I like that little over and under, you know? I’m not bad with it.�?/P>
But we have a problem with Joe Biden’s record on protecting the rights of gun ownership in this country. I believe he has one of the worst ratings when it comes to protecting the rights of gun owners. He also has a past history of anti gun legislation and statements. Here is Joe Biden on legislation that would ban the sale of military style weapons:

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson gave a standard answer about the need to improve screening of gun applicants. But Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. of Delaware, who said that he sponsored an assault weapons ban, was not so sanguine.

Townsend called the Biden response “kind of off-kilter,�?adding: “I think he hurt himself. A lot of people who are out there said, ‘We are all gun owners. He lost my vote.�?�?/P>
Townsend picked up his interest in guns from his father. He said he used the rifle for target practice and to hunt for coyotes on Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Townsend uses a 10- or 20-round clip, saying that a 100-round clip is too expensive.

Again you have to love how Joe Biden has to add, “I’m being serious�?
OK, we admit that was a rare moment when Joe Biden was funny. Although we are not sure that Biden or anyone should be judging who is mentally stable enough to own a gun.

Biden introduced an “assault weapons�?ban in Congress five years before the Clinton gun and magazine ban was imposed. In 1989, Biden’s Senate Bill 1970 proposed to ban the Colt AR-15 and eight similar firearms as “assault weapons,�?and authorize the Secretary of the Treasury (in reality, BATF) and the Attorney General to recommend to Congress any other firearms, regardless of type, to be banned as “additional assault weapons.�?/P>
Biden was instrumental in the passage of the 1994 Clinton gun and magazine ban. Biden reiterated his support for the ban—and, in fact, took credit for authoring it—in response to a question at the CNN & YouTube debate earlier this year. Biden voted for the ban on a stand-alone vote in 1993, and voted to extend the ban in 2004 as an amendment to the “Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act.�?He also included a renewal of the ban in his crime bill last year, along with gun show restrictions.
Joe Biden’s S. 2237 proposes to renew the Clinton ban on roughly 200 makes and models of semi-automatic rifles, shotguns, and handguns on the basis of things like the shape of their grips, and on ammunition magazines that hold more than 10 rounds, regardless of the kind of firearm in which they are used.
Biden voted against the law that prohibits lawsuits designed to bankrupt law-abiding firearm manufacturers and dealers. He also refused to sign the Congressional brief in Heller, and voted to confirm only one of the five justices who ruled in favor of the Second Amendment in Heller, yet he voted to confirm all four justices who voted against the Second Amendment in that case.
Simply put, Biden and Obama may very well be the most anti gun candidates this country has ever seen.

But this is not new. Mr. Obama has a long history of supporting city gun bans. The Associated Press described his 2004 vote on a gun control bill: “He also opposed letting people use a self-defense argument if charged with violating local handgun bans by using weapons in their homes. The bill was a reaction to a Chicago-area man who, after shooting an intruder, was charged with a handgun violation.�?/P>
A candidate questionnaire shows that Mr. Obama supported a ban on handguns in 1996. In 1998, he backed a ban on the sale of all semiautomatic guns (a ban that would encompass the vast majority of guns sold in the U.S.) In 2004, he advocated banning gun sales within five miles of a school or park (essentially a ban on all guns sold in almost all the states). Possibly, even more importantly, he served on the board of the Joyce Foundation, probably the largest private funder of anti-gun and pro-ban groups and research in the country.
The Obama campaign “flatly denied�?the 1996 statement supporting a ban on handguns, blaming it instead on a staffer from his state senate race who they said had incorrectly filled out the candidate questionnaire. But the Politico obtained a copy of the statement and found Mr. Obama’s own handwritten notes on it indicating that he had personally checked and corrected answers.
His newfound support for gun ownership raises serious questions; not only where he stands on the gun issue, but also how trustworthy he is.
