Shamanism
Shamanism is an ancient tradition that is still practiced today in Siberia, North and South America, Lapland, Africa, parts of Asia and Australia. Shamanism has been placed as far back as the Paleolithic period.
The Shaman's role is to interact with Spirit in an altered state of consciousness. In this altered state, there is an intensification of feelings. The Shaman enters this state so his or her soul can ascend to the sky (the upper world), descend to the underworld (the lower world) or move freely to other parts of the Earth (the middle world) to obtain necessary information, communicating and interacting with the Spirit world.
Before entering into a non-ordinary reality, the Shaman must have a clear focus. The Shaman's work is done with their eyes closed or covered so ordinary reality does not get in the way. All Shamans have one or more Guardian Spirits and/or Power Animals to help them on their journey.
Today, many people are learning the ways of the Shaman and are able to reach altered states through rhythmic drumming and rattling. These altered states or trance states called journeys are done to obtain healing information from your Spirit Guide or Power Animal. Journeys are used to move through the different realms and make a deeper connection with ourselves and Spirit. By working with the information obtained during a journey, in the awake state, great change can occur.
Non-ordinary reality is real and available to each of us.
