I had a discussion with some guys up here who  are very opinionated about the USA policy overseas specifically, Afghanistan and Iraq. These fellows said that if the US and NATO pull back to their respective countries there would be no more wars and the Muslims would stop there fighting and the Jihad would end.
My take on this subject is probably the same as most of tthe rest of you, but I'd like to hear from our members about this. I think if we pull back and get out of there, the enemy will just regroup and we'll have more 911's. I know this is a very hot topic up here, as there tends to be a growing number of people who are changing their minds about the Afghanistan conflict. I feel that if this war is unwinnable, the only way to stop them cold is go nuclear. A very chilling concept.

I agree Trooper. If we pull out before we accomplish our goals, that VIRUS called the Jihad or whatever it is will only spread & get stronger.

Armoured,
As one of the lucky chaps who spent time in the Middle East courtesy of Uncle Sammy's travel agency, pulling out is not an option anymore. Consider how much trouble one wife can cause for an educated man, and contrast that with a poor Muslim with a limited education, more than one wife and one or more wives will be first or second cousins, limited contraception use so way more kids than can support, and a culture that forbids you to smile or have fun. Recruiting your own kids to go on a suicide bomb run strikes me as very sick, even lower than screwing your own kids.

The war is winnable but it will not be won this year or next year. This is going to be a war of attrittion of the nutjobs with deliberate, well aimed shots to the head. It will require winning the hearts and minds of the next generation, the old generation, and the wisest minds in the Muslim population. We will win this war by giving the rational and reasonable Muslims hope by showing them they can learn, they can earn, and they can have fun. The surge has been immensely helpful in creating a lull in the violence that allows people the peace of time to think about what has happened and how things might be changed for the better. All we need to do is prevent anarchy and provide a better path to tomorrow. That sounds simple but it will be hard to reach that path.

Should the Democraps cut and run, we will need to sell machine guns and ammo at every corner convenience store because we will be fighting against an enemy that is suicidal, determined, and nearly 100 million strong. To beat these ignorant scum in their own neighborhood must be the goal, and they are cowardly enough that we need only kill the first million to dissuade the remaining 99 million from coming here or attacking Westerners in the Middle East.

I worry about what is going to happen no matter what we do.  There are enough arabs in the middle east that they could wipe out the Isreali's . If it weren't for the US. Without our weapons they wouldn't have a chance.  But is that right.  We have a bomb that we could set off in afghanistan that would kill all the people in those caves up there and no do a bit of damage to the countryside.  Why haven't we used it?  The  real  enemy is just a fraction of the people there. They are so used to living that way that they don't fight it.  Why then should we worry. Because of the militants that would just love to wipe us out.  They would too if they thought we would give an inch.  Yet I have a 3 yr. old grandbaby that I pray will never have to see war.  I pray that I'm  in that other place before we have another war on our soil, But I would pick up my gun if I had to , and die for the right to pick up that gun.   We all need to stay the course  And hope we are  right. Being a night owl I may see a lot on television that most sleep through. The other night they were talking again about the legality of  God being blended in with politics.  They showed from the decloration of independence to the present about where all of our leaders added prayer to theirs daily jobs.  "In god we trust " Is written on everything.  At the end they started talking about Bob Hope and all the other famous people who went overseas to make the troups laugh and keep their spirits up.  About the  troups moral and how that helped in our other wars.  All we have are the silant majority who won't speak their minds and the liberals who would sell their souls to be  right.  Right on the heals of the next election I pray and I hope all the world does.

Sarrad0071,
It is too easy to forget just how small Israel is as a country, and how large their many enemies are all about them. The primary problem with that neutron bomb is that it kills all the wildlife as well, and kills the good guys as well as the bad guys. Olmert is a liberal but he is publicly stating that all options remain open to prevent Iran from getting nuclear arms.

I recommend the book Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortensen, an ex-Army medic and climber, that describes building schools throughout Pakistan to educate especially the girls. This is a slow process to educate the largely illiterate Pakistani tribes near the Chinese border, but it is working to change the mindset of these people. Once you have a generation of Pakistanis willing to change their culture and country for the better, the Taliban and anarchists loose their terrible grip on the unarmed peasants. I know that the mainstream media ignores the progress made in Afghanistan and Iraq, but we did not convert Germany or Japan in a mere year or two into the civil societies they have become.

And behind all of this, each of us needs to be telling every politician in office that we need as many armed citizens as possible to repel illegal immigrants and terrorists. The Japanese did not invade California in WWII since there were so many guns in the hands of citizens. Let's get that message out to the loonie lefties.

The question is: Should we fight here or there? I prefer overseas. We'll spend more rebuilting here, then we are spending there. So let's destory their countries, not ours.
But then if we fought here, we can blame our actions on terrorism. No jail time.
Just a thought.

Not sure about you trooper but I joined the military to go to someone elses country and blow it up and shoot at people. I was pissed when they would not let me do it.

If the US just pulled out and left a power vacum we would end up with some body worse that Sadam in there. Then he would get the support of all of the muslim nations and the Jhiad would grow to an even larger portion of the world than it is today. I think they would start by taking over poor countries in Africa and start recuiting from the young boys. We got nukes let use the damn things. Think if we did that everyone in the US and Canada could all get new windows (LOL sand + heat = glass).

Shoot first ask questions later.

I know one thing about Israel...they take no shit off anyone.  They've been known to take out snipers with air strikes.  they aquired tanks by catching Egytian tank crews outside their tanks taking a piss, slitting their throats, and taking the tanks.  they are tough sons of bitches, and I respect them for that.  if we sit around with our thumbs up our asses, these terrorists will just kill more poeple on our soil.  I say kill em all.

I was reading an article in a local paper at a restaurant the other day. The columnist, Micheal Coren said he got himself in hot water with the political correct types that seem to be dictating to us how to think in this country. He stated that there are muslim extremists that feel that Canadian soldiers should be targeted by their people over here while they're in training, before they are shipped off to Afghanistan and Iraq!
Boy, I'd love just to have a go at these scum bags. I can't for the life of me understand why we let these idiots into the country in the first place then sit back while they make threats like that! What the hell is Canada's political types thinking?

Let me clarify this. Micheal stated that these muslim extremists who are advocating the klilling of our soldiers are living in Canada so they are the enemy operating in our country.

Trooper, there is a simple formula for that. An enemy in your country who is not in uniform and who attacks your resources, either material or perrsonel, is a spy and saboteur. Spies get SHOT -- simple. It is time people started to ignore both their government and their politically correct leaders and started takng action on their own. If you know where they are just make them disappear.

Also if we pull out we would encourage even more attacks because it would be a victory for the extremists. We would be showing the world that our 21st century technology is no match for their 12th century philosophy and it would escalate into a world wide fight not just a localized conflict.

Gulfstream, I wholeheartedly agree with you. The problem here being we don't have a "state of war" or as we now call it "the emergency measures act".  Even though we have soldiers in harms way right now.  The problem as I see it, is that our minority gov't. under Prime Minister Steve Harper doesn't have the power to do what it should.  We need an election here or a serious incident to sway the public against the mussies. We have Idiots like the "Official Opposition" leader, Stephan Dion, going down to 'gitmo" to defend Omar Khadr, the Canadian born traitor who went over to the Taliban to fight against our forces.
