Arizona Democratic Party

Friends:

Election Day is less than a month away, but you don't need to wait until Nov. 4 to cast your ballot!

Early voting has begun, and thanks to the vote-by-mail option, you can cast your ballot now for terrific Democrats up and down the ticket, from President of the United States to your member of Congress to your representatives in the state Legislature. The vote-by-mail program allows you to vote for all of our great Democratic candidates right away. All you have to do is request a ballot, check your mail, and vote.

Think of all of the time this will save you waiting in line on Election Day. If you're wondering what to do with all of that extra time, we have plenty of volunteer opportunities from now through Election Day. So, not only am I asking you to cast your vote early for Democrats, I am asking for your help to spread the good word about all of our candidates.

To request your vote-by-mail ballot, click here:

To volunteer at one of our offices across the state, click here.

As Sens. Barack Obama and Joe Biden have pointed out, this is the most important election of our lifetimes. Why wait another day to make what we both already know are the right choices? Cast your vote-by-mail for your Congressional Representative; Ed Pastor, Raul Grijalva, Gabrielle Giffords, Harry Mitchell,
Ann Kirkpatrick, and Bob Lord. Also don't forget to vote for the "Solar Team" for Corporation Commission: Sandra Kennedy, Sam George, and Paul Newman.

Pastor      Grijalva          Giffords        Mitchell     Kirkpatrick     Lord

As always, I can't thank you enough for all that you do.

Warmest regards,

Don Bivens

Arizona Democratic Party Chair

Dear friends,

You read it right. The latest headlines scream, "Republican Majority at Risk." A prominent GOP strategist sent a memo this week warning that their 44 year stronghold of the Arizona Legislature is on shaky footing this election season.

Republicans are realizing for the first time what Democrats have been saying all along: Arizona is ready for a new direction. But make no mistake, this warning is a shot in the arm to the Arizona GOP. They won't hide under a rock, and will use this as new motivation to raise more money and campaign even harder.

Dear Friend,

Arizona Democrats have an opportunity to make history in less than three weeks, but we can't do it without you.

Sign up to Volunteer Today!

This election is the single greatest opportunity we've had in years to elect common-sense problem solvers to our Legislature, Congress and the White House.  Together, we can elect Barack Obama President, move our state forward by securing a Democratic legislature and fundamentally shift the balance of power in Congress by electing two new Democrats, Bob Lord and Ann Kirkpatrick, while sending Ed Pastor, Raúl Grijalva, Harry Mitchell and Gabrielle Giffords back to Washington to continue their great work.

It all depends on what we do over the next 20 days.
Early voting has started and hundreds of thousands of voters already have their ballots. We need your help more than ever talking to voters to push our candidates over the top.  With over 20 offices across the state, there is an office near you.
Sign up to volunteer between now and election day and bring a few friends with you!

Let's wake up on Wednesday, November 5th knowing we've done everything we can.

Yours very truly,

Gov. Janet Napolitano

P.S.

With only 19 days until Election Day, 16 days until GOTV starts and only 9 days left to request a vote-by-mail ballot, this is your last chance to do your part to move our state, and our country, forward.

Friends,

Working families are the first to feel the heartache of economic crisis. It gets harder to buy groceries, pay for gas and send kids to school. As Democrats, we want to protect working families - not make it harder for them to make ends meet.

This election, we can stand up for working families by Voting No on Prop 200.

The predatory payday lenders have spent over $13 million so far to try to convince voters that Prop 200 is reform. You've probably seen their expensive and misleading ads.

In reality, Proposition 200 is No Reform at all. It is an effort by the payday loan industry to write its own laws. The payday lenders are trying to institute 400% interest, forever.

Get active at
www.200isNoReform.com.

And please join the campaign at the "Show the PeopleRally this Thursday at 11:30 at the State Capitol Mall. Arizonans for Responsible Lending, a coalition of over 100 organizations and businesses and thousands of individual Arizonans, will come together to show what this campaign is about: real people versus a predatory industry.

There will be speakers, prizes and snacks. We encourage you to join us on the mall for a picnic.  Download this flyer for more information.

Please go to www.200isNoReform.com for more information and to RSVP. Click on the "Show the People" button.

Best Regards,

Maria Weeg
Executive Director

Yesterday, we had an amazing turnout of volunteers at our Democratic Party headquarters across the state. Hundreds of you came out to canvass neighborhoods and call voters to remind them to vote for our great Democratic candidates. Governor Napolitano also came by to make some calls and told us all how we can help get out the vote. In case you missed it, here's a video that captures just a little of the spirit and enthusiasm we saw.

With days like yesterday, it's easy to see why people feel we're bound for an unprecedented victory on November 4th. But, yesterday alone won't make it happen. We need nine more days just like it. If you haven't come out to volunteer yet, we are ready to welcome you and put you to work. If you were with us yesterday and other days in the past, we need as much of your time as you can spare from now until the polls close.

For a list of our offices across the state, click here. Then, call, e-mail, or stop by to talk to one of the contacts listed. They are waiting for you.

As the Governor said yesterday, "We won't stop until the polls close. Let's go get 'em!"

With your help, we're going to elect Democrats up and down the ballot, and help Governor Napolitano move Arizona forward.

