No the doctor didn't order this new treatment. Sarge came up with it on his own.  Yes friends Sarge is not only a writer, inventer, husband, teacher, soldier and gunsmith but he dabbles in medical too.
Having plenty of time to think (laying on the couch or bed for almost three weeks) he thought back to things his school teachers had taught him. Especially the lady teacher that had the Health class.  One point evidently stuck in Sarges little adolesant brain about healing. The teacher had stated that sunshine had the capabillity to heal wounds.  EUREKA!  Shouted Sarge, of course there was no one home but Sarge and Duke, however Duke promptly jumped up on the couch and sniffed the sore foot to assure Sarge he was on duty. "I am out of here for the rest of the day and letting Mother Nature and Old Sol heal me up!"
So after a hour or so of trips on crutches and figuring out how to move patio furniture long distances with just one foot and two crutches Sarge had himself all set up. With the garage door open and a small white plastic table from the patio and a nice comfortable patio chair he was almost ready.  Then PFC Trent came home and helped bringing the pop cooler, cold drinks, back pack of books and magazines and a stereo for nice music.  "What a deal," thought Sarge, this sure beats day time TV.  Then the healing part, Sarge carefully unbandaged his left foot (yes he remembered that the doctor told him to leave the bandage alone BUT?)  "WOW UGG" thought Sarge as he finally brought the foot into view. His foot looked like a BIGFOOT (or a pan of under baked corn bread) with 5 fat sausages sticking out the end. And the skin on it was cracked and ugly looking. So with some Alovera lotion he found in Lt. Linda's medicine cabinent he carefully cleaned his foot of all the dead skin and being canny, of course, he slavished with sun block. Then propped it up on the little white table on a soft towel and let the sun radiate it's healing waves on it.  Fifteen minutes later the alarm he had brought with him went off and he covered the foot for an hour. Then repeat the routine 15 min. in the sun, 60 min out of the sun.  Total for the day an hour of sunshine but in small increments. And now Sarge had a...............foot that looked like a WELL baked loaf of bread with 5 cooked fat sausages sticking out of it. But it did feel better and the tan was GREAT. (thanks to Sarge's Indian Grandpa). The first time in his life he ever had his foot any color but white.
If the sun made his foot feel better and heal faster then his experiment was a success or if it was just getting out of the house on a beautiful day with the light breeze to cool him and the sounds of the neighborhood to listen too. Duke seem to enjoy the tossing and fetching of his toys too.  Gotta do that again.

Sarge with more healing ideas coming up.  (if he can get Lt. Linda to believe that going to the rifle range is a healing method for his foot)
