Mr. Pike was deciding how best to penetrate the walls of Castle Pheonix without raising the suspicions of The Phoenix, with his highly trusted jailer, Ivan. “I only want those you trust to scout Castle Phoenix Ivan, if The Pheonix gets wind of our spying He will attack Castle Brady. “aye Mr. Pike, we must be careful.” Ivan replied.

Just outside the stable where Mr. Pike and Ivan were making plans, a young boy named Peter over hears the conversation. “I’m in and out of Castle Pheonix all the time, I can go and spy on the Pheonix and report to Mr. Pike what information I come up with.” Peter thought to himself. “I’ll do it! I didn’t like how The Pheonix treated Miss Brady, she was so beautiful and she was nice to me. Yes I’ll do this for Miss Brady.” He thought and off he ran to the kitchen for supplies.

“Here now! What’s the hurry lad?” Hildie asked. “I’m gathering supplies for an adventure.” Peter replied. “You’re leaving Castle Brady? And where might you be going?” Hildie inquired. “Uh, to see me mom over in the next valley.” Peter lied. He didn’t want anyone to know of his plan to help Miss Brady, he was sure someone would stop him. “Let me help you then, so you can be on your way post haste.” Hildie insisted.

Peter scurried to his quarters and gathered some clothing and headed out of the gates of Castle Brady on foot. His trek was uneventful for the most part, but he did have a run in with an angry squirrel over some walnuts. After he cleaned up his war wound, he gathered his nuts and continued walking. At night fall he gathered wood and built a fire. Then he settled in for the night, eating a meager meal and planning his entrance into Castle Pheonix.

Peter was up before the sun rose the next day and well on his way to Castle Phoenix. The night before, he had decided to visit the jailer’s son, Frankie. Frankie could give him quite a bit of information regarding the imprisonment of The Brady’s granddaughter. He did of course feel a pang of guilt for doing this to his friend, but his loyalty lies with The Brady and Frankie’s with The Pheonix. He could now see Castle Pheonix head in the distance, his excitement growing stronger with each step. He slowed his pace in hopes to slow his racing heartbeat. He knew once he was behind the gates there would be no getting out for nearly a week, when the next delivery wagon would bring supplies.

At the gate, the guard asked him various questions before admitting through the gates of Castle Pheonix. “Yes! I’m in!” He thought to himself. In addition, he set off to find his friend Frankie. He looked in the stables to see if Frankie might be there doing his assigned chores, but he was not there. He then proceeded to the kitchen to see if he was there having an early dinner.

In the kitchen, Frankie is talking to a young maid about The Phoenix’s dinner menu when Peter walks in clearing his throat. “Ahem.” They both turn with smiles on their faces to greet the newcomer. “”lo my friend” Frankie says. “Greetings Peter, so nice to see you again.” “Hello. Frankie I have come to visit for a week, there is too much excitement going on at Castle Brady. Some party or something.” Peter explains.

“’ave ye now?” Frankie asks his interest is obvious. “Aye, I have.” Peter replies. “Well let’s get you settled in my quarters.” Frankie says leading the way to his room. The two friends talk briefly of their health as they reach the door to Frankie’s room. “Well make ye self ta home Pete. I’ll get ye some sheets for the bed.” Frankie says.

After unpacking, the two boys exchange stories of recent adventures over a dinner of roasted duck and potatoes. Then they proceed outside to the garden to walk of their dinner and talk about the recent fire that took place in the castle. Frankie is filling Peter in on the goings on when the boys are startled by an angry voice from behind them. “Boy! You know better than to talk of the goings on here. Who are you?” The angry voiced man asks grabbing Peter by his shirt collar. “I apologize to you oh great Pheonix, this is my trusted friend Peter.” A scared Frankie explains. “Trusted?” I’ll be the judge of that, my boy!” The Pheonix replies angrily. “And if he can’t be trusted, then you both die!” Explains the Pheonix. “Bart!” The Pheonix yells. “Take these two to my private rooms.” The Pheonix orders. “Yes Boss! Right away.” Bart says taking the two by the arms and leading them away.

