This Morning Shannon (comps daughter) shot this 6X6 Bull Elk, it scored 294 7/8. We are hunting on the Jicarilla Apache Reservation. Her first shot was at the bull as it was running at 383 yds, her follow up shot was taken at 273 yds. She was using her .308 Sako Deluxe shooting 180gr Nosler Combined Technology Ballistic Tips.
gotta love a girl that can shot!

Well it looks like you have a supply of meat for this winter.  We took down the fence around the rose garden this year. The elk used to come in and graze till all the flowers were gone and leave the bushes intact . but about 3 years ago they striped the bushes leaving just thorny sticks in the air.  So up went the fence.  The elk would come in and go all around the fence but that stopped them .  But this year I had them take the fence down. I said that I would rather see the elk early every morning Then a few roses.  Where we live we have national forest all around us but then the valley south of us closes the forest to most hunters. Only people who live around here invite their friends up. (They are frowned upon) We have some of the most magnificent elk here on our mountain and you can run into one and they will just stand there.  Our daughter got an elk right after she moved up here.  Best meat I ever tasted. Good luck to all you hunters .

Got the meat cut and sent 114# of non roasts to the processor getting 50# ground, 34# ring bologna and 30# breakfast links.
Sending the hides to the tannery and having a coat and some gloves made.
The taxidermy man has the  antlers, the hat rack is on the way.

Ahhh it makes a Dad proud.  Congrats on the supreme meat and beautiful Trophy.
My son has had to take over the household since I have been in Alaska and he seems to be doing a good job.  He is 27 yrs old now and is assuming more authority and duties around the house. It looks like me going to Alaska was a good thing. While I was here he would just let me do the jobs. Now he see's things different and knows that if he doesn't repair a broken pipe or a downed truck no one else is there to do the job. Amazing isn't it how things do not fix them selves.
