Armoured,
A bit of both were used in the colonies, and I have an example sold by the Dutch to the colonies in apparent defiance of the British attempt to blockade the colonies in November 1776. This example has Dutch hardware, and visible rifling but no provision for bayonet. I have seen a number of fusil and muskets with no rifling. I have seen a number of examples over the years with rifling that were domestic made so my read is that both rifled and smooth bore were available during the Revolution.
At any rate, let us not forget April 19 and June 17 this year with just brutal bravery needed to lay into the British so we chaps south of Canada needn't worry about our accents.