“Man, I tell ya you boys are in a world of hurt now.” Bart explains as he escorts them to The Phoenix’s rooms. “Tie them to the rack Bart, and strip them of their shirts.” The Pheonix orders. “Yes Boss.” Comes the reply as he sets to his task. Seeing that both are tied securely says “All yours Boss.” “Good, now leave us.” Demands the Pheonix. Hearing the door close, the Pheonix picks up a whip and walks over to the young boys. “Now then Frankie, perhaps your friend here would like to explain his presence in my home.” The Pheonix commands. Peter explains, “I came to visit Frankie because it is too noisy at Castle Brady and…,” “Castle Brady!?!” The Pheonix interrupts.

Before Peter can explain further, a huge ruckus can be heard out in the courtyard and Bart is banging on the door. “Boss! Boss!” Bart yells. The Pheonix opens the door as a breathless Bart explains, “Men have penetrated the walls and are fighting with the men shouting ‘death to the Pheonix’.” “Get my bag and meet me at the secret entrance, quickly Bart.” Says The Pheonix. The boys are immediately forgotten as The Pheonix prepares for his escape.

Stepping out of the shadows the maid from the kitchen, runs into The Phoenix’s private rooms and unties Peter and Frankie. Grateful Peter says thank you to her and moves to the door to see what is happening. “Thanks Lisa, do you know what is going on out in the courtyard?” asks Frankie. “Only what Bart told The Pheonix?” replies Lisa. The trio moves towards the stairs out in the hall and proceed to make their way to the second floor. “We have to get out of here now, it won’t be long before The Phoenix returns.” Explains Frankie. “We can go to Castle Brady, Mr. Pike will protect us.” Replies Peter. “Lisa? You need to come with us, if anyone saw you The Phoenix will surely kill you.” Frankie says. “I need to get some of things together first.” Lisa explains as she starts for the door. Frankie gently touches her arm and says “Wait for us, you can not go alone.”

In Lisa’s room, she quickly gathers her clothing and puts it in a duffle bag. On her way to the door, she stops at the chest of at the foot of her bed and removes a large leather bound book, also putting that in her bag. Then the trio head to the dungeon with Frankie explaining where they are going. “I found this passage way that leads to a small pond in the woods behind the castle.”

Once through the passage and back out in the light of day, the trio begins their journey to Castle Brady. As dusk begins to fall, Frankie explains that they need to sleep in the trees tonight. He does not want to risk a fire incase The Phoenix has men following them. The two boys look at each other as Lisa scurries up a tree as if she were born to it. “What? Have you never seen a girl climb a tree before?” Lisa asks. One by one, the boys climb the tree and settle in for the night. They talk about the days events thus far and Peter asks Lisa about the book she brought with her. “This book has all the happenings at Castle Phoenix recorded in it.” She explains. “Mr. Pike will be interested in reading that.” Peter says. Lisa gets a worried look on her face as Frankie says, “We will cross that bridge when we come to it, but for now let’s just get some sleep.” They hunker down for the night with Frankie silently keeping a look out.

Chapter 4

With the dawn comes a thunder of hooves, waking the trio from a restless nights sleep. “It’s Mr. Pike.” Peter exclaims and jumps down from his perch to flag the group of riders. Pulling his steed to a stop beside Peter, Mr. Pike asks, “What are you doing here lad? I thought you were back at Castle Brady.” “I have just come from Castle Phoenix Mr. Pike, and …” He starts to explain. “Gods blood lad, have you taken leave of your senses? Mr. Pike asks interrupting Peter. “I overheard you and Ivan talking at the stables and I thought to help Miss Brady.” He finishes.

