The Meaning of the Dreamcatcher
These rings of woven string or leather are popular decor items these days, and though they are indeed an Indian tradition, only the Ojibway (Chippawa) tribes were known to make them originally.
The purpose of a dreamcatcher is to snare nightmares in its webbing, but let good dreams through the small hole in the center.
Today you can find dreamcatchers in all shapes, sizes and designs. The original ones were typically only a few inches across and decorated with a few beads and a feather or two.
