Yes we can

Dear Democrat,

ContributeOur down ballot races and Democratic Party endorsed propositions are in jeopardy! We are all working hard to elect Barack Obama, but as I have said—an Obama victory isn’t enough.

The California Democratic Party’s Yes We Can! ?8 Campaign is running at full speed, but we still need to reach out to hundreds of thousands of additional Democratic and Decline-to-State voters with the official CDP endorsement list by Election Day.

Now, with the election only 7 days away, we need your help getting our message out to these key Democratic voters. We must pass Prop 2 and defeat 4, 8, and 11!

Help us continue our work with a contribution today! Every $10 that you contribute will help us to reach an additional 25 voters.

As you know, the official Democratic Party slate mailing is the most effective piece of mail that we can send out to our constituents before Election Day. With California labeled as a “safe blue state?for Barack Obama, we need to ensure that Democratic voters are supporting our down-ballot races and voting the right way on the state ballot propositions as well.

Recent polling has shown that without our endorsement slate, we run the risk of having Democrats show up to the voting booth and only voting for the top of the ticket. We cannot allow this to happen!

Amplify the Democratic message with a contribution now!

To top it off, companies around the State are sending fake, "Democratic" slate cards meant to confuse voters about where the Democratic Party stands on issues and candidates. The California Democratic Party is in a unique position to get our message out in one piece of mail that covers everything from electing Senator Obama as our next president, down through all of the statewide propositions. But we need your help! Help us to get out the one piece of mail that champions all Democratic issues in the state of California and help us pave the wave to a better and brighter future here at home!

Please help us with a contribution of $25, $50, $100 or more today so that we may continue to keep our state BLUE ?from the top of the ticket down!

I hope that you will be able to join us in our fight for California's future with a contribution to the California Democratic Party today.

Remember, every vote and every dollar counts in this fight for California's future!

In gratitude,

Art Torres

Yes we can

In less than a week I promise you that this country will be different.

November 4, 2008 will go down as a monumental day in the history when we elect Barack Obama. Change like this only happens once in a lifetime. You can be a part of this change or you can let this moment pass you by.

This is it! Sign up today to volunteer.

Helping people vote on Election Day is easy and something anyone can do, but it takes a lot of motivated volunteers to pull it off. Come this weekend to a Democratic campaign office near you and help “Get Out the Vote?(GOTV) for Barack Obama and the Democratic ticket. We have offices across the state; places where your help will make the difference on Election Day.

Sign up to help at http://www.cadem.org/volunteer.

Once Tuesday, November 4, 2008 is over you can’t go back. This isn’t TIVO or your favorite DVD where you can go back and watch your favorite scene when it’s convenient for you.

We will either stand up for woman’s right’s to chose and civil rights by defeating Prop 4 & 8 or not. We will either make a statement that California will treat animals with the humanity they deserve by passing Prop 2 or not. We will either stand up to Arnold’s power grab of the Legislature by defeating Prop 11 or not. It’s your choice.

GOTV is going to start this Saturday morning and go all the way until the polls close on Tuesday at 8pm. Don’t let this chance to help pass you by. Please click here to volunteer.

The rewind button is broken, after Tuesday there is no going back! It’s now or never.

Sincerely,

Crystal Strait
Political Director, California Democratic Party

PS ?Please let us know you’re coming to volunteer. We love unexpected volunteers, but it’ll help us plan if we know that you’re coming. So please RSVP here and one of our organizers will call you.

News from Barbara Boxer, United States Senator from
 California

Dear Friend:

Does the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) owe you money?  Currently, the IRS owes refund checks worth a total of more than $103 million to more than 104,000 Americans.  And it owes stimulus checks worth a total of about $163 million to about 279,000 people.

All of these payments represent checks that were returned to the IRS because of address problems.  In most cases, people moved and failed to update their address with the IRS.  Usually all that is needed for the payments to be reissued is for the mailing address to be updated.

If you or someone you know is missing a check, or if you think you might be missing a refund or stimulus check, it is easy to inquire about the status and make the necessary updates.  The most critical change is for stimulus checks because, if addresses are not updated by November 28, 2008 so that checks may be issued by December 31, 2008, the program ends and the stimulus payment is not longer available.

STIMULUS CHECKS:
To check on the status of stimulus checks, you can use the “Where’s My Stimulus Payment?" tool on the IRS website.  It has a quick and easy way for a taxpayer to inquire about the status of a stimulus check and receive instructions on how to update his or her address. If you know someone who does not have internet access, they can call 1-866-234-2942.

REFUND CHECKS:
If you are missing a refund check, you can use the “Where’s My Refund??/A> tool on the IRS website.  This feature enables taxpayers to check the status of their refund and update their address. To use this feature, the taxpayer must submit his or her Social Security number, filing status and amount of refund shown on their 2007 return. Taxpayers without internet access may call 1-800-829-1954.

AVOIDING FUTURE PROBLEMS:
One way to avoid future mailing problems is to opt for direct deposit when you file your return.  Direct deposit, to either a personal checking or savings account, allows you to avoid lost, stolen or undeliverable checks and is available for filers of both paper and electronic returns.

