I'm still using the old PP, because I was waiting on my new computer before I installed P3 (memory issues with the old puter).  Well, now I have the new computer complete with Vista, and I am trying to install PP and get all my files transferred over from my old computer.  THEN I'll worry about installing P3 and transferring over to that (clear as mud?).

My question is that I'm having trouble getting PP to install on my new Vista computer.  I installed it once, and could get it to open, but couldn't get it to "Restore from backup" off my flash drive to get my info on there from the other machine.  So, I uninstalled it, reinstalled it, and now it won't open at all.  I'm in the middle of remodeling/reorganizing my office and don't really want to sit on the phone forever with Tech Support right now.  Anybody have any ideas that might help the situation?

Teresa,  if you right click on the PP icon that should bring up a list of things. At the bottom is properties, click on that and then you get a screen that has  a bunch of tabs on the top. Click on compatability and then you should be able to check run this progam in compatability with windows XP. That might help, now I always get a prompt from vista asking me if I really want to run this progam everytime I open it. I don't get it with P3, but I still am playing around and I haven't completely switched over yet. Hope that helps.

I had the same problem several weeks ago and had to have the assistance of Tech Support.  Completely uninstall PP again.  Download PP from CC instead of using the CD.  The guarantees that you are installing the most recent version.  Once installed, do NOT open PP yet.

Go to your desktop & right click on the PP icon.
Click on Properties
Click on the Compatibilty tab
Check "Run this program in Compatibilty mode for"
Select Windows XP (Service PAck 2) from dropdown
On Priviledge level, Check "Run this program as Administrator"
Click "Apply" and "OK"

If you open PP before performing those steps, you will have to uninstall it and reinstall it again.

I can vouch that those are the right steps...been there, done that! It's the compatilibility mode....you'll be checking all programs for that with Vista...

It worked!  You guys are the best!  Your instructions were perfect!  PP opened, I was able to restore from backup and all of my shows and NC orders are there!  Yay!

Will I have to do this same thing when I install P3 soon?  Oh, and we should probably save this over in the How To section.  I'm not sure exactly how to do that, but I know I'm not the only one who will be asking this question!

Thank you all again, so VERY MUCH!!!

I usually just right click on the icon and open it by going to 'run as administrator' because apparently that's a big thing with Vista...having administrator rights or something.

That is funny to hear everyone say that, I haven't had a single problem (knock on wood) with Vista. It seems to be compatable with everything I use. I guess I got lucky.

Ironically, I did not have any problems for about 6 weeks.  When I I tried to submit my last show, I kept getting an error message.  I had been downloading the updates (so I thought) but the error indicated that I couldn't send my show because I didn't have the most recent product update.  I tried downloading it several times before making that dreaded call. I called Tech Support and was on the phone troubleshooting for about an hour.  Eventually, I had to uninstall PP altogether & reinstall it.  The tech recommended downloading it from CC so that I would have the most recent version.  I jumped ahead of him once it was installed and opened PP to see if the new install fixed the problem.  That's when he told me, "Don't open PP yet."  When I told him I already had, I had to uninstall & then reinstall again.  I had to perform the "admin" steps before opening the program.  For some reason, that was real important.  I haven't had any other issues since then.
