Chapter 3

Silent tears were streaming down Sami's cheeks.  Lucas
looked at the result.  According to the test, Sami was
pregnant.  He stood up and pulled her into his arms.

"It'll be okay, Sami," he whispered softly.  He gently rocked
her back and forth.

"Oh, Lucas, how could this have happened?" sobbed Sami.

He cupped her face in his hands and grinned slyly at her.
"Do we need to have a talk about the birds and the bees?"

She pushed him away.  "That's not funny, Lucas."  She
walked to the other side of the room and then spun around.
"I can just hear your mom saying I did this on purpose to
trap you."

"It doesn't matter what she says, Sami.  It takes two, and
neither of us gave birth control a second thought.  You also
heard me tell my mom that if she tries to make me choose,
that I will not be choosing her," answered Lucas.

Sami ran her fingers through her hair.  "What are we going
to tell Will?"  she asked.

"The truth, Sami," answered Lucas.  "We'll tell him we
didn't use birth control and you got pregnant.  It's a good
chance to start teaching him about 'safe sex," answered
Lucas.

Sami's face turned a deep red.  "I guess we didn't set a very
good example for our son."

Lucas thought about the surprise he had planned to spring
on Sami today.  It would also become a surprise for Will
tomorrow.  Did he dare do it now?  Would this positive
pregnancy test foil the plans he'd so carefully made.

"All parents make mistakes Sami," he told her as he walked
across to where she stood.  "We just have to learn from the
mistakes we make so we don't repeat them."  He pulled her
back into his arms.

"I don't want to think of this baby as a mistake, Sami.  I
think of it as a wonderful thing.  I hope you will see it that
way too," whispered Lucas.

"I'm trying, Lucas.  Really, I am.  I'm just scared.....with all
the havoc going on right now, it could really put a strain on
our relationship," answered Sami softly as he buried her
face in his chest.

Lucas wondered if he dared spring his surprise on Sami.  All of his careful
planning would go to waste otherwise.
