My recent loss was due to a huge mistake.  Kids let the dogs out and left the door open.  One of our Ferts got out and went onto the neighbors yard.  Their Wolf hybrid killed him.  That was a week ago and I still cry uncontrollably.  I got him creamated and we will get his ashes back but nothing seems to console me.  we have resuced most of our ferts.  I have one with adrenal gland diesese that has been getting lupron shots for about 2 years and is dooing good.  I have one that had such a huge tumor on her back leg when we got her they said we should put her down right then.  That was 8 months ago and the tumor is all but gone.  The rest just love the free roamng live of a spoled ferret.  I know accidents happen but I just can't seem to get over my first Fert loss this way.  I have done everything to ferret proof my house and anything else.  I guess I am just looking for some thing that says i will be ok!  Chewie Monster passed away on 1 Sept 2006!  It was one of the worst days in my life!!

I am so sorry you lost your ferret that way. No matter what it is hard, but when it is sudden, tragic and unexpected, it is harder than anyone can imagine. Remember he is happy, dancing and dooking at the bridge now and he will never forget what a great mommy he had! Big hugs.

Greg lost one of his babies the same way and no matter how much you beat yourself up, it was an accident and there was no way you could have known the ferret was going to get outside.
All you can do is try to protect them the best you can, just like you do human kids but things can happen beyond our control.
Do you have a picture of Chewie?

l too am sorry for your loss!!its always difficult to loose some one we are attached to,and im sure the way things happened makes it alot more difficult, but like Carol said none of us can always be right there and things happen,i had a maltese that choked on a peice of meat yrs ago and i blamed my self for not taking the time to pick it up off the driveway i was barbequeing, and i felt bad for mths until i gave my self permission to not have known it would happen like it did none of us want to see these things happen they are out of our hands i hope in time you will feel good about the wonderful fur mom you are and know you are.1 in your fur babies eyes!!!

Your Mocha is really cute.  They do look a like :).  Congrats on your new ferret.  I bought a new ferret too.  He's 2 1/2 months.  I'm hoping it will help Bear (the remaining ferret that had the bond with Trouble)through this.  He's not doing so well right now.
