My daughter is almost 11 weeks old and she typically sleeps through the night but she has recently started crying in her sleep.  Around 4 or 5 a.m. my husband and I check on her because she is crying and when we go in her eyes are still closed and she's asleep.  How do we help her with this?  When this first started we would try putting a pacifier in her mouth and then she would sleep quietly for another hour or two but that's not working as well now.  We tried waking her up, changing her diaper, and putting her back down but she then cries in her sleep again.  Any suggestions?

my only answer is she is a baby......maybe she is teething?  Maybe she is growing?  I have 5 kids, and all of them went through periods of change in slepping habits.  You are lucky to have had her sleeping through the night at 11 weeks.   She will eventually get herself back to sleep.  Maybe put her to bed a little later?

My first son use to wake up crying in the middle of the night and it wasn't until he started talking that I realized what the problem was. He'd wake up with leg cramps. I think the doctor said it's because he was growing.
That could very well be why your daughter is waking up. Maybe try rubbing her legs and see if that helps.
You may also want to check with your pediatrician and see if he has any suggestions for possible leg  cramps.
You also have to be careful that your daughter isn't trying to train you to be with her 24/7.
If you go to your daughter every time she cries, even when you know there's no reason why she should be crying, she's going to expect you to come running every time she opens her mouth.
Kids and babies are really smarter then we might think, lol.

If she is still sleeping while she's crying, just croon to her in a low voice and rub her tummy or head.  The spot right between the eyes is a great spot to stroke because it calms babies down.  It always worked for me with my kids.  I know its hard when they are so little because they can't tell you what they need.  My babies used to have a tape of soft music with womb sounds that I would have play continuously while they slept and they always slept pretty well.  You might want to try that.  Good Luck!

I have six month old and I think your daughter may be hungry. You have to remember that when the baby was inside you she  had constant feeding through your umbilicical cord.Babies have little tummies and they eat alot to grow.I would just feed her what you giver her; mom's milk or formula. Now that she is on the outside she maybe telling you that she is just  hungry.
