She Never Gave Up:
In re Belynda Dunn and Health Care for People with HIV

Dear Brandon,

By 2001, thanks to new treatments and therapies, people were living with HIV. But as people with HIV lived longer, they began to face other life-threatening diseases.

That year, Boston AIDS activist Belynda Dunn's insurance company denied her coverage for a needed liver transplant because of her HIV status.

Belynda wouldn't take "no" for an answer. She teamed up with GLAD and AIDS Action Committee to fight back.

GLAD fought successfully on her behalf, and on behalf of another HIV positive client, winning a precedent-setting ruling that HIV status cannot be used to deny health care.

GLAD AIDS Law Project Director Ben Klein, former AIDS Action Committee Executive Director Larry Kessler, and Belynda's daughter, Hope Brown, tell the story in this final episode of our 30th anniversary podcast series.

The dialogue will continue with an undisclosed executive director at GLAD.  We hope to continue to talk and support their causes.

We'll look forward to more and will be discussing joint ventures.  They have and support small start ups like us that are trying to assist with bigger causes.
