But worth a second look.
Memorial Day
It has often been said
Death visits all in due time
How terrible it is
When taken in their prime
No conflict is holy
That takes the young life
But the one who gives willingly
Adds honor to strife
Such great hopes for mankind
Our progeny and ourselves
Cut short for what purpose
Only the historian will delve
They were our smartest
Our best, young and brave
The hope of our future
Now they hallow the grave
Remember them well
And when you pray
Ask for a time
When peace rules the day

We Put A Flag
We put a flag on daddy's grave
Mommy said he was young and brave
The pretty colors danced and flew
She said I look like him too
Later we saw the Memorial parade
Fire engines and the noise they made
Clowns, Shriners and a marching band
Soldiers passed, mommy squeezed my hand
It's been a year since daddy died
I remember how mommy cried
We put more flowers on daddy's grave
Mommy said I was young and brave
