Today's "Marriage" Scripture *December 6, 2008* by Jason Hunt

1 Peter 3:7
[ Husbands ] In the same way, you husbands must give honor to your wives. Treat your wife with understanding as you live together. She may be weaker than you are, but she is your equal partner in Gods gift of new life. Treat her as you should so your prayers will not be hindered.
A mans relationship with his wife is a direct reflection of his relationship with the Lord. If he is not honoring his wife, loving her, remaining faithful to her and treating her with understanding, than he is not paying the Lord the same respects.
After David slept with Bathsheba he pleaded in Psalm 51:11 Do not banish me from Your presence; do not take Your holy spirit from me.
We are also warned in Malachi 2:14
You cry out, Why doesn't the Lord accept my worship? I'll tell you why! Because the Lord witnessed the vows you and your wife made when you were young. But you have been unfaithful to her, though she remained your faithful partner, the wife of your marriage vows.
God takes marriage very seriously, to the extent that He will not hear our prayers, receive our worship or give us blessings if we are not loving our wives.

Gracious and merciful Father, grant us the humility to put our pride and selfishness aside and allow You to guide our hearts in marriage. Forgive us for those times we have been less than honoring with our wives. May we learn to value Your presence in our lives and honor You in marriage. In Your Name, Amen.
