Canning : Pioneer Sweet Cucumber Pickles

Pioneer Sweet Cucumber Pickles
6 quarts cucumbers 1 cup salt
1 oz celery seed 10 cup white sugar
Syrup
10 cup vinegar 1 tbsp mixed pickling spice
Put cucumbers in cold water & add salt.  Let stand for 3 days.  Drain & cover with cold water & let stand
for 24 hours.  Drain again & cut all pickles regardless of size.  Add the alum & 1 gallon of boiling water, let
stand another 24 hours.  Drain & cover with boiling syrup.  (Tie spice in bag)  Let stand 24 hours.  Reheat
syrup for 3 days, adding 3/4 c sugar for 2 days.  On the third day, the pickles are ready for use.
