Just a head's up for those of us with cable or satellite TV that get AMC (American Movie Classics). Tonight, 8pm EDT/7pm CDT, AMC will rebroadcast "The Great Raid." This is the story of the Cabanatuan Prison Camp raid in the Philippines during the last week of January 1945.
The good guys: 120 men of the U.S. Army 6th Ranger Battalion, Alamo scouts and Filippino guerillas.
The bad guys: 250 Imperial Japanese Army troops in the camp, a sadistic camp commandant, 1,000 Japanese troops nearby, and 10,000 in the area.
The object: Rescue over 500 survivors of the Bataan Death March before the Japanese can carry out the orders of the Imperial General Staff to murder all of the inmates.
The problem: Infiltrate 30 miles behind the Japanese lines, creep up on the camp without being seen, wipe out the Japanese garrison and prevent reinforcements from nearby, evacuate all 500 sick, weakened, and invalided pisoners back 30 miles through Japanese lines that are now alerted and hunting for you.
If you miss tonight's showing, AMC will repeat it again. Repeats:
Monday Oct 01 at 5PM | 4C; Thursday Oct 18 at 5PM | 4C; and Friday Oct 19 at 12:30PM | 11:30C.
