This has been very good to me.  (Barbara is me wife.)

Procedure

Mix:

2 Cups flour

1 tsp. baking powder

1 tsp. baking soda

1 tsp. salt

Cream together:

1/2 cup shortening

1 1/2 cup sugar

2 eggs

Add:

3/4 cup buttermilk

Mix buttermilk with dry ingredients and creamed ingredients, alternating.

Add:

1 cup mashed banana (about three)

1/2 cup chopped nuts

1 tsp. vanilla

Bake at 350 deg for 30 minutes in two greased 8 inch loaf pans.
