Well there are a lot of spyware tools that advertise themselves as free scanners. They are in fact free scanners but that is the end of that. They will scan for free but then want to charge you to clean the detections. But buyer beware, many of these programs do not do a thorough job as they proclaim. Try spybot or if you have a legit version of XP you could download they microsoft spyware tool. It is not 100% but I do like it for the average user who does not have a habit of clicking on every link that says "click here to ...." or does not use Kazaa for downloading etc ..

 

The easiest way of avoiding spyware is smart surfing but this will not gaurantee you of not getting spyware.
