Words

Words are vitally important.  Spoken or written, they convey thoughts, images, ideas from one mind to another mind.  Isn't it interesting that as God revealed Himself to mankind, He chose to reveal His Son as the Word of God?  Jesus Christ is God in the flesh, the living Word of God.  The Bible is the written Word of God, thus in a very real sense, the Bible is God on paper.  Not literally, but figuratively.  Which is to say, the Bible reveals all we can ever know about God in this world, all that God intends for us to know.

It is the essence of idolatry to imagine something about God and then to act as though it were true, if it is not supportable in Scripture.  That is where the Roman Catholics have gotten into so much error.

We sent a spacecraft to Mars.  If it's off just a tiny bit of a degree when it leaves earth (unless corrected in flight), by the time it reaches where it is supposed to be going, it will be no where near Mars.  The RCC has lost its course numerous times in the past and now is sadly off course.  But this is not a discussion of the RCC.

I am saying we should be careful with our words.  We understand that the worlds were framed by the Word of God.  God speaks and it is.  It exists because of the Word of His power.  We should weigh our words carefully and not give people a wrong impression of God.  It is easy to fall into the world's way of speaking, "Oh how lucky you are."  I have not, to my memory, found the word "luck" in Scripture, nor the concept.  This is especially true when discussing absolute truth.  The world doesn't believe in absolutes.  The only absolute they allow is that there are no absolutes!

Morality thus becomes relative.  What's wrong for me isn't wrong for you, etc.  Find your own truth.  "If you touch the stove, it will burn you."  Given that the stove is 400 degrees Fahrenheit on its surface, this is a factual statement for every human being's finger, not just mine.

If there is a God and the Bible is His revealed Word, then it is truth for all humanity for all time.

We need to convey its truth accurately.

Amen,

God's Word means everything and every single one of them mean something.    Man's words, ... sometimes not so much, sometimes nothing at all, unless they line up with God's Words.

Miles Coverdale said: "It shall greatly help ye to understand scripture if thou mark not only what is spoken or when, but of whom and to whom, with what words, and what time, where, to what intent, with what circumstances, considering what goeth before and what followeth after."

Do his words line up with God's?  Yes, they do.

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

As far as luck I don't believe in it.  Good "luck" is usually the result of proper planning on our parts or on the part of others around us ... Bad "luck" is usually the result of improper planning on our parts or on the part of others around us .  So it isn't "luck" at all but the good or bad results of our actions.  There are unforeseen results that we don't consider until after the fact.

I read this verse the other day... I think it Scripturally explains what people want to call "luck".

Ecclesiastes 9:11 I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.

In Christ,
Cindy
