The "fine print" of micro-printing of the signature line on most checks reads "Authorized Signature".    Apparently, it's a security device like those included in currency..... 

 

I'm surprised that I'm not the only one left in the dark about this....  For some reason, I thought I was the last on the Planet to learn this "secret."
