Visitors to this site will notice that I have a particular affection for the United States Marine Corps. This is not as strange is it might appear on the surface, because sailors with experience in the amphibious Navy (or " 'Gator Navy") have a symbiotic relationship with the Marines. It's our job to get the Marines where they are needed, and then to support them once they are engaged. Marines are loyal to their friends and fierce to their enemies.
It happens that a Reuters reporter was interviewing a USMC scout-sniper team in Ramadi, Iraq. The reporter asked the Marine sniper-in-charge what he felt as he looked through his rifle scope and methodically picked-off enemy insurgents. The Marine sergeant's reply was classic: "Recoil."
I'm sure the poor journalist from Reuters must've gotten is knickers in a twist after such an honest, though chilling response. Fortunately, the sniper team had a hospital corpsman assigned to them and he was on hand to render aid in the event the reporter's sensibilities were overwhelmed.
You've just gotta love Marines!
