The Master’s Mandates

Scripture Focus: John 14:15-21
?STRONG>If you love me, you will obey what I command. . . . Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me?/FONT> (John 14:15, 21).

The peace and contentment of a well-adjusted, meaningful life grows out of a vital relationship with Jesus Christ. This month we consider a basic principle to enjoying this relationship: the simplicity of knowing and keeping the Mandates of the Master.

The Savior makes clear that proof of our love for Him lies in our attitude toward His words. It is amazing, however, how vague we can be about the actual commands He has given us. Many of us are almost at a loss to quote more than one or two of the orders given by Christ.

Jesus speaks specifically about this. “Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me.?To be sure we get that point, He adds his affirmation of devotion, ?STRONG>He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him?/FONT> (vs. 21). Such a precious promise will surely motivate us to familiarize ourselves with our Master’s Mandates and make them the core of our daily lives.

Insight: We cannot experience the true lordship of Christ without doing what He says, but to obey our Master’s Mandates is to abide in His love.
