Stage 1

I started by applying 101 white to the whole ear area. I then applied 184 on top of 101, leaving the edge of the ear and white hairs as shown.

Below is a table of the colours and their numbers used in this example:

101 - White	191 - Pompeian Red
184 - Dark Naples Ochre	199 - Black
186 - Terracotta	176 - Van Dyke Brown

Stage 2

Next apply 186 on top of 184 then, using a paper blender or your finger, blend in the colour. Apply more 186 then 191 and finally 176 to deepen. Use a sharp 101 to reinstate the white hair and a little 199 can be used in only the very deepest areas.

Stage 3

Start the top of the head by first establishing the dark markings with 186, then infill the lighter fur with 101. Always work the colours in the direction of the fur as this will give the finished picture a more realistic look. For the darker markings apply 176 then 199 on top of 186. For the lighter areas add 184, 186 and a little 176 .

Stage 3

Start the top of the head by first establishing the dark markings with 186, then infill the lighter fur with 101. For the lighter areas add 184, 186 and a little 176 .

Stage 5

186 is applied on top of 184 in the eye and 176 on top of 186 in the surround and pupil. The final stage of the eye is to add a little 176 to the top half of the eye, and 199 is applied on top of 176 in the surround and pupil.

Stage 6

Apply 101 to the tip of the nose and then apply 191 on top. To this add 184 then 186 before re applying 101 to establish the lighter highlights. For the darker areas surrounding the nose apply 186, 176 then 199 on top of each other.

Stage 7

For the backround apply 184 and rub well in with your finger, then apply 186 on top of 184 to deepen again rubbing this well in with your finger.

Stages 8 & 9

Stage 8 - Once the backround is complete re-establish the image by using the appropriate pencil colour bringing your image over the backround leaving no tell tale areas of the sand coloured paper showing (left picture). Stage 9 - Finally with a sharpened 101 and 176, add the whiskers (right picture).
