Over here everything is far apart.  I work 23 miles from home and shop 15 miles away.  My favorite places to visit are Kinzu or Ripley Beach..both about 40 miles away!  So gasoline is a huge expense.

When it was at it's highest it was costing $45 to fill my wee 11 gallon tank.  Now it's down quite alot since early summer and last night I paid $3.09 in Warren, PA ..wow..funny how $3.09 can sound so cheap !!

Anyway..I'm combining trips, making sure to do all my errands in one trip and plan better..So how are YOU coping??

Moving to Ripley has reduced our expenditures quite a bit, so things being what they are with gas prices and all, I'm glad for the lower cost of living.  But, having said that, Bob has lost over 30% of his retirement plan since May of this year. That hurts.  And not being able to sell our house in Minnesota has taken its toll - one of the biggest reasons I went back to work. I have faith things will turn around, but not as quickly as I'd like. I was hoping for another trip to England next year, but I think that's on indefinate hold for now. I'm still saving my pennies (and quarters, dimes and nickels) for the day I can afford to see my British friends again.  Till then, "stiff upper lip," and all that!

I've thought alot about your situation Robyn...it's a story being told all over the country and the world....but I wish you the best in trying to sort this out because I know it's going to get worse before it gets better.

The price of gas has been dropping and for the first time in months it's in the $2 range..well I mean $2.97 which means it cost me $26 to fill up instead of $44.  That difference made me elated until I heard on TV that the oil companies are all aflutter wanting to find a way to get the price back up.  They want to cut back on production so that supply will be down.  However the cost of a barrel of oil has gone from $140 to $67 so what's their problem?? I wish someone in congress would have the balls to do a serious investigation on BIG OIL and help the citizens out a little.

Again, the price of gasoline has gone down. My sister who lives in Pennsylvania paid $1.99 yesterday. that's just amazing to me. They said on the radio that this is BAD news, because it signifies our weak economy. I'm sorry, but for us 'little people' this very good news.. my economy depends on saving money everywhere I can.

That's what this move is all about. I will be in a different district and my heating bills will cost far less, plus the electric is a lower rater than Niagara Mohawk. I'll also be a little bit closer to work which will save a little bit more. I've turned off my tv cable. There's a savings of $57. I thought I'd go nuts with that one but we're watching everything we liked online..and without commercials.

In Feb my car is paid off..there will be another $200/month. Ah..better days are coming!!

Here's Candy...Looking around to see where else I can cut.

With Christmas nearly here, and me with no Christmas bonus from a troubled employer....I'm finding that I have many things in my home to use as gifts.  Alot of what I treasure...I've already designated to my girls for when I'm gone.  However, I've decided there's no time like the present...to make these treasures PRESENTS...so Christmas will be rich this year, with the joy of giving.  I might not spend a dime, but will have a great Christmas even so.

I'm also going to benefit from having moved.  In fact, this new home has a higher rent than the place I left, but the electric will be lower as will the heating so I will be dollars ahead even with the higher rent.

But the greater benefit of this (as you know, painful...) move is that it will make my life better, deeper and more precious.  I did love my old home.  It saved me from a demon of a landlord where I lived when we all first met.  But there was no outside life for me and my soul was starving for what that meant.  I could not garden, I could not build bon-fires and I could not have parties or picnics outside.  I am definately a country girl, and love to live outside in the summer.  My life will be so enhanced as I come to blend with the new home.  I think as we make cut backs, we need to be careful not to forget our quality of life..keeping what's important in perspective.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL, MY FRIENDS !!!

I know i am gone a lot but as you all know I have had a lot to come to terms with..
I got the results of my latest brain scan and the stroke I had in August has done a bit of damage in that i can no longer count and do sums ..(Try telling that to the bank manager)..I am learning to get to frips with it only things take so much longer to do...

I have had to pull Robert out of the college he was in ....The standards had dropped to the point that my boy was suffering from neglect and it all came to a head when I payed a surprise visit and coukd not believe the way he was being treated ...he is too gentle a soul to suffer like that.so now I have him home with me and all the forward planning for his future went out the window....

The B******s were charging £800 a week for bread and cheese and when i got there he was fighting for a peice of bread...I thought this kind of thing went out with the Dickensian era....

I am so upset ...but we will get there ...

I am sruggling through all the murk of Care coomisions and Socail workers ....I understand now how some kids slip though the net ,these Social Workers dont really give a dam until the S**t hits the fan and then they all run around like headless chickens...

Sorry..just needed to have a rant....keep Robert in your prayers as he has a long road to go to get over this...

I am so lucky to have lovely friends around me who help to make this bearable..

Oh Bobbie!
I, personally, had no idea you were going through all this! I know that when the going gets tough we all retreat and not tell a soul what's going on. I am so glad that you have finally come though and told us - now we can help!

Poor Robert, what on earth must he have been going through? Like you say, he is such a kindly soul. Unfortunately, this is the society of todays world. Good thing you made a surprise visit!
I agree with you, social workers couldn't care a toss until they get found out and then it's all hell let lose! I hope you will be writing a strongly worded letter to whoever is responsible!

Yes, we are all here for you Snow, and yes, you and Robert will get through this.

Take care of you both - Kaz
