These next things are for windows 98 and 98SE only

GOING BACK IN TIME

Have you ever had your computer have a mind of it's own?
where things change around and you do not know why?
This will fix it most everytime and get it back to normal
It will restore it back to exactly how it was before this happened
but you must do it within a couple days for it to work
sooner the better

1. Restart your computer....
2. When the first logo comes on your screen, start tapping the F8
key about 1-2 times per second... keep tapping till you see a
black screen with writing on it, then stop tapping....
3. You should see a flashing  C:/  type in scanreg/restore
(c:/scanreg/restore)
hit enter on the keyboard....
4. Using the arrows on your keyboard go down to #5
 or which ever number is
...Command Prompt Only....
5. Hit enter again....
6. Using the arrows again.... go down to like 1-2 days back in time
( go back to a time before it started messing up)
there should be like 4 dates.... last 4 days and then hit Enter again....
7. It will ask you if you want to restart your computer again
select Yes.... hit Enter again....
8. Ok now your puter will restart and it should be ok....

DEFRAGGING YOUR COMPUTER

NOTE.......Read this entire thing, including all the steps before
you start ....
this will make it easier in some parts,
if you know what you have on your system and which steps
to take before you start

If you have Norton, try running Norton Antivirus,
once opened, click on the Norton Utilities tab
(hopfully you have that with Norton) then click on
Find and Fix Errors, then click on Norton WinDoctor.....
then another box will come up and click on .... Continue...
then in the next box, select...Perform all Norton WinDoctor
tests(recommended), click next....This will start the
error check... when finished, it will tell you if it
found any errors .... if it did, on the other screen
that is up, it will show you the errors ... there is
an Icon on the left side that says... Repair All ..click
that and then let Norton fix all the errors. Once it is
done, go back to the Norton Utilities box and click on
Optimize Performance... then click on Speed Disc ...
select C:/ drive and then start ... You may get a window
that says something is running in the background and if
you want Norton to close it and restart it when done...
Click Yes this will defrag you...
If you do not have Norton, the first thing you should do,
before you start, is

1.... Make sure you are OffLINE
2.... hit .... Control, Alt, Delete ... End Task on everything
there except Explorer and Systray ( sometimes they are stuborn
and you have to do them again) so just keep Control Alt Delete
until all but those two are off the list
3.... Go to desktop and open My Computer.... Then open C:/ Drive
.... then open Windows folder.... then open Temp folder...
go to the Edit button, select all, then go to the File button,
and Delete .... ( If you get popups that ask you if you want to
delete, Like cookies folder, etc , click NO to everything that
pops up ....
4.... go back to Windows folder and open Temporary Internet
Files folder.... Edit, select all ... then File, delete.... if it asks
something about deleteing Index File, click NO
5.... Go back to Windows folder, click on
Cookies folder... this should be empty now, except for the
Index File ... if not, click Edit, select all ... then File, Delete
6.... Close all things opened
7.... Start, Programs, Accessaries, System Tools, Disc CleanUp....
select C:/ drive... you will get a window that asks if you
want to delete info in certain things , there will be like
4-5 boxs you can check , like , recycle bin, temp files, etc ...
check all the boxs and then ok and Yes you are sure you want
to do this.... when it is done, the box will disappear from
the screen...
8.... Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Scan Disc ...
Select C:/ , Standard test, and check the ... automatically
fix errors box, Start...NOTE... if it wants to keep restarting
couse something is running in the back ground and can not start,
or keeps restarting, look in your task bar, lower right corner,
by your clock..... see if you have an Icon for Task Schedular
.... if so, right click on it and pause it... actually, you
should do this with step number 1 but is ok here.... Look for
it before you even start Scan Disc and pause it
9.... Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disc
Defragmenter ....C:/drive, start....

This should be done at least once a week

That should do it....
Now..... If you have Norton, replace steps 8 and 9 with how
I showed about how to use Norton for error fix and defrag at
the top of this message
Hope I have not confused you to much here and this should
get you up and running good again
