Mr. Wonder,
If I had to make a contribution, the only contribution I could make would be the sins He died for and that does not earn salvation. It only made it necessary for Him to make all the contributory and propitionary steps to ensure my salvation.
In all actuality, while we do sin, and Christ died for those sins... we are not the beginning of what caused Jesus Christ to make all the contributory and propitionary steps to ensure our salvation. Had you or I never existed, Christ would still have given his life because of Adam.
Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
We are not sinners because we commit sin... we sin, because we were born sinners. We were born with the sinful nature that Adam had become, in us.
We became sinners by that one act of Adam, and we are righteous by that one act of Jesus Christ.
Romans 5:19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
. "But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name."
Again, this is another or Israel's scriptures. Keep it in the context in which it was written.
John 1:11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
Who were His own?
Romans 15:8 Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers:
Paul had the gospel of the UNcircumcision.
Galatians 2:7 But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter;
We were not given the POWER to become sons of God. Jesus Christ made us Sons of God, WE CONTRIBUTED NOTHING... Israel had to earn that right. They had to endure to the end of their lives. Just as you said... WE DID NOTHING.
Romans 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
Romans 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
Romans 8:17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
He did it all without contribution from me.
If you can say that, how can you then say that someone must repent, confess their sins, and ask for forgiveness according to 1 John 1:9?
Can we now, somehow "contribute to our salvation" after the fact that it has already been completed without our help?
Let me say again…so there will be no misunderstandings. I know that we do works, works after salvation. We are His workmanship, His ambassadors. We do have work to do. Those works just have nothing at all to do with our committing or not committing sin.
In Christ
