When I see such a story, it puts a smile on my face. Just goes to show you where our society is headed.
Fortunately for him, his old age any physical state should play in his favour. If it would have been a younger fit person, the scales would have probably turned the other way.

To break and enter is a crime worth punishment. But to enter another persons home and kill. There is no place for that kind of behaviour, NONE. I have a wife and three small children. Believe me, the guy would be stopped in his tracks. If he'd be unarmed, i'd tell him to get out of the house. He'd have the option to back out. But if he'd be armed, there would be no question in my mind. I'D RATHER BE JUDGED BY 12 THAN CARRIED BY SIX. I've been to Bosnia, Africa and Afghanistan. There is no way in hell, that some local, worthless scumbag would endanger my family.
Here, in Canada our judicial system is a bad joke. And it's getting worse everyday. Where else can someone live off crime during the summer months and not get picked up. And then as winter approaches, ensure that they get nabbed so that they can spend the winter months in jail with a roof over their heads and three meals a day. Trust me, I know this for a fact. Some of the guys I grew up with are into this lifestyle. And I resent them for it. Some of the money I pay in taxes keeps them at their old habits.
I'll probably open a can of worms on this one. But here it goes. LETS BRING BACK THE DEATH PENALTY IN CANADA. For those that are against it, give the next few lines a lookover and then ponder over it again.
For those that commit murder and have witnesses on hand to provide testimony,there should be no clemency. For those that have no witnesses on hand and are tried with circumstancial evidence, their must be a fair trial. (Same as there is now). The person is considered innocent until overwhelming evidence confirms the contrary .
Look at the ages of some of the folks committing murder today. They are getting younger and younger. Kids for crying out loud. And they are getting away with it. THERE IS NOTHING FOR THEM TO FEAR. How bad can reform scool be ? Jail, it's a joke. I'll be out soon.
Why the hell should we keep these kind of people alive ? Is there any way to reform them ? Really ?
It's when I hear of serial killers making plea bargains to show where they've buried or diposed of the bodies. WHAT. Is this for real ? Come on people, wake up !!!!!!! Making deals ?
Taxpayers have to pay over $70,000 to keep 1 inmate in jail for a year. And when the vast majority are released, do they become productive citizens ? Some do. But unfortunaetly many don't. There is no deterrent. The vast majority of today's laws are a joke.
There is a statement out there: Crime doesn't pay. Yeah right. The message isn't getting through out there. And unfortunately things aren't going to get any better unless things change.
Thats my five cents for the day.