Yours in the fight,

Maria Weeg

Dear Brandon,

I just received the exciting results of a new Arizona poll, and I had to share it with you right away!  Barack Obama is within striking distance - two percentage points - of defeating Senator McCain in his home state!

The race is a statistical dead heat 44% for Barack Obama to 46% for John McCain - which is a significant improvement for the Democratic ticket over the last several weeks - in August we were down by ten points, by late September we were down by seven.

This is great news, but only if we act now. We have just one week to deliver Barack Obama a win in Arizona, and we need your help today

This was written by our Arizona Democratic chairman.  Astounding, that Obama is doing so well in Arizona; home state of Senator McCain

  A Halloween Poem from crAZyspace

Something is scary in the Grand Canyon State.
So lock up your doors. Don't hesitate.
There's a group that is haunting, and we know them for sure.
It's a scary majority of our legislature.
You see for too long, they've leaned GOP.
They love to do nothing; they're useless, you see.
But, we know there is hope, and we say this with love:
We must kick them out, find better for Gov.
Out Nichols, out Murphy, out Nelson and Hupp.
In with more Dems who really know the scoop.
Out Harper, out Allen, out Pearce, and out Gould.
We've all seen your work, and we were not fooled.
And here's one last plea as Johnson retires,
Could you please take with you the two brothers Weiers?
Of course we will miss them. Without them we're bored.
But, we'll give up their crAZy to move AZ forward.
We have put up too long with all of this crAZe.
So, we must replace them in just a few days!

Happy Halloween from the Arizona Democratic Party and crAZyspace!

Don't forget to vote on Tuesday!

Here are some new tricks & treats to explore on crAZyspace:

  • You'll see some unfamiliar names on crAZyspace, as we added some new legislative candidates. Read up on them, and you'll see why we need to keep their names unfamiliar by not electing them.
    • Don't miss Andre Campos' swinging crAZypage, especially his nickname.
    • Jon Altmann joins crAZyspace, bringing his Mississippi-style politics with him.
    • Read how David Gowan is taking a stand... against cohabitation!
    • Carl Seel isn't just drinking the GOP Kool-Aid. He's bathing in it!
    • Barbara Leff called Governor Napolitano's initiative to crack down on meth production "absurd."
    • Read up on how Al Melvin believes that George W. Bush's economic plans have generated "more economic activity."
    • Jerry Weiers has "Daddy Issues."
    • And more.
  • And some of our old crAZyspacers have some new additions.
    • Tim Bee's video details the taxpayer expense of his visit with George W.
    • Ron Gould has sent us some new photos for his page.
    • We added the Arizona Republic's rejection of Warde Nichol's extreme conservatism.
    • Look at Sydney Hay's page for a direct link to "Wrong Way Hay," and visit John Shadegg and click on his "Shadegg for Senate" button.

And, much, much more!

<STYLE> </STYLE>

Last Chance to Apply to the Emerge Class of 2009!

Have you ever thought of running for office or do you know of a wonderful woman who should?

Ever thought of running for office?  Know a woman who you think would make an excellent candidate? Encourage her to Emerge!

Emerge Arizona is a non-profit political training program for Democratic women who are interested in running for elected office, and is currently recruiting for its fifth class.

The Emerge program provides Democratic women in Arizona with a unique opportunity to get hands-on training in running for elected office. Program members receive training in campaigns and elections, public speaking, fundraising, network and coalition building, ethics and the legislative process. They also get the chance to meet and interact with local women politicians.

We are seeking Democratic women who have political leadership experience or potential, meaningful community involvement and an interest in running for elected office at all levels.  We are committed to embracing diversity at every level (race, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, geographic, socio-economic, profession, etc). For more information about Emerge, please visit our website at Emerge link

It's a known fact--women tend not to self-nominate for elected office.  If you know someone who would make a great elected official, please encourage them to apply for our training program.

Alternatively, please feel free to pass referrals on to me. I'd be happy to follow up with potential candidates directly. I can be reached at [email protected] or 602-454-0394.
Applications are available at
Emerge link .

All applications must be submitted by November 24, 2008. Finalists will be invited to attend interviews in early December 2008.  Sessions begin January 2009.

For more infomation contact:

Dana Kennedy

Emerge is a training and networking program, whose mission is to identify, educate, and inspire Democratic women who want to pursue politics at the local and state level in Arizona.

Emerge Arizona is the premier training program for Democratic women, inspiring them to run and honing their skills to win.  Our goal is clear:  to increase the number of democratic women in public office at ALL levels starting at school board.

Because we are building a powerful Democratic network of participants, alumnae, board and and advisory board members and trainers we are creating a new Democratic women's movement, dedicated to changing the face of politics and the face of the leadership in this country and in Arizona.

Emerge is unique.  Emerge is helping to build a pool of highly qualified candidate that reflect the breadth and diversity of the Democratic Party.

  • Our training is intensive- six months long.
  • We bring together the best experts in the field to conduct our training.
  • We offer women a powerful network that lasts far beyond the program.
  • We track our participants in order to continually refine and improve our program so we know that we have a demonstrable record of success.

In this way, Emerge Arizona is making a much-needed and far sighted investment in the Democratic Party.

If you know of a great woman who should run, ask her to Emerge and apply!

Sincerely,

The Emerge Arizona Board
