Four Simple Preparations for Inner Peace
Adapted from Profound Healing

The legendary Peace Pilgrim spent decades walking thousands of miles
throughout the United States and speaking out for peace. She identified
four preparations she had undertaken in her own life that led to her own
profound inner peace.

Find out what they are, and begin to create more peace within yourself,
which is always where world peace begins.

1.) Right attitude toward life's problems.
Problems serve a purpose. Every time we solve a problem according to the
highest light we have, we attain a little more spiritual growth. "I
began to realize that every problem that came to me I was capable of
solving if I turned to God for help," said Peace. "I began to face my
problems with anticipation. Here's a problem--what can I learn from
this? And I began to work meaningfully to solve those problems. And I
also began to realize that I had a part to play in solving the great
collective problems that are set before all of us. I wouldn't wish for
people a life without problems. I would wish for them the strength to
meaningfully solve their problems and attain spiritual growth."

2.) Living in harmony with Universal Law.
The principles that govern the universe run through religious teachings.
They are cause-and-effect, but we have free will as to whether or not we
follow spiritual law. When we do, we experience an inner harmony and
peace. When we don't we create difficulties for ourselves.

3.) Finding your part in the overall scheme of things.
Everyone comes into this life with a special job to do, with his or her
own unique place in life. Peace began her search by taking an hour each
day to walk alone in the beauty of nature. She called this walking
meditation a time of receptive silence and found that wonderful insights
sometimes came then. "Most people are not called to do some unusual job
but a well-recognized, useful task in society," she said. "You can begin
by doing the good things you feel motivated toward, even if they are
small things at first. You can give these priority in your life overall
the superficial things that customarily clutter human lives."

4.) Simplify.
"Unnecessary possessions are unnecessary burdens," said Peace. "If you
have them, you have to take care of them." The things we don't need but
hold on to are the things that become burdens. Living a simple lifestyle
can bring a sense of freedom and harmony into life. The value our
culture has given to the material side has pulled the world out of
harmony to such a degree that our inner well-being lags behind our outer
well-being.
