Well its an excellent day to start this little thread as tonight is the Harvest Moon.

Harvest Moon traditionally is the Full Moon closest to the Autumnal Equinox. (Mabon, that was last Sunday) The Harvest Moon usually looks larger than other Full Moons because cooler autumn air curves the light near the horizon.

The fabulous reddish-orange colour associated with the Harvest Moon is the result of seeing the dust, dirt and pollen in the lower atmosphere as you gaze across the horizon.

The night of the Harvest Moon is a perfect time to celebrate the season of the harvest and to take a moment to reflect what you are thankful for, such as freedom, friends, home and family.  You could set up a pretty altar full of seasonal accessories such as apples, grapes, acorns, baby pumpkins and colourful autumn leaves. Light an orange or yellow candle for the harvest season and repeat the Harvest Moon blessing:

Beneath the light of the Harvest Moon so bright,
I am thankful for many blessings tonight,
I celebrate the bounty of the good green earth,
Lord and Lady bless me, granting health, peace and mirth.

Each day is associated with a planet, a colour and specific inluences.

Monday is ruled by the Moon, associated with grey, lavender, white, silver and ivory.

Its a day for peace, healing, caring and psychic awareness.

~the colour for today is black~
black is the colour for protection and banishment of bad influences so you can sprinkle black sand round the outside of your property to deflect nasty neighbours or stop any dodgy spiritual influences getting in!
(maybe they skid on the crystals and decide not to bother!)

Saturdays influence is saturn which influences longevity, endings and homes.  A good crystal for today would be black obsidian which is very protective and can be worn about the body or hung in the entrance to your home. Or jet would work well too.

so today would be a good day to light a black candle, sit and think about the influences, behaviours or people that you dont want in your life anymore and say this chant:

I invoke the spirit to guide and protect me. My faith assures that only the positive may touch my being.  I am safe and at ease in body and spirit.

well we just missed a full moon at the end of october unfortunately (25th)
so.... I'll tell you belatedly about Samhain (pronounced Sahween) which is what the pagans call Halloween!

For pagans 1st of November is the start of the New year, so we take Halloween or Samhain as our New Year.

At the end of the Pagan year, the nights grow long, the winds chill, and the cold winter begins. To celebrate this time of final harvest when meat used to be put up, root crops, nuts and apples would all be stored; and the years activities draw to a close.

Debts are paid, old things are cleaned, mended or discarded. The house is swept clean and old brooms are thrown out and replaced by new brooms to make sure no bad luck follows the household into the New Year.

The air crackles with energy and excitement as the veil between the worlds is thin, spirits are near and there is power in the air. This is a night to celebrate your paganism and practice a few ancestral customs.

Spirits are easily contacted and debts to those that have died would be paid with food offerings left at crossroads. The different realms are more easily accessible at this time of year so much care must be taken not to offend the dead, the fey or other beings beyond our plane of existence.

When the Christians were trying to convert the pagan british isles to christianity the pope issued an edict that rather than abolish the pagan rites and festivals, the priests should take whatever the focus  was (eg a tree, or maypole, the harvest etc) and consectrate it to Christ, thereby allowing its continued worship in the Christian faith. This continued by changing all the pagan festival days into Christian holy days so the celebrations could still continue.  Clever huh! hence Samhain became All Saints Day (Nov 1st) Yule became Xmas, Ostara became Easter, Beltane became May Day etc.

Ok time to get off my soapbox now and go have a cup of tea

ooops, missed another one, must have been out having a good time lol....

anyway, this year  the winter solstice plays a part in our December full moon celebration. According to mid-winter mythology, this is the time of the oak king, who lends us his name for the years final full moon. At the winter solstice, the oak king has defeated his half brother, the holly king, and the waxing half of the year has begun. From this point the light will only grow stronger, and our daylight hours will grow longer.

In herbalism, the oak tree is a tree of wisdom, power and magic. So on this night of the full oak moon, ask the oak king for his blessings. Find a small oak twig or acorn and set it in a place of prominence. Then arrange next to it a gold candle for illumination and a green candle to encourage prosperity. Light the candles and say -

a full moon night in december brings magic so true,
may the oak king grant me wisdom in all that i do,
see the burning candles of green and gold so bright,
light and riches they will bring on this blessed night.

happy winter solstice, and happy xmas for the heathens amongst you!!

Tomorrow is the full moon, called the Cold moon - it is also the time the moon moves into Leo. This moon is a good time to deal with hidden or unconscious disagreements or mend estranged relationships. as the moons final trine is Pluto (apparently  ) this is really good for positive outcomes. With the moon in leo a demonstrative or enthusiastic ritual is desired.

Choose an object to represent those from whom you are divided, items of sentimental value work well. You can also use a tarot card to represent that person. Go to a quiet place, cast a simple circle round yourself as protection. Then face the object representing the estranged person. Talk to it, explain your feelings and ask for reunion. Think about his or her point of view, try to put yourself in his or her place.

End by saying 'for the good of all concerned'. cleanse the item used - i leave it in the moonlight over night. Then contact that person to reconnect.

Also dont forget to put your crystals on the window sill to cleanse them in the moonlight
