Christ's baptism and a Christian's baptism are very similar in purpose.  Both are announcements and both are identification.

  • Christ was presented to Israel as the Messiah through John's water baptism.  That was the announcement.  "Behold the Lamb of God who taketh away the sin of the world!"

  • A Christian's water baptism is his/her presentation to the church that they have trusted in the Lamb of God as their own Lord and Saviour.

  • Christ's baptism by John was a sinner's baptism, yet He was no sinner.  By submitting Himself to John's baptism, He identified Himself with sinners, not with sin.  He is the remedy for lost sinners.

  • A Christian's water baptism is his/her identification with Christ in His righteousness; though having no righteousness of their own, they are "made the righteousness of God in Christ."

So, why doesn't God say that.  Why was He so specific in saying there would be a NEW HEAVEN, one place... and a NEW EARTH, another place.

I just said that in post 64.

The Scripture is the last chapter of Revelation.

What you actually said in post 64 is:

... "thus my eternal dwelling will be in heaven on earth."

The verse just does not say that Heaven will be on the earth....

It specifically says:

2 Peter 3:13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

In fact... 2 Peter says ...new heaven(s) with an s, AND a new earth...

Revelation 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

...a new heaven AND a new earth...

I don't see where you get the idea that heaven will be ON the earth.

The last chapter of Revelation doesn't say that. The Holy City is not heaven and he last chapter of Revelation doesn't include the Body of Christ anyway. We will already be doing whatever we are going to be doing in heaven.

If you look at these verses you will see who the last chapter of Revelation is written to.

Revelation 22:2 In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

The Body of Christ is not "the nations" We have no nationality.

Revelation 22:3 And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:

The Body of Christ was never under either the blessings or the curses that was given to Israel. (see Ephsians 2:11,12)

Deuteronomy 28:2 And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.

Deuteronomy 28:15 But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee:

Revelation 22:19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

The Body of Christ is not in the book of life... we have our own judgment, the judgment seat of Christ.... Once we are saved we cannot be taken from the Body of Christ.

All those verse should show you that the Body of Christ is not in the last chapter of Revelation.

In Christ,

Cindy

The New Jerusalem.

Heaven to me; heaven to me;
Jesus will be, what makes it heaven to me.

He told me I would dwell with Him, wherever He is.  Wherever He is is heaven to me.  I believe heaven is the New Jerusalem, on the earth.

You don't.

And thus we shall each continue to believe what we believe until you die and God tells you that you were mistaken.

As this is not a SALVATION issue, I suppose you can believe whatever you want to about Heaven.  I will continue to show what it says in God's Word... you may continue to show what you think.  We will both know when we get there.

That is true, Cindy.  In human terms, it's a long way down the road and it isn't likely to save one soul.

I don't mean to be argumentative.... but I have to say this.

Not one of us are guarenteed another breath.  Each breath we take might be our last or the last one of someone we hold very dear in our lives.  Life is very unpredictable, That is why Paul said:

2 Corinthians 6:2 (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)

If all we are concerned about is our own souls... it matters not what is believed beyond our gospel.   But if we care about others, it is crucial that we study and know what Scripture says.

You, youself, posted the thread "Words".  I do think that all words, words mean something, sometimes only one little word can be of great importance.  We need to know what "words"we are using to lead others to understand that they need a saviour and what is needful for their own salvation.

Colossians 4:6 Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

Ok, I read post 72.  Tell me in one sentence please, exactly what your point there is?

The end of this earthly life and the beginning of the eternal one, may not be a long way down the road, in human terms, for some; so what we say to others today may have an impact on a person for their eternal life.

P. S. How's that for one sentence?

P. S. P.S.'s don't count as the main sentance. lol

Words are important.  We should seek to lead others to Christ, but whether we frame our destiny as heaven, or heaven on earth, makes no difference.

Mr Wonder,

"We should seek to lead others to Christ," ?/P>

True, we should, but once they accept Christ as their saviour, what then?  I think it does make a difference what we teach them.

Does a math teacher lead pupils into a math class, hand them the math book and then say today's lesson is about how I think 2 + 2 = 5 just because they might wish it did? Of course they don’t. The teacher teaches them the facts that 2 + 2 = 4.

The Word of God is the same. It is about facts. What are the facts? What we teach others after they are saved should be the facts.

You seem to refuse to consider Scripture and what it actually says. You seem to think that a poem is going to lead them to the knowledge of the truth?

"Heaven to me; heaven to me;

Jesus will be, what makes it heaven to me".

Is that the facts? Is heaven to each person whatever they think it is regardless of what God's Word says it is? If someone thinks that Heaven is actually on the planet Mars does that make it so for them?

I truly believe that we need to consider truth directly from the Word of God, and not from the vain imaginations of man.

2 Corinthians 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

In Christ,

Cindy

Doz,

If you are saying that we need to give someone, that has just accepted Christ as their saviour, milk first then the meat of the Word, then I agree.

With Paul as our example, we are taught how he did it and we should try to follow his plan for teaching.

2 Timothy 2:2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

Just as Paul knew the Corinthians were not ready for meat... so should we know what a person is ready for as they learn.

1 Corinthians 3:2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.

Further.... it should be the milk of the truth.

In Christ
Cindy

Would it be possible to please start a new thread with this?

I am fortunate to at least have a dial up connection, and I thank God for it, but it is taking longer and longer for this thread to load for me.

Cindy, you can start a new one if you wish.  I use dial-up too, and as long as there are no graphics on a thread it loads fine for me.
