I have watched; actually my whole family has watched The Young and the Restless since the mid 70's since it started.

I catch up with it when I can; usually twice a month or so.  Today I watched it as I'm off for the holiday.  They killed off one of the first and best characters of the show.  Katherine Chancellor was there from the very beginning and played the role of a wealthy older woman who battled alcoholism throughout much of her life.

Through some schizophrenic type relapse and while talking with her "other" self she ended up in a car accident and died!

I just can't believe it!!  Sometimes the writers of these shows really piss me off!  But they know I'll tune in at the very next opportunity

Yes, sometimes I am quite the fag, rightfully so!

Brandon

I am an AMC (All My Children) devotee for over 30 years now . . . not on a daily basis . . . but whenever I'm in front of a television . . . It "all began" in my senior year of college when some of my fraternity brothers scheduled classes so "lunch" fell over the AMC airtime. That was when Susan Lucci debuted as Erika Kane . . . the teen bitch queen . . . and has grown into the roll . . . including now 10 or 11 ex-husbands.

A few years back when I began being home most afternoons, I added "One Life to Live" which immediately follows AMC, was created by the same person, and has on occasion interwoven its plot with AMC.

I usually watch as a break from daytime MSNBC which can become repetitious. . . I keep the television on as I work on my laptop . . . muting it for phone calls

The writers are not winning my praise these days.. . . too much prolonged drama with little convincing substance. The only thing worse than some plots would be wasting my time telling disinterested parties about them . . . So I will not! LOL!!!

I found out that Katherine didn't actually die.  In fact her alternate personality was indeed a twin.  Thinking back the first time they showed an accident they showed a body moving in the brush.  When they found the body it was in the car.

I guess you would have had to have watched the show to understand

I didn't even know All My Children was still on the air!  I really only watch one.

I missed the daytime broadcst of AMC and OLTL yesterday . . . but . . . Thanks to cable's SOAPNET . . . they are repeated SEVERAL times each night . . . as I flipped to watch AMC . . . I saw the end of Y&R . . . and it was a sequence of people getting phones calls telling then Katherine had died in a car crash . . . So, did she die or not???

BTW . . . Today . . . Agnes Nixon the creator of AMC and OLTL made a guest appearance today as a "ghost" of a historic figure known as "Aggie"  from 1870 (actually AMC started in 1970) who wrote a book called "All My Children" that was a bestseller according to a yellowed clipping form the Pine Vally newspaper archives!!  I think it was AMC's 10,000th show . . . according to a graphic in the corner of the screen

A while back on an anniversay for OLTL, another Agnes Nixon creation, she appeared in "heaven" as the "Boss" sitting in a directors chsir in a suitable foggy room . . . heaven is foggy . . .

Anyway . . . I return to the question . . . Did Katherine die or not?

LOL!  The show that aired on Veteran's Day shows a body moving in the bushes after the car wreck but when the supposed "Katherine"was found she was in the passenger side of the car.

The show has been portraying Kathernine as helping a "twin" recover from alcoholism and prepare for rehab.  The show makes you believe that this other person is an alter ego and not a separate person.  One would assume Katherine is having some sort of schizophrenic breakdown talking to someone who is not there.

Now that it's all said and done it seems that indeed it was another "person."  That person is dead and "Katherine" survives.  I'm sure she has amnesia and is lost in the wilderness probably going to shack up with some redneck.  I have these things so figured out but I could be wrong.

According to my mother, Jeanne Cooper (actress playing Katherine) just signed another two year contract with the show so she can't be dead!  Unless she plays the part of a ghost.

I won't be able to catch up with the show for a couple of weeks but I'm sure I will receive countless e-mails from my mother telling me all abou it

When a family is so attached to a friggin soap opera you can't help but try to keep up with it.

That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!

Thanks for the info though.  I'm sure the whole community will get the news, grieve, and the doctor will say, hmmm, this is not Katherine Chancellor.  AND, then the story really unfolds!

LOL!!!!

OLTL has a double-doozie . . . The lead female character, Victoria Lord aka "Vicki" a very proper pillar of the community has an alternative identity "Nikki who is a foul-mouthed, boozing tramp.

The conditon is called "DID" . . . Dual Identity Disorder . . . or something of that sort.

Well, that is a yummy plot to invoke when the creative juisces dry up . . . but . . . like Doublemint gum . . . double you pleasure, double your fun.

Vickie has a daughter Jessica aks Jessie . . . who surprise!! . . . has an alternative identity "Tess" who is a foul-mouthed, boozing tramp.

It is tempting to tell you the most recent "Tess" plotline . . . but I choose to feed myself instead!!   LOL!!!

Yeah, something like that.  Though it seems that at least in Katherine's case she doesn't have DID.  She actually had a twin.  I don't know.  It's confusing and I'm going to miss out on until probably next friday and by then the drama could be over!!

Jeanne Cooper plays the dual personality quite well.  She can be a well composed older sophisticate with a kind heart and she can also play a downright billigerant, nasty, stumbling drunk quite well!

I believe years ago she played a part on "Law & Order."  Y&R has been her home though for years.  The minute a movie is produced with her as a lead or secondary role, I am SO THERE!
