Wesley's overall yearly SITREP as of Boxing Day 2007:
- RTA'd from Baghdad end of March 07. I was looking forward to slowing down with the house paid off, and unwinding after a 7 month deployment to Iraq, and a total of 11 months away from home
- 6 days later, Nancy pulls the pin, and I was on my own. Not a great thing to come back to, but thats life. I still feel rather let down by her, but in her own mind, she thought I was on a middle eastern holiday. She said I always sounded so happy on the phone, so it could not be that bad over there. If she only knew the reality of it all, but she can't comprehend it for a second, and I'll live with the trauma of that festering boil on the asshole of the earth for the rest of my days. And life rolls on.
- April, on leave, had a shit time readjusting to single life
- May, the field at Shoalwater Bay - Oh joy! Had the worst Exercise in my carreer
- Jun, at the Regiment, garrison routine
- Jul, knee surgery from my Baghdad mishap. Ultra uncomfortable time
- Aug/Sep, post surg recovery, with some much needed time off
- Oct, working back at the Regiment, but med restricted duties
- Nov, garrison routine, working out final separation agreement with Nancy. Bought a Jap Type 99 short rifle with monopod and cleaning rod, nice! Also bought a WW1 German Gew 98, Simson & Co 1916, again nice.
- Dec, passed med boards, BFA, shot AIRN, dental,a dn now deployable again. A quiet Christmas, on duty as DO til 02 Jan, about to enter a $267,000 debt, as I bought her share out, so I am now financially fucked, ha!
- Jan 08, back to workas per normal, PMR'd with my knee, but taking it easy. About to buy a Russian captured Kar98K,a dn thats it for the guns. I just wanted a few toys to have, as I never bought anything from my deployment money, as I ended up paying th house off, but no look where I am.
Collecting and enjoying the Brisbane and Toowoomba gunshows. Aside from my passion for these new additions to my gunsafe mentioned above, I am still always on the hunt for interesting bayonets. I managed to bring 20 back from Iraq, along with other fun stuff, but I had to leave my aquired VZ61 behind. It went to good awaiting sweaty hands.
I will get some long awaited pics up soonest, but will have to pick through them as as some can't be postged for OPSEC reasons, as the mission is ongoing still.
Those bayonets were mainly AKM Type 1 and Type 2, of all nationalities, but my best score was an Iranian G3 bayonet, with Iranian issue desert tan frog, and the soldier's name on the back of it. its a keep, a wickedly long 10 inch double edged blade, similar to that used by Turkey.
Scored some one of a kind stuff, like Baath party medalions, and a presentaion holster for the BHP, and an Iraqi old regime officers belt. Plus other fun things to keep as good bringbacks.
Socially, been on the odd date. I have possession of both Siamese cats, so they keep me company.
Thats about it for now.
Oh ya, been making good friends with jack D, adn Jim B too
Cheers from Bribie Island,
Wes