Sincerely,

Barbara Boxer
United States Senator

Yes we can

Dear Activist,

Yes We Can VolunteerAfter eight years of disastrous policies of the Bush Administration, we need a New Direction for America. It's time for a new type of President and it's time for a new type of politics. It's time for Barack Obama.

Barack Obama shows us a new way forward. He has a real plan for protecting and promoting working families, reforming health care and getting our economy back on track. But more than that, he has called us to rise above to a better type of politics that reaffirms our responsibility to ourselves and to others.

Here in California, please join me in opposing Propositions 4 and 8. Proposition 4 is an ill-conceived measure that would put the health of our teens in danger. Proposition 8 would write discrimination into our State Constitution and take away the existing rights of same sex couples to marry. Both of these propositions are opposed by Barack Obama as they are rooted in the old politics of division, and they must be defeated.

I urge you to vote Democratic from the top of the ticket on down, because an Obama Administration will need Democratic allies at all levels of government to enact the changes we need. Whether it's a vote for Congressional candidates to re-elect Jerry McNerney and elect Charlie Brown and our strong challengers; a vote for State Assembly candidates like Joan Buchanan, Marty Block, Manuel Perez, or State Senate candidate Hannah-Beth Jackson; or a vote for a Democratic supervisor or city council member; a vote for a Democrat is a vote for Team Obama.

Please click here to see the Democratic Party endorsements in your county.

John McCain represents four more years of the Bush Administration. In nominating John McCain, the Republican Party shows they have no new ideas to address the challenges that we face as a nation.

That is why, rather than running on the issues, we have seen little more from John McCain and the Republican Party than attacks and distortions.

Team Obama offers real change and a new way forward.

Onward to Victory!

Nancy

I wanted to make sure you saw this important message from Speaker Pelosi. She does a great job of reminding us why we need to vote for Barack Obama and the rest of the Democratic ticket, and also to vote No on Propositions 4 and 8. Please take the time to read it completely.

Two quick reminders first:

With the election tomorrow, the enthusiasm we're seeing in our offices is fantastic, but we still could use your help. To volunteer, just go to http://www.cadem.org/volunteer.

Second, you should not put your absentee ballot in the mail if you haven't mailed it already. Absentee ballots must be received by Tuesday Nov. 4th at 8:00pm. Because your ballot might not make it in time if you put it in the mail today, you should bring your completed absentee ballot into any polling place in your home county on Tuesday. For more information on how to protect your vote, or if you have more questions about your absentee ballot, please visit http://www.cadem.org/voterrights or call our toll-free Election Protection Hotline at (877) 321-VOTE (8683).

Dear Activist:

We are finally here! Today is Election Day. This is a historic moment for the country as we elect Barack Obama and Joe Biden. This is a historic moment for California as stand up for a woman’s right to choose and civil rights for all by voting NO on Propositions 4 and 8.

I want you to have all the information you need to be a part of this historic moment by making sure your vote counts today.

The most important thing you can do today is go vote. The polls are open today from 7am to 8pm. Although you have a right to vote as long as you’re in line by 8pm, I strongly encourage you to vote early in the morning or afternoon. If you are a vote-by-mail (absentee) voter and you still have your ballot, don’t put your ballot in the mail. You need to drop it off at any polling place in your county today by 8:00pm.

The Democratic Party is committed to ensuring that every eligible voter is able to cast a ballot, so if you have any problems voting or any questions about voting you can visit our Voting Rights page or call our Election Day Hotline: 1-877-321-VOTE (1-887-321-8683).

One of the most frequent questions we get is about polling locations. Your polling place will be printed on the back of your sample ballot, however you can also click here to look up your polling place.

The second most important thing you can do is vote the whole ticket. Don’t stop at the top of the ballot. We need to elect Barack Obama and a team of Democrats at all levels of government to help him change this country. We need to stand together on very important ballot initiatives that will shape the future of California for decades to come. You can find Democratic Party endorsements for state and local races by clicking here.

The third most important thing you can do is help us get out the vote. We need your help today reminding others to vote. Just go to www.cadem.org/offices to find an office near you and call to let us know you’re coming.

Here’s to making history!

News from Barbara Boxer, United States Senator
 from California

Dear Friend:

As Chairman of the Senate's Committee on Environment and Public Works, I have been focused on several important challenges facing our nation.  Most importantly, the financial and economic crisis is impacting all Americans.  An increasing number of Americans also have been impacted by the increase in home foreclosures, either directly or because houses in their neighborhood have been abandoned.

Our nation also faces serious infrastructure problems as our bridges, highways and flood control projects are aging.  Collapsing bridges, crumbling highways, and failing levees have all been in the headlines recently.  We also need to improve our border infrastructure to increase security while reducing waiting times.

I have been focused on how our infrastructure challenges represent economic opportunities, not just to rebuild America's infrastructure but also to jumpstart our economy. My staff recently held a hearing with representatives of Imperial and San Diego Counties to consider how the next authorization of the Federal highway, transit, and highway safety programs can help America’s economy.  If you would like to read my statement or the testimony of local officials, I encourage you to use this link to learn more.

While we face tremendous challenges as a nation, we also have significant opportunities to put Americans to work and to rebuild vital projects.  I hope you will look into the information that was shared in San Diego.

Sincerely,

Barbara Boxer
United States Senator
