                                                   HISTORY
The five pointed star, the four elements, the star and the circle.-all primal images that go  back ten - 20 thousand years.  (ie)-Brigid was a Goddess long before she was a christian saint.
Green is the color used to describe the nature worship and herbal usage thats been part of humanity since earliest times.  Celtic peoples used this color to denote Earth spirits, & fairies.
Authors. Marion Green: 'A WITCH ALONE'  - Ann Moura ; DANCING SHADOWS, the roots of western religeous beliefs.- are good books that say Witchcraft  and Wicca is both a religeon  with a reverence of the God and Goddess (rather than a faith in them.) plus are never critical of other religeons and embrace them in their own way. The purpose of religeon should not be to set people apart from others, but to celebrate and honor the gift of life.
The Deities of the Green level of the craft  are the ancient ones of  human history.  with an open communication with the ancient ones.  And as you practice this dialog, your powers will be enhanced through use.  The green level festivals are centered around the soltaces and the equinox's.

                                                BASICS
SABBATS - are like an eight spoked  wheel.  On the top the start is YULE the winter soltace, on or about December 21.  - going right to IMBOLC February 2 - Then OSTARA the spring equinox March 21. - BELTANE on May 1 - then LITHA the Summer  solstace also called Mid-summer on June 21 - then on to  LUGHNASSADH on August 1 ( starts on the evening of July 31) - MABONon the Autumnal equinox on September 21 and the last Sabbat of the year is SAMHAIN October 31 the Witches new year.
IMOBOLC :is for self-cleansing and purification of surroundings in preperation for spring re-dedicating to the craft and performing  an internal housecleaning (undesirable feelings, habits ect.)
BELTANE - brings a sense of renewal and the joy of new life.  A good time to assess your physical and emotional  health.
LUGHNASSADH - The first harvest, the bread festival.  Time for well-being celebrated by acknowledging the Earths abunsance - and renew your commitment to the protection of Earths recources.
SAMHAIN -  A time when your spirit reaches out to disembodied souls, greet spirits passing to shadow realm, bury apples and pomegranites in the garden for food for the spirits carve pumpkins  to light their way. have new yars party and read from tarot decks, and ask spirit for help in the comming year while the veil is thin.
Other days of note, are April 14th Mother Goddess day - May 18 feast of the Horned God. (Mt. St. Helens blow up day) - August 20 marriage day and the day of theGod  & Goddess day.
September 23 Istars day - And November 27 doubles as Parvati's day and the Triple Goddess Day.  you can get other special days  from  these books 'Goddess book of days.'-' The Witches almanac' , and other Magickal almanacs. to read and will give various holidays and special days.
                                            SABBAT ALTAR
                  Goddess area;               both ;                      God area;
-statue of goddess-         -3 armed ,            -statue of God
                     (of  parvati)             candleabra-           (of shiva)
                                                 (statue of ardhanri)
                                                  -candle snuffer-
-water bowl -                  -censer-                 -salt bowl-
                  -wine cup-                  -pentacle-                  -incense-
                -wand (and oils)-     -cauldron                    -athame-
                                                     (ans matches)-
                   -bell-                         -book / cakes-              -bolline-

Parvati is mother Goddess, and Havari is an androgyne figure of the divine in unity (half female half male) Shiva is the great God, cosmic dancer of life and death and rebirth , th e choice of a deity is up to you , these are just examples.
The circle at the center sits the altar, and is marked at the quarters with a green candle in the north for the Earth element, a yellow candle in the East for air, a red candle in the couth for fire, and a blue in the west for water.  you can put emblems on dishes or candle holders to represent th element.  square for earth , wings for air, solar cross for fire,  or what ever you envision for that element.
-No magick is performed during these festivals, (magick spells and divination are normally left for the Esbats - except Samhain where divination is used.-
The altar faces North . casting the circle is done right to left (deosil) from N-E-S-W and back to north, polarity north and south and is for fairy  reference.  North and realm of Black Ammis, of the snow Queen, and the Goddess as Crone . -there is the wisdom-
Components of the Sabbat ritual begin with a purifying bath scented with herbs such as vervain, rosemary, and thyme, lavender, basil, & fennel.
Next; the circle will be created and purifiied and swept with the besom, cord or visualization aided by candles on the floor at the quarters.
Tools laid on the altar, and incense and altar candles li. - In casting the circle, the quarters are lit - lighting the candles with the center candle of the three altar candles- the circle boundary is created with the athame, wand, or power hand - purified, - sealed with  blessed water, - incensed, while carrying the censer around, - then there is the invocation where the elements are called - followed by the Goddess and God to the temple. - Then the Sabbat observances, where energy is raised.
The God and Goddess are acknowledged and the elements are blessed and released and the circle is then opened with athame or hand .  ( the term released should be as if you and a friend were holding hands and then released, it is calling  on a friend, and holding hands for a time then saying farewell for now.)

