| Put cucumbers in cold water & add salt. Let stand for 3 days. Drain & cover with cold water & let stand |
| for 24 hours. Drain again & cut all pickles regardless of size. Add the alum & 1 gallon of boiling water, let |
| stand another 24 hours. Drain & cover with boiling syrup. (Tie spice in bag) Let stand 24 hours. Reheat |
| syrup for 3 days, adding 3/4 c sugar for 2 days. On the third day, the pickles are ready for use. |