With a sigh Mr. Pike says in disbelief, “Now I know you have taken leave of your senses lad.” Frankie chooses this moment to make his presence known and jumps from the tree with a thud, and Lisa follows his lead surprising Mr. Pike and his men. “Look out lad, you have…” Mr. Pike starts. Peter yells, “No Mr. Pike, these are my friends. They helped me escape from The Phoenix.” “Escape?” Mr. Pike asks, dumbfounded. “Ahem,” Frankie clears his throat. “I hate to interrupt you but, we really do need to get a move on. The Phoenix could be hot on our trail as we speak.” “I want to know what happened Peter.” Mr. Pike demands. “Yes sir, but could we be off first I don’t…” Peter begins. Off in the distance a rumbling of horses hooves can be heard. “Mount up lad and your friends too.” Mr. Pike orders as he gives Peter a leg up. They ride like the wind as Peter explains what happened at Castle Phoenix.

Back at Castle Brady Mr. Pike gives orders putting the castle on lock down until further notice, and heads inside to the great hall with the trio in tow. “I want to see this book you spoke of Peter.” Mr. Pike demands. Peter asks Lisa to trust Mr. Pike as he gently pushes her forward book in hand. Taking the book from Lisa, he smiles down, at her, walks over to the fireplace, and sits down. On the cover of the book is a crest of the Phoenix. Mr. Pike opens the book and begins to read. “The Gemini twins were my ultimate scheme. I had Rolf harvest Kate Roberts’s eggs and fertilize them with the sperm from Roman. These two children will wreak havoc in all of Salem.”

“Ivan!” Mr. Pike shouts, causing Lisa to scream. Frankie puts a protective arm around her shoulder as Mr. Pike apologizes. “Sorry Lass, everything fine.” And he smiles gently at her. “Yes sir?” Ivan says coming into the great hall. “Send word to the Brady, I am in possession of the Phoenix’s journal. He may want to come see this for himself. And ask him to bring the mercenary with him, I have a feeling we’re going to need him.” Mr. Pike explains. “Yes sir, right away.” Ivan replies and disappears through the entrance.

A messenger arrives at the Brady Pub, looking for Shawn. Sami is there with Will and signs for the package explaining that her grandfather is upstairs now. She sees the envelope is marked urgent and that is from Castle Brady. “Grandpa won’t mind seeing as I made friends there.” “Mom! You can’t read Great Grandpa’s mail, its wrong.” Will says as she opens it and begins to read. “Young Peter has discovered the journal of The Phoenix, Mr. Pike asks that The Brady be present and could he please bring the mercenary with him.” “What’s that you got there Sami?” Grandpa asks. Sami looks up at him fear in her eyes. “It’s from Castle Brady…” She begins. “You opened that without my permission? Sami you know better than to do that”. He interrupts and takes the envelope from her. “I’m sorry Grandpa; I didn’t think you would mind seeing as I have friends there now.” She explains. “I didn’t tell you about Castle Phoenix because I was trying to protect you and the family.” He says angrily and stalks off. Sami grabs her purse and says, “Will stay with Grandpa ok, I need to do something very important.” She kisses Will and rushes out the door.

John is at Basic Black talking with Brady when Sami barges in. “John, you have to take me with you. Peter’s in trouble.” She says in a rush. “Whoa Sami slow down what are you talking about?” John asks as Lucas walks in. “What’s wrong Sami? What has happened to Peter?” He asks. The phone rings before Sami can explain. “John Black here, talk to me.” He says. While listening to the caller John looks at Sami raising his eyebrow. “Okay Shawn , I’m on my way.” He hangs up the phone and tells Sami, “It’s too dangerous for you to be going to Ireland.” “What? Ireland?” Lucas says confused. “Sami you cannot go to Ireland Will needs you here.” “Will is fine Lucas, he’s safe and sound at the pub, Peter on the other hand needs me.” Sami explains. “If you’re hell bent on going, then I’m going with you.” Lucas states firmly. “Mom can watch Will.” “What? Lucas your mother…” Sami begins yet another tirade about Kate. “If we’re all going, we need to get moving here; we’re burning daylight.
