Hi to all,
Has anyone ever measured the speed of their Thai Ridgeback running? We have measured BuaThong running in the veld next to the car and he reaches a speed of 60km per hour with ease and keeps it up for quite a distance. Qdira, who is now only 5+ months manages a cool 25-30km per hour. Are Thai Ridgebacks natural climbers and pointers, Qdira loves anything that she can climb up on like a mountain goat, the higher the better and has discovered that if she launches herself off the back of one of the sofas like a flying bat she can land on the dinning room table, if you dont watch her you end up with Thai Ridgeback puppy in your dinner plate. What makes it even more amusing is that the table has glazed tile inlays and she often goes sliding right across the top like a iceskater and off the other end. She also loves to curl up on top of the table and take a nat. We have noticed that lately she has started pointing at small animals in the veld just like a Short Haired German Pointer, front right leg up, head and nose forward, tail straight out at the back all stretched out like a perfect little pointer. Has anyone seen this behaviour in their dog, BuaThong crouches and stalkes so she could not have learnt this from him but what she has learnt from him is that come here means ignore mom and keep on walking off in the opposite direction. How can anyone not love this breed, they are just so special.
Regards
Gail

Yes, this breed climbs. The height thing is protction - see all around and dominance. The "one on top".
Ginger is very catlike. Stalks close to ground. We had an Elkhound that would do perfect point except for tail which is carried high and curled. Would back out on point to get someone to give command to flush.

Very interesting!
Era and Cleo are like monkeys, they jump from zero right up on the top of the cages. Era dont fear to steal food from the dinner table.
And the little one, used to carry things, once I found him carrying around a paper bag full of weat flour.
Bukki likes to jump up and walk in balance on stone walls...
she also plays a lot with her frontpaws, with stones etc, like an hockeyplayer...dribble...left..right...left..haha

When Sadie decided to play with other dogs for a bit it's always the Greyhounds and Whippets. They challenge her to run her fastest. She actually keeps up with them...though the Whippets are harder to keep up with because they are smaller and can turn on a dime as well.

As far as jumping ability...when she is jumping for tennis balls at the park many have commented on her abilities. I have some wonderful pics of her mid air.

The pic I'm attaching is of her crawling along the ground in "stalk" mode. This is another trait that everyone seems to comment on. She moves in slow motion as she crawls along the ground.

OK...I was out of space...and thought I had freed up enough...guess not...so here is another go at the crouch/crawl/stalk picture.

My kids are pretty fast... I'd say Piglet is probably the fastest... he's very thinly built, agile, and not as tall as his brother Batman (who still looks like a young colt trying out his legs)... they do love the run, and everyone's been having a blast on the trees and limbs that have fallen in the yard this past year... they're gonna be sad, when they're removed.... but I can't take looking at them anymore!

They are a joy to watch, and a lot like Basenjis, they have to be up high... I've even caught Nala (who was a street dog rescued from the streets of Thailand) walking like a cat on the top rail of my two teared deck... now that scared me... she even jumped from the lowest point, landed on her feet and took off running!

Piglet is a little too agile... I can see him, if he wanted to jumping the fence and running down the neighbors dog....

That's the one thing I hate about living in the county everyone lets their "whole" dogs run free... UGH!
