After 10 years with Xena you think I might have a good idea how her mind works.....but no, she is at it again. The addition of a very young german shepherd pup was rationalized on many levels but the driving force was that with a house full of senior citizens the newcomer could be introduced and would model his behavior based on the well behaved and very disciplined pack. All good intentions aside, our senior citizens are not agreeing with our decision. If our household was a democracy or a reality show, Guiness would no doubt have been voted off by now!
Xena has not killed him or caused blood yet, which is good, but instead has taken up an enitrely new tactic......she teaches him things which she knows are forbidden. Had I not seen it I would not believe it. There is newspaper in the puppy pen for him to do his business on if need be. Xena, who is none too fond of this new intrusion into the peace and calm of the household literally brought a piece of newspaper (which she carefully removed from the bin) and laid down next to the puppy pen. She then proceeded to show the puppy how to shred. I would have screamed at her if I were not so incredibly dumbfounded. Her patience showing the puppy how to do this was nothing short of amazing and when he had mastered the trait to her satisfaction she moved her torn papers closer to his pen (using her snout so we would not notice, as humans are dumb...) and moved away. I was just out of sight and I'm sure she did not notice me or the lesson would have never occured. Needless to say I now have a destructo monster who thinks tearing up paper is fun and a desired behavior. He has also learned several other less than postive habits that can only come from one source. I will cure him of that but Xena no longer has unobserved access near him....
unreal ????

Not to laugh at your frustration...but that gave me a chuckle this morning...thanks.

Sometimes I think the TRD is a step ahead of your garden variety canine in the smarts category.

So sorry Serge, beautiful pup. This behavior I call "puppycide". The Min Pin next door tried to get Ginger to "eat" the Mini Rat Terrier pup buy digging under the chain link fence and when the Rattie tried helping THE MIN PIN pushed the pup under!!! If I hadn't seen it I would not have believed it. Ginger just licked the pup. Too little to hurt. DOGS!!!
Ginger has a "Daddy take me for a walk routine" you would not believe. Frank usually gives in so that reinforces it.
