposes. However Hecate rules this time, and if her magick is needed, now is when you should use it.