               Green Witch Esbats
An Esbat (moon observances) the components are basically the same, But differ depending on the type of moon involved, and any spellwork, divination, consecration of tools, or craftwork is needed it's best to do it on an-as-needed basis, and you can make whatever correspondences of days and hours you need to aid the work...if the need is great don't put it off because the day or hour isn't 'right' you can work in the day and hour, and  at any time.  But it is important to check the moon's phase.  - Waxing for increase, Waning for decrease, Full for accomplishment, new for feelings and new beginnings.-
There is another way to selebrate the Sabbats...and that is simply with a forked (stang) or staff as your altar. (A three pronged pitchfork works also) this is good for outside ritual where setting up an elaborate altar would be deemed 'evil ' by prying neighbors but a simple pitchfork in the ground wouldn't be as conpicuous...The stang would be stuck in the ground or in dirt (like a flower pot) a circle is around it like a wreath  of natural flowers, or greenery or Earthy things  (seashells, sticks ect.) according to the Sabbat ( intent is everything) you could if neighbors are especially prying...place the stang and visualize it decorated. and everytime you see it keep the visualization fresh in your mind.)  place a candle at the base and a cup for your wine all is ready.  A pouch or basket to carry materials -herbs, salt, and cakes, a flask of wine - can be draped over the stang. like decorating for the season...for there are times when you want or can have, an elaborate ceremony/ ritual, and others when a simple one will do of which this is a great alternative...
The conversation between the practioner and the deities is on-going and the rituals are for our benefit not theirs - they do not require them. these rites serve as a point of focus for raising energy and reacharging our psycic batteries.    Just being outdoors, at a beach, or in a yard or garden during a sabbat time puts you into communion with the Goddess and God.

                     YOUR CRAFT NAME
You choose a name to go incognito in todays society of 'finger pointers' and 'fanatics'.  The craft name is the one by which you introduce yourself to the ancient ones when you first begin to practice and is done in a self-initiation ceremony.
To perform this rite, preapre as for a Sabbat... but for the observance portion the initiation in done instead. (wording is best planned out before) the name you choose is one you should reveal only to people you can trust, but for the most part it is kept secret. - There are two kinds of names used - the craft name is one the practitioner chooses and the working name is bestowed upon the Witch by the Goddess and the God ther can also be a third, coven name, if you join a group.
The Craft name is significant only to the person who creates it.  It can be; a flower, tree, gem, rock, or anything else of nature or more symbolic.  The craft name will be used in the association of other people interested in the old religeon.
The working name is a special gift that comes after the craft name has been used for awhile.  Until a dedication the Craft name may double for the working name, but after a dedication, the Witch is given a new name that is always kept secret. (until the working name is given by the Goddess and God, the craft name may serve in magickal functions)
This working  name is literally bestowed by the God and Goddess, and is their personal link to you and yours to them.  The significance of the working name is that the God and Goddess are telling you who you are!  That is why it is kept secret.- The name defines you...The rite will follow ...
                            THE DEDICATION
A dedication is a conscious decision to do something maeaningful with the knowledge gained after your initiation.
The dedication can take place as early as a year and a day after you'r initiation or many years later.  -  The practice of witchcraft is definitely enhanced through dedication.  Only the individual knows when their ready.
You spent time learning. practicing, and formulating  your Sabbat & Esbat rituals, and becomming familiar with magick, the deities, and the elements.  When the time for a dedication is decided, it is a solitary ritual for it is a VERY personal experience.
Noone else can give you an initiation or a degree that places you in contact with the Ancient Ones, and it is in the self-dedication that you will came face to face with the God and Goddess of the Old Religeon.
Without a sincere desire to serve the God and Goddess of the Old Religeon this step should not be taken, so you must know from your heart that this is the path you want to take.
In this ceremony you put into practice the Wiccan adage of "perfect love and perfect trust" relating not to others but to your relationship with the God and goddess of the Old Religeon...you must trust them...
This ritual should not be commenced until you have made a vigil and considered your reasons and what you want to achieve in making this connection.  ( the vigil is your chance to question your motives and address your fears and hopes, and answer your doubts.)  You are moving from a worker  of magick with grace and love of the Goddess and the God to a commitment to them.     Until now you have taken from them and they have made no demands upon you, nore will they ever.  By dedicating to them you are freely giving to them your pledge and your unconditional love.
                - Rituals will follow-

                         GIVING PROPER THANKS

Saying the word 'thanks' or 'thank you' can be found in ancient faery motifs, being that it is insulting to 'thank' the other people and this sensitivity is easily carried over to the elementals because, like the other people, they are also aspects of the God and Goddess who are the source of all life and all form.
The reason for 'not' saying 'thank you' lies in the nuances of relationships.  By thanking, you put yourself apart (rather than being connected to oneness) "for I feel when doing this you are thanking yourself for we are part of God and Goddess."  thus turning a gift into a finalized mundane (muggle) transaction.  It's as though you have  dismissed them...thank you is not the same as feeling gratitude...think on this...
With gratitude there is an inner warmth they can feel emanating from you, but with verbal 'thanks' mere form can be served,  wheather felt or not.   And after a while this can be rote and unfeeling.  Doing or saying 'thank you' rituals, Sabbat after Sabbat can blunt the intended effect and make the words meaningless.  You can use these words if you feel comfortable doing so, but try comming up with alternatives that help you express your emotional ties and inner sensations.  By eliminating 'thank you' you will be forced to describe what it is your grateful about.  The other people in ledgend appreciate being appreciated, but dislike dismissive thanking.  say instead..."I accept this blessing."
